If you DIDN'T cook from scratch what did you have for dinner?

Feeling tired of seeing all the amazing meals cooked every day on mumsnet. I often cook from scratch but I've been so stressed and run down this week.

If you've been taking short cuts / been lazy cooking for whatever reason come and tell me what you did

Last night we had fish fingers, chips and beans and today Ikea meatballs, frozen mixed veg, mashed potatoes (made a batch a while ago and froze) and a jug of bisto

A bit short on greenery so I suppose I'd better just feed them broccoli and sprouts with a good splodge of cabbage tomorrow Grin

I had the highly nutritional dirty fries from M&S which I'd picked up this morning. DH is away tonight and frankly just turning the oven on was quite an effort!

I feel like this might be the thread to ask a chicken curry question I've had for a while!

Can anyone tell me how to make the easiest possible chicken curry using a jar of sauce or similar? Been veggie most of my adult life and have no idea how to transform raw chicken and sauce into curry... I know how to make chicken curry from scratch but want something low effort!!

My contribution to the thread: crumpets and baked beans, a hard boiled egg and an apple!

Spice Taylor curry kit from any supermarket. It really is the simplest ,quickest and tasty curry I have ever made. Recommend Kerala Coconut one . Takes 20mins with whatever meat or veg you use .

Had Charlie Bingham vegetable lasagne. Was nice.

Charlie Bigham Thai curry - it was on special offer. Served with peas which were cooked from scratch😀

I had hunters chicken from Iceland’s myprotein range. I’m obsessed with their meals!

I'll have to have a look at that range.

Frozen pizza and garlic bread with some salad to green it up a bit

OldMrsHempstock · 16/03/2024 21:38

I cooked properly this evening, but last night it was veggie burgers and chips from the freezer, and a bag of salad with a few tomatoes, olives and a chopped pepper added.

Pie and chips with lots of salt and vinegar. Yum.

Hummus and bread.
And a packet of tunnocks tea cakes

DiscoBeat · 16/03/2024 21:43

Home quite late today so I put chicken breasts in one of those Maggi bags and just made some mashed potatoes (with a Masha blender) and frozen sweetcorn. Super lazy but good comfort food.

BulldogMumma · 16/03/2024 21:48

I'm afraid that I ordered fillet steak from a local restaurant. Can't do that every day. I need to get cooking again. Doesn't seem worth it, cos I'm on my own.

DH died over 3 yrs ago. Not unexpected, given his age and health, but still left me reeling. I initially lost 2 stone. Put it all back on again when I started eating. Lost another stone (deliberately).

I need to lose more weight, but also need to increase my iron intake. (Tired, post-meno gynae problems and lost hair through stress, etc.) Iron tablets don't agree with me.

The only 'cooking' I've been doing for a while has been just about anything you can do with an egg. I need to extract the digit.

There are two types of iron tablets. The cheap ones prescribed and gentler on the tummy but more expensive type you can buy over the counter (although they’re cheaper than prescription cost). Ask the pharmacy about them.

I shall do. Thanks.

A £7.50 (not very nice) Tesco family cottage pie and i made up some extra Bisto gravy and peas for the four of us. Not the best but it was a meal and we all really couldn't be arsed.

bonzaitree · 16/03/2024 22:29

Sushi tray.

pudding was a granola cookie.

No ragrets

weareallqueens · 16/03/2024 22:29

Mini kievs, chips and carrot sticks. Still refused by DD4.

EeesandWhizz · 16/03/2024 22:31

Got teen DS to cook!! It's great now that he's more useful! Gave him a pack of minced beef and got something similar to the slimming world cheeseburger pasta in a bowl delivered to the sofa with a drink (he's the only one not watching the rugby!).

Noseybookworm · 16/03/2024 22:38

I did make a very quick chilli from scratch but had microwave rice and a bag of tortilla chips with it!

honeyfox · 16/03/2024 22:41

Lidl Chicken Pizza, it's their Ristorante imitation one. Was ok, would try the Spinach & Ricotta one next time.

Normally cook from (mostly) scratch but were out visiting relatives today so couldn't be bothered.

Naptimeagain · 16/03/2024 22:48

Two hot cross buns with lots of butter and half a punnet of grapes.
