Well fuck you then!

Just a teeny rant.

Spent the last couple of days decorating the hallway, stripped the old wood chip off which is a bastard of a job, glossed the woodwork and put up new paper.

Husband has just walked in to the living room and I said 'all done, what do you think?'

His reply 'I can see a bubble in the paper from here' that's it. End of. Now watching shit on YouTube.

Well fuck you then. I do all the decorating, if I didn't then nothing would have been done at all in the last 15 years we've been here, I carpeted the stairs and landing by myself, I've redecorated every room except the bathroom which is getting ripped out and redone soon. I don't bother asking for help now because it's clear he has no interest in it, but is it too much to expect a 'good job, it looks nice'? He's generally a good husband, 50/50 around the house, cooking, parenting etc but it would have been nice to just fake a tiny bit of interest and spend 1 whole minute looking at it.

Doesn't sound like a good husband to me

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 16/03/2024 20:18

Thank you all, he really is genuinely a good guy usually, but today he's just pissed me off.

He has zero interest in how the house looks,he just never looks around and thinks 'oh that's looking a bit shabby' or 'we really need a better storage solution because that corners now a dumping ground' so I'm ok with being the person who initiates and does the decorating, it would however be nice to get a tiny little bit of positive recognition when it's done.

He is the cook, I find cooking boring and if I have to do it then it's very much a case of what can be thrown on a tray and put in the oven for 30 minutes while I do something else. When he makes a special effort or tries something new I always thank him and find something nice to say even if it isn't a huge success.

Anyway, DD is happy, she's come home full of junk food, with new trainers, crocs, a couple of pairs of water shoes and new waterproofs ready for holiday club at Easter.

The paper in the downstairs loo is from B&Q, top tip for novice DIYers is to use Paste-the-wall wallpaper. It's thick so hides slightly dodgy plaster work, you slap some ready made paste straight on the wall then roll the paper from top to bottom and slice it off with a Stanley knife. None of that soaking, folding, manoeuvring sticky wet paper nonsense.

Previous owners wallpapered every room including ceilings with woodchip, I love them so much! So I've got it sussed now, score it all over with a Stanley knife or use one of those wheely perforator things, then spray with warm water, wait 10 minutes, spray again and it peels off ok. You just find tiny chips of wood in your bra and socks for the next couple of days.

LOL at this too! 😆

May I suggest a rose bed with a few endangered plants so you'll need a court order to dig up.

Blood and bone is so good for young plants ....

is there a bubble?

😁

Atethehalloweenchocs · 16/03/2024 22:15

Oh God, OP, can you come and do mine? I will be ever so ever so grateful and say all nice things to you. To be fair, this is what I do with the tradesmen I pay to do this stuff. If I were getting it done for free, I would tell you what a queen you are every single day. (Only slightly light hearted!).

Brilliant wallpaper @FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain. And looks like you did a great job. Glad you and DD went out together - I bet she had a great time. 🌹

Tell him you can see a bubble in his face. A Stanley knife and some glue would fix it though…

Shouldn’t have, but really made me laugh

YANBU but at the same time he is more than used to you decorating so wouldn't think it was a big deal?
