Child vomiting and I’ve got a huge meeting tomorrow

So my youngest has started vomiting. It’s like the exorcist, walls, carpet, bed etc. not the best news but normally I can manage. Except tomorrow I’ve got a huge meeting, massive. I’m Meeting some potential investors, taking them on a tour of our offices, showing them how our product works and then presenting in the afternoon. Others could probably do some of it, but I’m the point of contact, I’ve worked my ass off on this for months, and now I’m stuck. School won’t take her if she’s thrown up. I don’t want to send her in if she’s sick. I’m a single parent. Family are away, I’ve literally got no one who can help me. I can’t leave her, which means I can’t go in. So now my meeting is ruined and I could just cry

I wouldn't judge you if you sent her in.

Hatty65 · 17/03/2024 21:45

I'm really sorry. That sound awful. Is there not a single friend that might help you out as an emergency?

EmeraldRoses · 17/03/2024 21:46

Isn't here a Registered local child minder who could help?

As an emetophobe I would hugely judge you if you sent her in, just in case my child was next in line but oh, that is totally crap and I feel so bad for you.

Bayleaftree63 · 17/03/2024 21:47

Your child is more important. You’ll never get these years back and I get it from a corporate point of view. Yes you’ve worked your ass off but the effort will still shine through, even in your absence. Your DD needs you. Remember work will replace you in an instance, you can’t be replaced as her mumma, especially if she’s sick (literally!)

Pammela2 · 17/03/2024 21:47

Could you have a friend come and sit in the house? Set your daughter up with everything she needs to relax, go to the meeting and come straight home?

rufioooooo · 17/03/2024 21:47

Any friend or failing that a childminder who could watch her at your home for a couple of hours? I know it's extremely short notice but it could probably be done if you've got the cash.

This is ridiculous advice. You can't just look up a childminder and call them at 10pm on a Sunday evening and ask if they can look after your sick child for one day tomorrow.

ooooohnoooooo · 17/03/2024 21:48

Can you get an emergency nanny ? I know someone (in london) who works for a company called bright things who offer temp many coverage.

Worth a shot ?

This happened to me once and and my mother in law drove 50+ miles to bail me out. So stressful. My DD is 25 now. It gets better.

I wouldn't judge you if you sent her in.

So what about when it’s spread all around the school and then in 2/3 days 10 other mums are in the same position she is?

Comedycook · 17/03/2024 21:49

I've always thought the 48 rule was nonsense. Aren't tummy bugs most contagious right before the d&v starts? If she has stopped being sick and send her in who is to know anyway?

ooooohnoooooo · 17/03/2024 21:50

Correction - temp nanny agency called bright horizons.

3RingADing · 17/03/2024 21:50

I wish there weren't bad people in the world, if you were local to me I would mind her for you but obviously in the world we live in its not possible. But wouldn't it be nice if it was :(

How do you know? Know it all. We know a local child minder who has helped us out at the last minute in similar circumstances.

Why should everyone else get sick and have to worry about work and everything else?

Surely you need to know them already. I also doubt childminders will be thrilled to look after a vomiting child..

rufioooooo · 17/03/2024 21:53

If kids are going to get sick they will get sick. These bugs are more contagious before the vomiting starts anyway. Having said that if she's really unwell it's not fair on her to send her in and I think op knows that. It still sucks for her.

What a pathetic comment and unbelievably selfish attitude.

Comedycook · 17/03/2024 21:54

Might not even be a bug though. Could be food poisoning?

How would you feel If it was your child who caught it from hers? And then it spread through your household?

LongLostSock · 17/03/2024 21:55

Can you delegate the physical side and video conference the meeting?

That’s not true. You catch it from particles from the vomit and/or other end.

People going to the bathroom and not washing hands properly (children) will be spreading it.

48 hours is time enough to ensure that all is clean/finished. So I guess it could be overkill if it was very short, but usually they aren’t.

Yes my comment suggested that she contact a registered local childminder that she's knows of, maybe read the actual comments before you put your snotty little remarks.
