Who is truly happy in there job I absolutely love parts of my job it’s where we spend most of our time so it’s good to be happy

Yes. As a pig in shite. 😉

I WFH FT in a job which does require focus & attention to detail, but isn’t particularly challenging. The company is decent. The people are great. My stress levels are the lowest & my work / life balance is the best it has ever been. The salary is adequate, there is no office politics BS and I’m obviously saving a fortune on commuting, lunch etc costs. Obviously, there are frustrations. I would love to work compressed hours Mon-Thurs & take Fridays off, but that’s not an option.

This job suits me perfectly at this stage of my life, and I have zero interest in networking or being promoted. I do understand, however, that WFH FT isn’t for everyone and some people would find it boring, isolating and a barrier to career progression.

EmpressSoleil · 09/03/2024 11:47

The work itself is boring. But I am full time from home. Hours can be done whenever I want, not stuck on 9-5. It takes nowhere near a full day to produce a days work. So I have loads of free time. The pay is decent. I can't fault it really.

It suits me for my stage of life, 50's and menopausal. If I can do this till I retire I'll be happy! I did the whole office thing for decades and am well over it.

wpfklaur · 09/03/2024 09:43

So I preferred my old job that was a bit more stretching and interesting, I sold out for a better paying but somewhat more boring job (ironically will less responsibility) and whilst the job itself does not satisfy me as much as previously, the improved work life balance (I WFH), good salary, complete autonomy and NO line management brings me a lot of overall joy. So I'm actually happier, if a little bored sometimes!

This is basically me. I like the people I work with. I’ve done more interesting jobs, more fulfilling jobs and insanely stressful jobs. And also worked in 2 workplaces that were toxic and I left as soon as I could.

so on balance happy if a little bored, but that’s OK.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/03/2024 11:54

Yes. I love my job and my team. Paediatric nurse for 20 years.

ALunchbox · 09/03/2024 12:17

Yes I enjoy it very much. There s a lot of creativity involved and no two days are the same. I have a lot of autonomy as to how I do things and while about half of my time is spent office based, the rest is WFH.
I get a lot of holidays too.

chatenoire · 09/03/2024 12:21

I love my company but don't love my role. Plus a re-structure has been so terribly handled that I'll quit once I find something good enough.
It's a shame though.

If I get the job I'm interviewing for tomorrow, I'll talk to our MD, but realistically I've been told that unless there's budget somewhere else, I can't move.

What do you do, op?

I’ve fallen out with my job so much (teaching) that I’ve handed in my notice, with nothing to go to!! 😱

I was you a few years ago and don't regret it at all! Doing supply, also working in adult learning for the council, another extra job as a carer for holiday shifts. Much happier! All of these jobs together are much less stressful than working as a fulltime teacher. Hang on in there and please apply to community adult learning. Small classes, adults, no behaviour issues, bliss! Xx

Nurse of 29 years. Love and hate - love my patients, hate the pressure the job brings which nly seems to be getting worse as the years role by.

HarpQuartet · 10/03/2024 19:55

@EmpressSoleil that sounds like my dream job. I think I could put up with being bored to avoid commuting into an office.

MuseumAssistant · 10/03/2024 19:55

I genuinely love my job and the people I work with.

Just walking to work makes me smile and I know how lucky I am, because I've never had a job that's made me do that.

NeedtostopusingMNsomuch · 10/03/2024 19:58

Following with interest, SAHM wanting to get back to work but its a huge lifestyle change and scary and I want a job I enjoy rather than dread. This is giving me hope!

Itsmeamandaberry · 10/03/2024 19:58

I was hating my job and then got made redundant 👌. I start my new job this week and I'm so excited. More money and just so much better.

TeenLifeMum · 10/03/2024 20:02

I used to love my job but now work with a gaslighting bully. She will put others down to make her look better and senior people lap it up. I’m hoping she’ll get pregnant and give me a year to enjoy the job without her being there. I have to stay for the moment but in a year I can start looking at my options.

Echobelly · 10/03/2024 20:05

I have just been made redundant from a job that was a bit like @wpfklaur - a pay move up, but less responsible and a not as interesting; so I wasn't gutted it came to an end. It was a new role and they just didn't do as much with it as they expected and as it was a huge organisation, there was little flexibility for me to do things that were 'outside my lane', though I did try, but I was kind of only allowed to spend time on stuff for one specific team unless another team paid mine for my time.

I did enjoy my job before that a lot, though it got into a bit of a rut after 9 years and I'm glad I moved from editorial towards 'content management' in the job just gone. I have applied for as many roles in about 8 weeks as I was able to in 6 months last time I was made redundant, as an editor, and there were barely any jobs to apply to.

I'm a 'work to live' rather than 'live to work' kind of girl - I like to start work at 9 finish at 5 and have a lunch break, but I do like to be busy during my working hours. I have two interviews this week - one for an external role that's like my one just gone but in a smaller business where I think I'll be able to try more things; one for a career-swerve jobs in sales in the other business wing at the place that just let me go (they allow for people to be rehired) that will be more intense but a lot more money and I'm willing to try out as probably my only shot in my career to try something totally different, although actually quite a good match for my skill-set.

GeorgeBeckett · 10/03/2024 20:12

NHS. I do still love my job. I always knew I’d work over and above but the sheer expansion of how much this is translating into routine just to stay vaguely afloat is a bit ridiculous.

I think the thing that’s hardest is working really really hard but still knowing patients received a poorer standard of care than you would have liked and unacceptable things happened. If you’ve worked super hard and gone over and above but done a really great job and know you‘ve made a difference that’s much nicer.

Hayliebells · 10/03/2024 20:12

I do, but that's mainly due to my specific circumstances, I'm lucky. I'm a teacher and I have absolutely hated working elsewhere. Thought about quitting teaching every day. My current school is good, but the people I work with are absolutely brilliant, I could not ask for a better group of colleagues, some of which are very close friends, and my line manager is lovely. Some classes make me want to tear my hair out, but some are a joy to teach, and my colleagues always make me smile. I only work 4 days a week though so the workload is manageable, full time is too knackering. I think there's research that most people's satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) in their job is determined not by the actual job, but by their relationships with colleagues. That's definitely true for me. I've worked in schools that are so toxic, I just can't see how they have any staff left. If key people left and it became a horrible place to work, I'd be out the door in a shot. Life is too short.

Mummadeze · 10/03/2024 20:20

I mostly feel very fortunate and enjoy my job in TV. My main issue is the constant restructuring that we have to go through which creates anxiety, bad feeling and low morale. If it wasn’t for that, I would say I love my job.

Chickenwing2 · 10/03/2024 20:32

Have never loved any job. My previous job was very easy for okay money, I could skive most of the day (and read a book/watch tv) as I work from home. I recently changed role for something more challenging in the same organisation and totally regret it as I am now very stressed out all day, didn't realise how good I had it before! I do feel more satisfied that I'm contributing to hard work, but work life balance really is the most important thing to me.

No, I can truly say I loathe my job. I think I'm slightly on the spectrum and really struggle. Initially I form good relationships with colleagues but it inevitably breaks down when I become so overwhelmed and shut down and then repeat cycle, another new job, having to learn the ropes, make new relationships and then becoming overwhelmed. Maybe it's not the job I loathe and maybe it's more to do with my personality but I can't say I am truly passionate about the role. It's an admin type office job.

Itsmeamandaberry · 10/03/2024 20:47

Thank you @Nicetobenice67 it's a step up so feeling very nervous 😬
