Packing cubes

JackOrMeryl · 14/03/2024 18:33

I am looking to get a set of packing cubes, mainly for week-long trips. They need to fit quite a bit because I travel for work a lot and need to pack suits as well as casual wear.

I've looked at a few on Amazon but they seem quite flimsy. I'd rather not buy something that will last only a couple of trips or where the zip may break while away. Compression or 'regular' cubes OK.

I'm happy to pay for quality but I must be able to order them online as I loathe going out shopping unless it's for shoes :-) TIA.

these ones have been brilliant. DS and I both have a set, have been used loads and are like new.

I have these too. Only ones I've had that are good

I bought some from Amazon years ago, and they're still going strong. They look similar to those linked by @NorthFaceofthelaundrypile

I use them to separate each person's clothes when we pool our luggage allowances. When coming home, I use them to separate clean clothes from washing, and separate washing into dark, light etc.

I was tempted by compression packing cubes, but I've been put off by reviews that say you can only get a tiny bit more in them. I think if you pack the cubes carefully so that you flatten without straining the zips, they're effective in getting more in a case.

TheBirdintheCave · 15/03/2024 09:49

Ours are CabinMax brand and are still going strong after seven years of use :)

Movinghouseatlast · 15/03/2024 09:51

The Mia Tui ones are great. As is their life changer of a travel bag!

Georgyporky · 15/03/2024 10:04

We've got Amazon basics .
They're 5 years old, usually 4-6 trips p.a., & they are as good as new.

KitchenSinkLlama · 15/03/2024 10:07

I've just used the g4free compression cubes for a long haul multicentre holiday. Really good and I'm a convert. Keeps everything separate and easy to find.

I got mine from Amazon.

Champagnebar · 15/03/2024 11:34

I also have Mia Tui cubes - I tend to travel light so find these really useful for even small things like toiletries and electrical cables etc

littlequestion · 15/03/2024 11:58

Would any of these suggestions be small enough for a rucksack?

TheBirdintheCave · 15/03/2024 15:44

@littlequestion You can get packing cubes in lots of different sizes. My CabinMax ones came as a set of different shapes in small, medium and large. We've used the little ones for backpacks before.

I've had these for about 3 years. Going strong!

I’ve read all these responses and I just don’t get it, can somebody please explain packing cubes to me, I’ve seen them but don’t know what the benefit is of having an extra pack to go in your case, surely that takes up more room than just putting your clothes straight in your case? I’m confused 🫤

TheBirdintheCave · 15/03/2024 18:57

@Queenofheart Weirdly I do find that they make the clothes take up less room, ours aren't compression ones either.

I also think they make unpacking at the other end easier as I can just grab the cube which contains the pyjamas, pants and socks, for example, and pop them in a drawer.

Singasongtime · 15/03/2024 21:10

Another vote for G4free Amazon. Had them for a few years and going strong.

Forgot to add, ive had mine since 2017 , so they have done a few road trips and single stay holidays and i also use to store my knitting and crochet.

Iknowwhatadogis · 16/03/2024 10:57

I see that Muji have my favourite packing cubes in stock again. I love these cos there is no structure in them (so they don't take up extra room). They have a mesh front so you can see what's inside them.

I have quite a lot of packing cubes; IKEA, some compression ones (which I don't like, can't see inside them) random ones and 2 x Muji (about to order some more now) https://uk.muji.eu/products/polyester-garment-case-s-19034

Another vote for Eagle creek

Great quality. I have had mine for closer to 15+ years now. The zips are the ones to wear off quickly, in these sorts products and the Eaglecreek products are fabulous in that respect.
