Who is truly happy in there job I absolutely love parts of my job it’s where we spend most of our time so it’s good to be happy

I love parts of my job but we also have some really difficult entitled clients and it just makes me want to walk out. I give a lot of extra time to my role but sometimes it just seems the more you give to people the more demands they make. I've been doing similar roles for 6 years and never known it be this bad. I'm counting down to retirement, just a few years to go.

BrutusMcDogface · 09/03/2024 09:38

What do you do, op?

I’ve fallen out with my job so much (teaching) that I’ve handed in my notice, with nothing to go to!! 😱

I did this 2 years ago, it all worked out, hope it does for you too.

Wow good on you! So many of our teachers have left this year also 😔

On the whole, I love my job. It's given me opportunities that I never had in my last job. The people I work with are now some of my good friends, the people I support are supportive in return. I have the flexibility to choose how and where I work as long as I show my face in the office at least once a month (I do once a week)

There are days where I have a meltdown and apply for other jobs, but these are few and far between.

I'm not sure I'd get the same elsewhere which is a sticking point as the pay isn't great I could get more if I went and worked in London but then I'd have to do more days in the office.

wpfklaur · 09/03/2024 09:43

So I preferred my old job that was a bit more stretching and interesting, I sold out for a better paying but somewhat more boring job (ironically will less responsibility) and whilst the job itself does not satisfy me as much as previously, the improved work life balance (I WFH), good salary, complete autonomy and NO line management brings me a lot of overall joy. So I'm actually happier, if a little bored sometimes!

Yearendjoy · 09/03/2024 09:47

I absolutely love my job. Sometimes I'm gutted I have to log off at the end of the day. Nothing more satisfying than a really hard day at work knowing you'd given it everything.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 09/03/2024 09:55

Mostly! It's been as bit full on this week so looking forward to a quieter time next week.

Hoglet70 · 09/03/2024 10:15

Swings and roundabouts but now I'm old I know the grass is not always greener. I work with a great team of people which definitely makes it better when I go through one of my 'god, I don't want to do this anymore' phases.

Allthecatseverywhereallatonce · 09/03/2024 10:25

I have found a new love for my job. I was temporarily reassigned to a new area that was mega stressful, I would feel physically sick going in.
Since I have moved back, I have had a chat with my manager, and am looking at doing training in an area I have always been interested, it is so lovely that my team have missed me. It has helped me see the nice parts of my jobs and handle the stress that os always there in a more manageable way.

awitchoftroubleinelectricblue · 09/03/2024 10:28

I'm a supply teacher and mostly love it. I hate getting up and going to work though and am not happy with the cold I've caught recently - I feel very grotty today. I can take Monday off though, knowing it won't impact on anyone other than my bank account.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 09/03/2024 10:32

Not really, I don't think I'm very good at it and have a constant fear of my failings being exposed (yes, I do know about imposter syndrome but I don't think it is a syndrome, sadly). I'm intending to look for something I'd be better at when I've been in this one for a more respectable length of time.

Beckafett · 09/03/2024 10:33

Yes I like my job and the organisation I work for. I feel like I make a difference and that's a massive motivator for me.

SpringOfContentment · 09/03/2024 10:41

Nope.
But I'm probably being highly swayed by the fact 80% of the team were off on Friday, which nearly tipped me over the edge.
Hopefully a few people will be feeling better by Monday, otherwise next week is going to be a shit show.

JamSandle · 09/03/2024 10:43

Yes. I enjoy my job and like the people. The workload can be high and money could always be higher! But I appreciate I'm lucky.

Permanentlyunimpressed · 09/03/2024 10:50

Yes, I love what I do. Haven't always loved every employer which is why I'm now self employed in the same field.

Silverumbrella · 09/03/2024 10:52

I have one of the most easiest jobs in the world and do enjoy it to a degree, however it bores the absolute pants off me but at 51 and in full perimenopause with other health issues making matters worse and caring part timr for my mum who has Alzheimer’s I’m just going to have to put up with it.

I do very much wish I had studied harder when younger and git myself a job where I could have actually used my brain cells (and maybe had some interesting adult conversation to boot), we live and learn.

I do envy people who not only have interesting and well paid jobs but actually enjoy the work also, they are very fortunate.

whatisforteamum · 09/03/2024 11:03

Aspects I love the work, customers however my direct colleagues have made my life a living misery.
Sadly the place I left had it's stressful moments yet the colleagues where supportive and great fun.
Work was all consumming but I looked forward to going in.
Needless to say I'm still engaged in my work but looking to trade to nicer team.😁

Tayegete · 09/03/2024 11:04

I work with great people in the main, have a relatively interesting job with a good overall package if you take pension into account. It’s also flexible and my boss is very supportive. However if I didn’t have to work I’d be out of there like a shot.
Im jealous of those who genuinely love working.

FourChimneys · 09/03/2024 11:13

Absolutely love it, but I run my own business and have tailored it carefully so that I only do things I enjoy. I will continue past retirement age if my health allows. I would miss it too much to just stop when I reach an arbitrary age.

DrunkenElephant · 09/03/2024 11:13

I absolutely hate it. There is such a toxic, blame culture and whatever you do is never enough.

Finally took a leap and I’m going to Uni in September to retrain in my dream career.

Gettingbysomehow · 09/03/2024 11:14

I'd be extremely happy in my work if I worked 3 days a week and had the rest of the week off. I work 5 days and I am absolutely exhausted.
I'm a senior staff member and I've been working in the NHS for 43 years.
I love my patients but it's absolutely gruelling. I have to work to 67 to get my full pension and a divorce has set me back.
I think people in manual or caring jobs should be allowed to retire at 60.
Can you imagine building houses at 67. So many don't make it.
My bastard husband left for another woman just as we had sorted out early retirement and setting up a business and messed it all up
Then had the bloody nerve to ask to come back as his relationship failed and he was skint. You can imagine what I said.
I've had to delay my plans for 5 years but I'm still going ahead and I'm well on track.

SunshinePaddles · 09/03/2024 11:17

I used to. I had a great team around me.

Mass redundancies left me taking on their duties plus my own in an already fast paced, highly stressful role. Whilst management has constantly promised help is available it never appears.

I have an interview on Tuesday.
