Over the years we have only been able to get a second hand washer.

We are now in the position to buy a brand new one.
Reading about all these different programmes is mind boggling.
There are 3 adults.
Can anyone advise which make and model.
Do we need to spend a lot of money on one.
Thanks for your help

Samsung Eco bubble. Ours is 6 years old and still going strong.

Just bought a new LG direct drive machine, to replace the 20 year old previous model. 20 year old model cost £329, so we definitely got our moneys worth. New model purchased from AO.com (they have videos of how the machines work and a great many useful reviews), as by far the best price when I pressed the button to purchase and they price match, which we tested within two days of purchase, as one store had a special offer and they refunded the money whilst I was on the phone!!

We bought a cheap as chips Hoover washing machine in 2011. It has been great and is still going strong. It's a little small for our needs nowadays (I think 6 or 7kg), I think I'll get a bigger version next time.

Just checked old emails and we got ours in May 2015! So 9 years old and still like new. I got the ick with the cycle end tune after 2-3 years though!

Go Bosch!
I bought a second hand kitchen which came with a Bosch washing machine. It sits in the laundry room next to a perfectly functioning, much newer, hotpoint. The Bosch gets used preferentially as it has half the volume.: so much quieter. We couldn't believe the difference!

I muted ours! It goes on for SO FUCKING LONG too! Thank god it's mutable as it's the only thing that annoys me about it. The add wash door flap thing is a lifesaver for the odd stray sock too!

Seconded (or fifthed!). Great machine.

NCForQuestions · 24/03/2024 16:18

We bought a Bosch 6yrs ago and it's just died.

So the new machine is a 9kg Samsung from John Lewis, arrives Tuesday! It'll take up to 55 shirts at a time apparently 🤷🏼‍♀️

It's £400. I also get 7% cashback from my credit card company and 3% from Quidco, so that's a nice few bob as well!

You can turn it off on the new ones and it'll be turned off the first day it arrives here! 😂

Samsung eco bubble

TragicMuse · 24/03/2024 16:20

I can tell you that I wish mine had a short 15-20 minute wash and a half-load function.

Make sure you have those...

Mytholmroyd · 24/03/2024 16:21

Just be careful getting a 'smart' one - I have seen people reporting that they are using GB of data over their WiFi and don't know how to stop it and have no idea why. I cannot verify as we don't have one and probably never would but I would do some research on it before buying one.

Check out Which for their recommendations?

Mytholmroyd · 24/03/2024 16:33

From Which - which companies offer extended security support and updates (because they can represent a backdoor to your internet etc) for smart appliances and for how long.

Bosch

Catnuzzle · 24/03/2024 16:46

Haier. Love mine. It's integrated but is so pretty I wish it wasn't hidden!

Ariela · 24/03/2024 16:56

Miele. Lowest priced of the range with a good score on Which for performance. might well be the ONLY new machine you'll buy (25 years and counting......)

Works out far, far more economical than other brands, never seen an engineer.

Bosch

I've always been a bit of a Bosch fan, built in oven, induction hob, extractor, built in microwave are all Bosch. I bought my oven in 2009, replaced my kitchen in 2012 and kept the oven and it is still in good order today.

But have just replaced my 9 year old Siemens (owned by Bosch) dishwasher and although the machine designs are practically identical to the 9 year old model, everything about it is cheap and tacky compared to Siemens model. Trays are lighter and feel fragile, wheels are noisy and not as smooth, door is not as weighted, buttons feel cheap, I took the filter out to look at and it is also cheap and tacky. Even the sticky up bits I put glasses on are shorter so glasses fall over when putting the not as smooth drawer back in.

We bought online so didn't see before buying and I wouldn't have bought if I had. I wish I had kept the old one and got the heat unit replaced instead. Will teach me to take a trip to Currys to check out any appliances before buying online instead.

Roselilly36 · 24/03/2024 17:04

I agree go Bosch, my machine is washer/dryer cost £1000 but it was worth it, with regard to performance, never had a washer/dryer before, thought I was happy to pay the price that I would usually pay for the two separate units.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 24/03/2024 17:10

Mid range Bosch. You don't need tens of programmes cos how many do people actually use? Probably 4 or 5 at the very Max. My appliance engineer always says mid range Bosch (no he doesn't sell them) or a Miele if you have the money (we don't!).

All our appliances are Bosch except our brand new tumble dryer and I went on a Which recommendation of an AEG Heat Pump one. Only had it 2 months and it has been fab so far.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 24/03/2024 17:11

Also what is your budget? I can have a look on which for you.

appyaug · 24/03/2024 17:18

Miele. Still going strong after 24 years. I'm dreading it breaking down though tbf it shows no signs of doing so. I'd definitely buy another.

fridaynightdinner12346 · 24/03/2024 17:32

This thread is perfect timing for me! Thank you! Ordering a new machine in next few days and baffled by all the choice

NoEffingWay · 24/03/2024 18:26

I would not recommend a samsung eco-bubble. The old ones were great but the newer ones have motherboards which are prone to throwing out error messages.

They also refused to fix it because I only had the order email and not the VAT invoice and the washing machine---- so I was left with a broken machine that was only 2 years old and a pathetic response to my pleas for help.

I will never buy or recommend a Samsung ever again.
