I’m going to sound really daft here but I’ll explain it as best as I can 😂

ok so mumsnet use a lot of things like
DH , IMO , DC , DD , DS and OP

Surely

DH is dear husband
DC is dear child
and So on.

i don’t have a clue what all these actually mean and a lot of the time I just write DH as Dear Husband in that right?

like IMO I don’t know what that means 😂

I’ve been on here for at least 2 years!
im I the only one …. ☝️ 😂😂😂😂

I hated them initially but find myself using them more over time.

For ages, I assumed HTH meant Hit The Hay. Genuinely thought posters meant, sleep on it, rethink it in the morning, get some rest. It seemed to make sense in most cases.

Love this! Was it entirely your own interpretation, or did you find it by Googling?

No just me but in my defense, it's how a former flatmate used to say goodnight!

"It's getting late, I better hit the hay".

I have to say the DDog and DCat just annoy me. It makes no sense- it's actually making it longer to write. Just say dog or cat. Who tf ever refers to their dog as dear dog??

I have to admit, I always thought Ddog and Dcat were created to make a joke out of all the other “dear” acronyms going way too far. Even “oh do fuck off” is ODFOD because it’s got a “Dear” on the end. At this rate, in five more years, it’s going to be DCFs, instead of just “cheeky fuckers.”

My favorite, though, has to be the poster whose autocorrect changed DD to Dad, so the beginning of her post read something like, “I’m having a terrible time trying to toilet train my Dad.”

Omg! I've been on Mumsnet for a couple of years now and have assumed the whole time that the D was for DARLING, not dear! No idea how I decided this Confused it has certainly made everyone's posts sound much more twee in my head than they should have been. This is truly mind blowing!

SquashPenguin · 08/03/2024 07:23

I find them quite annoying to read, like it’s actually harder to read posts with all these stupid acronyms than it is a normally written post.

Id never use them personally. I don’t see the point.

My absolute favourite is ODFOD and it's RL answer 'love you too'
