I know, I know.

Just a steer please so I can ask my medics with proper degrees…

53, on mirena and evoral patches of 75mg

Had private MOT via work in January and they identified slightly raised systolic BP but very very high HDL. (That’s the good one) Total cholesterol and ratio was fine. Normal CA125, everything else with the exception of calcium (slightly low) was normal. Normal iron study, normal creatinine etc.

About a stone overweight, otherwise fit and healthy.

And my blood pressure is suddenly ginormous. Highest has been 168/122 and I’m averaging around 145/100. Got a constant dull ache on left side below ribs, on a scale of 1-10 it’s about a 4. I have no notion where this has come from. I’m exhausted, I can hear whooshing in my ears, throbbing under my chin and I feel like I might be sick although I’ve only vomited once. Constant headache, like a tiredness one but it never goes.

WtF? Ideas welcome.

Not sure what a single channel ecg is but the constant chest discomfort, whoosing, headache might be a sign of something, the doctors can scan the arteries and veins in your neck,

soupfiend · 24/03/2024 15:41

What were the actual results of the thyroid, folate and b12?

Having high HDL is not good. Even though it is 'good' cholesterol and can cause high BP

Have they checked out your thyroid and liver?

SecretDoor · 24/03/2024 15:45

ACE inhibitors such as ramipril, take a few weeks to work as you have to use up the already circulating chemicals. They block your adrenals producing more

My friend has high BP and tinnitus, she is lovely but has some difficulty in her life. It’s of her own making but she has always been a bit self destructive when it comes to men, that’s her main issue mental health wise. She is what my Mother would call highly strung as a person. She does have some issues with her immunity and has scerladerma. I will say she never bloody sits down and she has some sort of guilt ridden work ethic going on. She couldn’t rest if she thought her skirting boards were dusty or anything out of place. I suppose what I’m saying is she really pressurises herself.

Your HDL isn't VERY high

It's raised but not excessively

soupfiend · 24/03/2024 15:51

I think there are some people that might suggest your folate, b12 and ferritin is a bit low, did they do T3 and T4 for thyroid?

Bestyearever2024 · 24/03/2024 15:51

How much exercise do you do?

How much alcohol do you drink?

What sort of diet do you eat?

Don’t know - this is all I got. On the face of it the results are not particularly concerning. And yet I’ve gone hypertensive for no good reason!

I do a short workout with weights every morning and then a walk with the dogs for half an hour most days plus running about after the kids.

Diet is all from scratch pretty much - thank you v good chef DP. Glass of red most evenings. No recreational drugs. Very little excitement. I have a favorite ring on the hob and Saturday night thrill is popping to Waitrose to get the yellow sticker reductions.

It sounds like side effects from your hypertension

I’m pleased to report I’m a bit of a slattern and have no problem with dusty skirting boards.

That’s what I think - but what is causing the hypertension and nagging ache in my innards?

I don't know why your BP is high but natural methods of reducing BP which have worked for me are:

Out of breath exercise (really puffing) for 30 mins a day

No alcohol

Mediterranean diet

Olive leaf extract tablets

And obviously your BP tablets (as prescribed)

Itisnearlyspring · 24/03/2024 15:59

Your urea looks low. Are you on a low protein diet? If not has your liver been checked for problems?

No quite high protein relatively. Don’t think I’ve had my liver looked at.

How much water do you drink? Upping your water could help your liver

No theres nothing 'wrong' with your results, but I had some strange thyroid results myself and on the surface they are 'in range' as they say, but I went on a thyroid forum and people were giving advice that you have to look at the whole pattern of results to see if anything seems amiss. And at the lower end of the range, it might be having an impact on you despite being 'ok'

I recall having that funny whoosing tinnitis and reading that it was connected to folate and when I went on folate supplements (because mine was low at the time) it got better

Also what I was told is that underactive thyroid can cause high cholesterol (although you dont have high cholesterol) but not sure about BP

BP can sometimes just be genetic though, might be they just need to medicate you better

FawnFrenchieMum · 24/03/2024 16:05

No advice but going through similar.

Had headaches pretty much since Christmas. They are describing them as tension type headaches but getting no better. BP also been raised since around the same time averaging around 145/95. Started on 2.5mg ramipril four weeks ago, increased to 5mg last week but no improvement yet.
A few days ago started with UTI like symptoms and then ended up in a&e last night in absolute agony with my lower back left hand side. They believe it’s an infection and kidney stone.
I’m due to go for thyroid tests and ECG tomorrow.
I just feel crap permanently. Don’t remember the last time I felt properly well.

What is your weight like? Non alcoholic fatty liver?
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/non-alcoholic-fatty-liver-disease/

I'd agree with this ^ as a possibility

I'm surprised there's no liver test results on your bloods
