Who else can't wait for Easter weekend?

I can't wait for a four day break and two shorter weeks. Countdown is on, just four working days to get out the way 🤪

A full week off for me. Biggest perk of working in a university.

DrunkTinkerbell40s · 25/03/2024 07:15

Me!! Easter weekend is always my favourite one of the year! Even over Christmas!

  1. There's relatively little planning involved... buy some choc eggs and ingredients for a roast and you're done whereas Christmas you plan and prep for aggges,
  2. The weather is usually getting a bit better, spring has sprung.
  3. Family time or at least time with friends.
  4. It's always a 4 day weekend.
  5. Chocolate!
Thegrassneedsmowing · 25/03/2024 07:24

Me! DD home from uni. She'll be working and seeing friends but promises to fit me in! Seeing family for a meal. We've got decorating planned for if it's raining, gardening for if it's dry and Easter eggs for all weathers😊

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/03/2024 07:38

To be honest I find Easter a bit wearing compared to a lot of people, but then I suppose we've all got a cross to bear.

Dewdilly · 25/03/2024 07:40

Not me, sadly. I’m at work all four days.

BlazesBoylansHat · 25/03/2024 07:43

I'm glad to have 4 days off work (& 2 shorter weeks) but it's an absolute non-event for me to be honest. I'll buy teen dc an egg but dh & I don't bother.

I'll cook some sort of a nice dinner on Easter Sunday. No idea what yet.

I work in a uni. Don't you just have to book your leave like anyone else? The students are off for two weeks. It's not automatic for staff.

I have also booked a week off though. I'm knackered. Enjoy your break everyone who has one.

daffodilandtulip · 25/03/2024 07:48

I've got the full week off after too. First time since Christmas and I can't wait!

Easter closure is always 2 or 3 days over and above the bank holidays. Far shorter than the student holiday still bit we are always closed from 5pm on Wednesday of Holy Week till 9am on the Tuesday or Wednesday of Easter week. The 2 or 3 days depends on when Christmas falls and how many days additional to the bank holidays we've had then.

So this year we get the full week, Thursday to Wednesday inclusive. All separate from annual leave.

itsgettingweird · 25/03/2024 07:53

I can't deny the 4 day working week is a bonus.

But the rest - meh!

I'm at a meet this weekend helping and ds is still training. Then we are away for a week because he's competing. So I've actually lost time off because I'm doing more 😂

LaChatte · 25/03/2024 07:56

I live in France and happen to be coming the England next weekend, does anyone know if shops in a smallish town will be open?

LaChatte · 25/03/2024 07:57

(We only Monday as a bank holiday).

reluctantbrit · 25/03/2024 07:57

March month end is always chaos at work so normally I would just relax, sleep in and enjoy the days off.

But we will be visiting potential uni cities for DD and have to make plan to sort out my mum's flat after moving to a care home.

So, there will be chocolate and a roast but that's it this year.

2chocolateoranges · 25/03/2024 07:58

I love a 4 day working week, wish every week was one!

On a holiday weekend dh and I also like a wee Sunday afternoon at the pub knowing we have a long lie on the Monday… bliss!

MonsteraMama · 25/03/2024 07:58

I've booked two days leave either end so I get a big break, I'm so bloody excited! Two days to get through and I'm freeeee!

And it's really starting to feel like spring outside at the moment which is an added bonus. I love Easter, underrated holiday!

UtterlyOtterly · 25/03/2024 08:00

Yes, I love it. I am not in the least bit religious so can cheerfully ignore the Jesus stuff and make lots of plans with family and friends.

I run my own business so can give myself whatever time off is convenient but it's good to know my friends have free time too.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 25/03/2024 08:02

I love it. The things I feel pressured by at Christmas are an absolute joy at Easter mainly because of the comparatively micro scale ... I loved making a small Easter display, planning clues for an egg hunt and working out where we will walk and what we will cook on Easter Sunday.

NashvilleQueen · 25/03/2024 08:03

I do prefer Christmas (the tree wins out) @DrunkTinkerbell40s but I hear you about the positives of Easter. Id add to your list:

You can usually get a long break without having to take much annual leave

And

There's no obligations to do anything with anyone. If you want to stay at home eating chocolate that's fine. No one forces you into weeks of social events on the back of it.

I would expect everything to be shut on Easter Sunday. Possibly reduced times on the Fri/Sat/Mon.

Ahh the tree is a negative for me Grin
I love it when it's up but honestly the putting up and taking down....!

Yearendjoy · 25/03/2024 08:14

Easter is dull to me. Nothing special about it. I'm looking forward to the big Man C v Arsenal match Easter day though. That's the highlight of this Easter for me.

Nice to have you on here, Jesus! Name change fail? 😉

Beezknees · 25/03/2024 08:28

Me!

I booked half a day off work on Thursday so I'm finishing at 1. Got a night out on Friday with some work people. 4 days off, bliss. DS is 16 so we don't make a big hoo ha about Easter any more but I've got him an egg, there's a local company that makes creme egg brownies that I will treat myself too, yum.
