Any recs? I usually use those little floss picks. Dentist is encouraging me to use the little brushes but I find them fiddly.

Yes, I’ve got a Philips water flosser that I’ve had for years. It’s brilliant, so easy to use and v effective.

splatmouse · 26/03/2024 10:38

I have the Phillips one. Can't really be arsed to use it though. The novelty wore off very quickly. I also feel like that about my electric toothbrush too, though. I reckon I'm in the minority, most people rave about them.

What I find miles better is my metal toothpick. Gets out gunk I didn't even know was in there!

Edited because I originally thought it was Oral B. Goes to show how much use it gets!

I tried one.

It was too powerful for me. My DD uses it now.

I love mine and use it every day. It's a generic one from Amazon. Much easier than fiddly floss or teeny brushes. Tip; use warm water and don't start the flosser until it's in your mouth, lean over the sink while using and don't attempt to look in the mirror while flossing.

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/03/2024 11:41

Last week the hygienist told me she doesn’t recommend them.

Did she say why not?

tass1960 · 26/03/2024 11:44

Generic Amazon one here - use warm water and also put mouthwash in it - I use it most days

Justploddingonandon · 26/03/2024 11:45

I have one. No idea if it generally works better than floss or the tiny brushes, but it does for me as I actually use it as it's a lot easier.

KirstenBlest · 26/03/2024 11:46

yes. It's still in the box. Blush

stormonasummerseve · 26/03/2024 11:46

I have fixed upper and lower retainers behind my teeth so I think this is something I need to look into tbf

dreadisabaddog · 26/03/2024 11:48

My dentist told me the interdental toothbrushes are much better and she only recommends the water flosser for older people with less dexterity

Killerqueenie · 26/03/2024 11:50

I bought one last week and I'm too scared to use it because of the force that the water comes out at 😅 I have severe gum disease caused by pregnancy and I'm scared it will damage my gums more. I didn't realise the water came out so forcefully. When I turned it on the water hit the wall at the other side of the bathroom 😂

remotelostagain · 26/03/2024 11:51

Yes, a Phillips one. Brilliant for sticky plaque. I use those Tepe dental sticks that you push through the gaps but instead of then also using the dental floss I use the water flosser.

Learn to use it without the water first, look in a mirror and get a feel for going around the gums and along the tooth (watch some youtube videos) then do it with water and with your mouth closed facing downward into the sink, not upright otherwise you will get soaked. Mine allows you to turn the head rather than twisting your wrist into awkward positions.

SirChenjins · 26/03/2024 11:52

I do - never use it though, I found it too much of a messy faff. I just use my sonic toothbrush and floss instead.

TheFlis · 26/03/2024 11:54

I have the Philips Sonicare one and it’s brilliant, and even more effective if you use mouthwash in it instead of water.

OnlyLoveCanBreakYourHeart · 26/03/2024 11:54

I don't get on with floss or interdental brushes at all. Following with interest.

I agree the interdental ones are better than floss. I have to use both, plaque can build up between teeth especially on the back of the bottom front teeth where salvia sits all the time. Interdental for the bottom of the teeth where they meet the gum, the water flosser instead of using dental floss.

twohooverwannabe · 26/03/2024 11:57

It’s the only kind of flossing I can do. I cannot seem to get anything between my teeth. Even the smallest floss/brushes. I have a bit of a phobia of flossing actually.

LightSpeeds · 26/03/2024 11:58

I've got a Panasonic EW1311, which is good.

I would NOT be without one now. Just try it after thoroughly brushing your teeth and see how much food comes out (not to mention the plaque that's still between your teeth despite brushing).

NC03 · 26/03/2024 12:02

I have a cheap one, this

A word of warning, i got a water flosser and for the first time in nearly 15 years i needed to have my brace re-glued. Cost me £300 as i couldnt go back to the original place so i have gone back to just brushes!

Coldupnorth87 · 26/03/2024 12:05

Mine's in a cupboard somewhere...

FlowerBarrow · 26/03/2024 12:05

Hygienist also told me there’s no need for it if you’re using the small brushes (not sure of their view on water pic if you’re not using the brushes?)

KirstenBlest · 26/03/2024 12:10

My dentist recommended using a water flosser. I do use dental sticks and floss.
I've no idea why I never even opened the box.

WaltzingWaters · 26/03/2024 12:16

My dentist recommended them as well as but not instead of regular flossing. He said using them is good but it shouldn’t be as a substitute.
