Do you ever look at your old house on RightMove?

Do you ever check to see if it’s being sold?

My last property the buyers sold it within a year and it was sad to look all the changes they’d made. Obviously it’s their property and they can do what they like with it.

Or are you not attached at all and couldn’t care less?

I do!

PiggieWig · 17/03/2024 19:33

No but I’ve looked at my grandparents houses

Copen · 17/03/2024 19:35

I do. The last owners completely renovated it so it's unrecognisable. Fair play to them, I thought I had done it up pretty nicely but when I saw what they did to the place I realise they had seen it as a doer-upper. Which it very much was, in retrospect, I was deluded and had become blind to how shabby it was as I had been there a long time.

AQuantityOfNaughtyCats · 17/03/2024 19:35

Yes. One is almost exactly the same as we left it. One has been ruined- grim tiles stuck on top of original parquet flooring etc. The other they’ve done what we’d have done if we’d had the cash at the time.

I’ve never been able to bring myself to do that. My grandma lived in her flat the entire 28 years I knew her. It was bought by a developer who would have ripped out everything and I just didn’t want to remember it that way.

I’m clearly a very sensitive person.

I still live in the first home I bought but I (accidentally both times) came across my childhood home and my grandparents old home on there. I didn’t feel sad at all, it was fascinating to see what they had done with them. I don’t see what there is to be sad about.

Caravaggiouch · 17/03/2024 19:37

Yeah, that’s how I found out they were using the photos from our sale listing to advertise it to rent out, which really bugged me.

SwedishEdith · 17/03/2024 19:38

Looked just yesterday as drove past and saw they'd replaced the original Victorian front door ☹️. However, it's had 3 owners since me and it's still the only house on the road with the original sash windows. Plus, the B and Q kitchen we put in to sell 18 years ago is still going strong 😀

gastontheeladybird · 17/03/2024 19:39

Yes
also look out for my childhood home and grandparents houses to see if they ever come up as well

ThursdayTomorrow · 17/03/2024 19:40

No but I will now - I never thought about it.

bossybloss · 17/03/2024 19:41

I looked up my Aunts old house.. she sold it in the 70s so it was interesting to see the changes !

JadeVS72 · 17/03/2024 19:44

Oh my god yeah!!
Our first flat we sold for a decent increase in 2016 then the buyer put it on the market about a year later after doing some pretty minor redecorations for a smidge more (5%ish) which didn't seem worth it. It was on and off for years after that and I think it finally sold for slightly more than we sold it for. Fascinating to watch 😂
Then the house we ended up letting go for far less than we wanted to considering it was such a lovely place to live but we had relocated, had a sale fall through, rented out for just over a year and then only realised once it was on the market our tenants had managed to make the bathroom mouldy during lockdown (😭) I search out occasionally but hopefully our buyers are happy there!!

webster1987 · 17/03/2024 19:46

Are you able to search for a particular house on rightmove?

transformandriseup · 17/03/2024 19:47

The bungalow I grew up in in the 90's was bought by an elderly couple and sold on when they died in 2009. I don't have any photos of the house of my own but I can see it on my Rightmove. The couple didn't do any work to it so I love seeing it as I remember it and also my parents sideboard which they bought from us when we moved. Sad I know 😂.

HeddaGarbled · 17/03/2024 19:49

Oh yes! Mostly I think, that looks great, why didn’t we do that?

smilingeleanor · 17/03/2024 19:49

yes i do

the house my parents sold 45 years ago still had the curtains my mum had handmade at the windows, same kitchen and bathroom. Amazing as they moved from there when i was 2!

Are you able to search for a particular house on rightmove?

Well you can either use the postcode if it’s on the market or include sstc.

If not then I search the road name and RightMove into Google and it’ll show you the previous listing from years back.

I do Grin

GreatGateauxsby · 17/03/2024 19:50

ALL THE TIME….

i want to see if what the fancy pants couple who bought it did to it!

Anjelika · 17/03/2024 19:51

I do! We sold our first home we'd lived in for 21 years in 2017 but looks like the buyers are still there. I have seen my grandparents house on Right Move and that was very nostalgic. Have looked for the house I lived in from the age of 3 to 11 many times but it doesn't look to have sold again since then and that was in 1976!

Rippedjeansharley · 17/03/2024 19:52

Well see I have this thing where I understand not everyone is the same and there will be things in the world that make other sad but not me. Maybe try it.

Yes, I have looked and found our old house on there. The people after the people we sold it to have done the extension that we would have done if we had had the money, they’ve made it really great.
The flat I had when I was single I haven’t ever found for sale, however, i found planning applications where they broke through to the attic and made a studio flat up there, and also built on the back and made another studio flat.
I found my sister’s old house by chance the other day and she was pleased to see it as she has moved to the USA 20 years ago.

Maskedpotato · 17/03/2024 19:57

Ours hasn't been sold since we sold it 18 years ago so the photos on Rightmove of it, are as we left it. I noticed on street view that it has now got solar panels on the roof.

Echobelly · 17/03/2024 20:01

This prompted me now to look at my first place... looks like the people who bought it off me are still there nearly 10 years later.

I know about our last place as we still live on the same street! The buyer built an extension to add a third bedroom and moved the lounge and kitchen around - my husband has been inside but I haven't. At one point he had planning permission for the changes but just put it back on the market (he was a housing developer and bought it for a family member) but evidently then decided to carry on and do it. It was odd when it came back on the market, as it still I think just had the photos with our stuff in there from when we sold it 6 months earlier!

LauderSyme · 17/03/2024 20:01

I never had until I read your question - and holy cow! An ex council house on the estate I grew up in is on the market for £600,000 and a house up the road from where I lived as a teenager wants offers in excess of £895,000.

The UK property market is utter madness!
