Gotta be

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The Good Place

there are other shows I love but I think these two don’t have a single bad episode. It’s all brilliant right from the pilot to the finale

Definitely after about Buffy!

I'd add:

Firefly
Lucifer
Firefly Lane
The Handmaid's Tale
Grey's Anatomy
Scrubs
Friends
House
Criminal Minds
Person of Interest
Dollhouse
Angel

Actually loved it! Nudge was one of the best characters ever on TV.

I might give it another go. I think it's on Disney.

I was obsessed with it back in the day!

Me too!

And it was nice rewatching it as i’d forgotten certain parts and then as you’re watching it you remember why you loved it in the first place.

It did have some great mini story lines within the big story line and great characters.

I watched it on Disney plus 😁

Friday Night Lights
Mindhunter (WHY is there not more?)

I can't agree re TWW as it had a couple of seasons that were pants, but they pulled it together for the final season, and the last season of Brooklyn 99 is not great.

Brilliant throughout:

Spiral
The Glory (recent K drama)
Happiness (ditto)
All of Us Are Dead (ditto)
Hotel del Luna (ditto)
Squid Game (ditto)
The Wire
Alice in Borderland
The Shield
The Good Place (I found this really uplifting)
Angel
Buffy
Wentworth
I Claudius (just rewatched - not seen it since I was a small child!)
The Mire - all three series
How to Get Away With Murder (unlike the others in my list, it’s absolute nonsense, but strangely compelling due to Viola Davies!)
Superstore (the first series is sheer genius)
Blackadder (all four series)

Brilliant apart from last episode(s):

Battlestar Galactica (affected by writers’ strike)
Lost (lost its way 😹)
Line of Duty
Prison Break

Veep. Every episode is a work of art.

Ghosts and detectorists I agree with.

West Wing the early series are far too starry eyed and the last one understandably flagged in places. I do love it though

Blackadder after Ben Elton joined for series 2. 1 is a different show

Frasier the post Niles and Daphne series lost steam

Friends had the odd episode where they were phoning it in. Final series again flagged and looking back on it it's so sexist we won't let our DCs watch

Bones
Supernatural
Castle
Firefly
Fringe

One Foot in the Grave. Every episode still makes me laugh out loud (and I've watched several times) but there are also some very sad moments.

Bobbotgegrinch · 13/03/2024 18:00

I love Buffy but we're currently watching it with DD and by god is season 6 a slog, so I can't agree with you on that. I'd say Firefly counts, but mainly because it never got a chance to be shit, it got cancelled too soon.

StaunchMomma · 13/03/2024 18:05

The Bridge
Happy Valley
True Detective Season 1
This is England
24 Season 1

I recently watched a NZ series called Dedadloch that I really enjoyed. Best thing I've seen in a while.

Thanks for starting this thread, Op - it's reminded me of all of the series I've been meaning to get to for years.

Agree with many:

Chernobyl
Six Feet Under (second best TV show ever IMO)
Black Books – so packed and tightly plotted, you think you're remembering about three episodes, then you rewatch and ALL of those things happened in one 30-minute episode. It's the best comedy show I've ever seen, hands down.
Succession (best TV show ever, no debate)
Slow Horses
Mad Men – every episode is exemplary. Apart from Succession, the only TV I've ever seen where there is not one weak link, or even one weak moment, in performance/characterisation/writing/plot/directing/look/music/costumes/everything.
The Traitors
Homicide
Happy Valley

Also The Killing (original Danish one)

Last Tango in Halifax was excellent until the last couple, when they did Xmas specials and very short seasons, and I got the impression Sally W was phoning it in a bit.

Sherlock: first season was dynamite, then success went to Steven Moffat's head and he started playing silly buggers, with the deerstalker, getting in Cumberbatch's parents and Freeman's STBEx, pandering to mad fans with the Molly and Sherlock will-they-wont-they shite etc. And it went misogynistic as hell too.
Still, we'll always have Season 1.

Brooklyn 99

Schitts Creek for sure

EasternStandard · 13/03/2024 18:09

The thing about Succession and Mad Men which were my choices is that the whole way through it was fantastic but the ending was excellent

You need that on point end. Succession in particular was perfect
