What is your pay rise this year? Is your wage rising promotional to NMW

Mindyoursoul · 08/03/2024 18:07

With the NaMW rising to 11.44 in April. The gaps between them and skilled roles will be narrowed. What are your employers doing about this if anything? Of course I think the NMW should be raised but so should all the wages in a lower income bracket. Why should someone who’s had training and experience only be earning almost the same as someone on minimum wage.

I probably won't get one. In which case I'll probably be on minimum wage

DollyTots · 08/03/2024 18:30

I earn over minimum wage at the moment but will go up to the new increase. Issue being my role will then be paid the same as less senior positions in the company with less responsibility, where there is currently a differential. I doubt they are going to maintain the difference, I’m hoping for at least something though, otherwise what’s the point.

Rowgtfc72 · 08/03/2024 19:27

Used to work 39 hrs, minimum wage.
Work changed contract to unpaid breaks but a pay rise( so they could advertise as best paid in the area)
I'm on 11. 68. No pay rise for me and pretty sure we've been shafted over this.

Nhs nurse. Our wages our public.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 08/03/2024 19:33

Some people seem to think we will get a rise. Personally I don’t think we will, (we struggle to recruit and the reason is the pay) or if we do they make a cut elsewhere, such as contracted hours or free meals. Tbh, it will be disappointing if we don’t get a rise given location of the job and the hours, plus we are so short staffed and several key colleagues are retiring this year without any replacements in mind. Given we already are expected to do 6 days a week there isn’t either the time or incentive for working longer. Which would mean we are actually a lot worse off. Dh thinks he might get a rise as another division has. Shall wait and see.

Spring5 · 08/03/2024 20:29

Ive had a 4% rise this year (corporate)

CrispEater2000 · 08/03/2024 20:31

If you begrudge people on NMW a pay rise because it brings what they earn close to what you earn maybe get youself a NMW job and give all your skills a rest?

Tbf, many public sector workers are. Definitely teachers, nurses and police anyway.

It's quite tempting, then I wouldn't have to deal with high flying executives and their mood swings.

Mine are lovely and I can handle them but sometimes I wonder if the stress is worth it.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 09/03/2024 01:47

@CrispEater2000only on nmw. So thanks for the judgement.

@xSideshowAuntSallyx I can assure you that dealing with members of the public and their mood swings when you’re “just a sales assistant” isn’t a walk in the park either 👍🏻

I already had a pay rise that was implemented in January. My full time salary is £24,196. My job requires no formal qualifications to do, just the right personality (customer service).

I don't think I should be paid more than junior doctors for example, but there's nothing I can do about other people's salaries. Everyone should be paid enough to live on.

PrincessOfPreschool · 09/03/2024 06:44

I have had training and experience and I get minimum wage. My job is also skilled.

MeinKraft · 09/03/2024 06:49

1% rise, be still my beating purse

Peekingovertheparapet · 09/03/2024 06:55

We won’t have any clue until summer - pay negotiations with employer, then union. Pay deal was agreed last July for August payroll.

SaraSosej · 09/03/2024 06:58

At my company everyone is getting a blanket 5% pay rise this month (financial services)

Goinoutalone · 09/03/2024 07:28

4.5%…it’s ridiculous, I have asked for more.

TravellingSpoon · 09/03/2024 07:28

I have 3 roles within one service within a Local Authority. One of my roles will be below NMW so I will get an uplift for those hours. My payslips are a nightmare to decipher.

Estellaa · 09/03/2024 09:16

I got an extra 150pm.

Startingagainandagain · 09/03/2024 09:38

We got 5% last year but only 4% this year.

Supposedly this is across the organisation to have a fair and simple system (I work for a charity) but I have realised that behind the scenes some people have negotiated their own pay raise so I am actually angry about the pretence...

Job hunting to find something better.

RagzRebooted · 09/03/2024 09:45

GP practice nurse (doing NHS work but we don't get NHS pay and conditions).
Government announced last year we'd get a 6% rise. Apparently they funded this (they kind of did, but badly). Our practice has been putting it off since last summer. Teasing us with saying they'd announce it in September, then October, then after Christmas, then nothing. Was supposed to be backdated to April as well.

At least 1/4 of GP staff across the country have had nothing, many have had less than 6%.
Our reception staff are NMW (which is shocking) so at least they will get a >6% rise next month anyway, but obviously not backdated.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 09/03/2024 01:47

Not sure what your point is? I didn't say "only" on NMW. The point I was making is that just because the NMW is what it is doesn't mean it should be kept low to justify lower wages across the board.

K0OLA1D · 09/03/2024 09:49

Zilch, nothing, nada. In fact they're making redundancies. Really looking forward to the future!

I am really pleased the NMW is going up though

Elephantswillnever · 09/03/2024 09:57

One of my bosses has already complained to me about min wage going up. Most of the staff are on £10.50 an hour. I think it’ll go up to £11.50 in a round figure. My other job is LA we got a backdated pay rise on the back of strike action last year to £12.70. The union is pushing for a rise to maintain differential but who knows?

CeeJay81 · 09/03/2024 10:04

One of those rubbish, unskilled jobs people like to go on about. I actually like my job though. Going from £10.90ph to £12 ph.
