Flowers a notch up from Waitrose

DS’s form tutor has been off sick for a a few weeks and someone else has stepped up to cover for the half hour before lessons begin and again for ten minutes post-lunch, not to mention taking on responsibility for any pastoral issues that arise.

We’ve had a parental whip-round to get her some flowers as a thank you next week and have £30. The best ones I’ve seen in our local (smallish) Waitrose cost £18, & they look very nice, but not that large. The local florist starts bouquets at £35 but she apologetically explained to me that I would not get much for that, and that her ‘proper’ bouquets start at £50, which is a fair step up from the money we have collected.

I could get her some chocs with the remaining £12, but seeing as sugar is the new smoking I’m not sure how welcome they would be.

Could I have some suggestions please?

Marks and Spencer? Or find an independent local florist; they can do something really beautiful to the budget you have...

I’d go for the Waitrose flowers and a box of chocolates! It’s a lovely gesture. Also, Waitrose flowers last ages and are loads better than anything I’ve ever had from a florist- loads of customers used to say this too when a worked in Waitrose as a student years ago so not just me!

Agree with above post. You can ask a florist to make something for your budget.

I got Mother's Day flowers from Eflorist
(https://www.eflorist.co.uk/roses-alstro-pr32330). They were delivered tight in bud and are still opening even now. Would definitely recommend.

Did you read the OP?

woahhhh · 19/03/2024 19:17

People, the OP has said she spoke to a local florist and for £35 it would be a bit shit

I've made lovely bouquets by buying several cheap supermarket bunches, opening and combining them. I'm not artistic in the slightest but still made them look good!

TraitorsGate · 19/03/2024 19:20

Marries roses last ages and they often do free delivery

TraitorsGate · 19/03/2024 19:21

Marks, not marries

Mrsjayy · 19/03/2024 19:22

Morrisons bouquets are lovely the in a box ones used to £25.

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/03/2024 19:27

I just sent some flowers to a friend, Marks and Spencers £25 with free delivery for some lovely hyacinths and tulips. If you look on their website they show all the different bouquet options, with customer reviews for each. And they take Paypal, which I prefer.

sugar is the new smoking

What.

ElementalDiscord · 19/03/2024 19:31

Having tried most places I’d highly recommend M & S flowers. Have used them numerous times by post and they’ve been very good quality at a decent price. Very reliable too.

charliefair · 19/03/2024 19:32

This is alien to me.

Your child's form tutor is off and you want to give the cover teacher some flowers?

Am I on another planet, why would you do that?

Tidypidy · 19/03/2024 19:32

I like Bunches. Good selection and always delivered on day I requested.

mitogoshi · 19/03/2024 19:34

We get most our flowers for church from Tesco, they last really well, Morrisons though has a wrap service usually. Should be enough for flowers and chocolates

Quartzine · 19/03/2024 19:34

Bloom and Wild?

Mrsjayy · 19/03/2024 19:35

Why can't you buy a couple of bunches from Waitrose just wrap them together ?

Deathraystare · 20/03/2024 08:27

@mitogoshi

Not what the poster wants them for but my brother buys flowers for my parents' headstone from Tesco as they last a long time. Look pretty too!

yes this! Some clear plastic wrapping film and you can fill the bottom with water then hand tie and hand the outside in brown paper. I think Aldi flowers last the best.

Revelatio · 20/03/2024 08:58

Are you posting? I’d recommend Bloom and Wild. If you’re not posting how about a houseplant with a pot. Much more long lasting and sustainable.

Defiantlynot41 · 20/03/2024 09:03

Seconding Cornish Blooms posted above

Alternatively, if you buy a couple of Waitrose bunches and take them to the customer service desk, they will combine them nicely and wrap in tissue so it looks more like a florist bunch!

Twiglets1 · 20/03/2024 09:05

I buy fresh flowers a lot and think the ones from M&S last longer than the ones from Waitrose or even the independent florists I’ve tried like Bloom & Wild.

KitchenSinkLlama · 20/03/2024 09:08

What about a plant instead? Last much much longer.
