Evri put my parcel in the bin - which then got emptied!

Just discovered that Evri left a parcel in my bin on Monday night and my teenager very kindly put the bins out ready for Monday morning. The bin was full before the parcel went in there.
There was no delivery note through the door and I wasn't expecting the delivery till today.

The parcel was from Next and they did email me but I missed it (my mum just died so not exactly on the ball with admin)

It was a gift costing £60 - have I got a leg to stand on asking for a refund/replacement?

Classic.

Does anyone in your house have "the bin" set as a safe space for Evri? If not then contact Next - they are usually amazing at this sort of thing. Explain it, with a photo of the card from Evri if possible or any other supporting evidence. A screen shot of the councils bin timetable for instance.

Of course, the company that you bought the item from contracted for Evri to deliver it to you and Evri has not. It's their problem to solve as it is their contractor that is at fault, it's not your problem. So yes of course.

Evri know full well that 'in the bin' is a stupid place that practically no-one asks or wants their parcel to be delivered to, mishaps like this will happen, and it's an unhygienic practice anyway carried out by very questionable delivery drivers, in my opinion.

Probably avoid buying from companies that use Evri in future too, as your local driver is clearly an idiot. Or get your items delivered to a parcel pick-up point.

TeenyTinyCrocodile · 06/03/2024 22:28

Are Evri the ones that used to be Yodel? Or Hermes? In either case, they've been ridiculous for decades, and large companies are using them because they are cheap - ergo, the companies already know they will have X % of this type of issue, and have built it into their financial model, because it's still cheaper to send out replacements than using a more expensive courier for everything. So don't wonder for a minute whether to make a fuss! (It does get very annoying though especially when the item was a sale one or otherwise the last of something.)

This is one of the reasons I use Amazon a lot now, because their delivery drivers here are better than any of the other main couriers. I'm not that keen on Amazon's business model, but I like my parcels clean, dry, on time, and put in the sensible place I've asked them to if I'm out.

I love in the card recycling bin as a place. Much better than left with a neighbour or taken somewhere that's a pain in the arse.
I actually request it.
It infuriates me that royal mail won't leave things in it so I don't buy from anyone who uses royal mail.

StickSeason · 06/03/2024 22:29

Thanks both. I have emailed Next and have screenshots of the council bin collections.

They didn't leave a card so I didn't check - hopefully Next will be helpful.

I could live with behind the bin - ironically found a pile of Amazon parcels there when I went to check for this one!

Of course you have a "leg to stand on" - more than that you have every right to recieve the thing you paid for. You have not yet received it. Evri were entrusted with your delivery and instead of delivering it they put it in the bin which is stupid and does not meet the requirement of safe delivery. Until the package is delivered it is not your responsibility and its loss will be borne by Evri. They may try to make you feel responsible but they would be lying.

Cherrysoup · 06/03/2024 22:34

So sorry about your mum. 🫂

Evri left a parcel on my doorstep yesterday. Anyone could have taken it. So stupid. The other regular Evri delivery guy leaves it under the back door covered in bit out of sight. Just ridiculous to have left it on the front door step!

StickSeason · 06/03/2024 22:47

@Cherrysoup thank you. It's been a pretty awful couple of weeks and I think Evri may push me over the edge! 🙄

They're the piss artists formerly known as Hermes. Never used to have a problem with the old courier who was there during lockdown, but recently there have been a few deliveries up to five days after they'd claimed they were delivering, one that was meant to be here November 1st but disappeared off the face of the earth and the sender had to send a replacement via Royal Mail. Allegedly Evri were supposed to be delivering something to me this afternoon, so if I'm lucky I'll get it by Easter.

mondaytosunday · 07/03/2024 00:20

A courier put my daughter's prom dress in the bin! Looked for it for days before I looked inside - it was pure luck it was recycling getting collected that week! I mean what are those delivery people thinking??

TheNestedIf · 07/03/2024 01:08

You have my sympathy.

I'm currently trying to get a refund / replacement from an ebay seller after Evri dumped my parcel on a step in full view of a well trodden road in London and it then, unsurprisingly, went missing. In the photo Evri has taken as evidence of delivery, you can clearly see my secure, locked post box! 😖 To be fair to them, their delivery people in this area are usually better than that.

I’ve just found a wet and soggy Amazon parcel by the bin. No card left. Big garden and bin not where you would immediately notice it.

At the weekend Amazon left a parcel containing an Apple watch on top of our empty newspaper delivery bin, in full view of the gate. It was raining and we were in. They didn’t ring the bell so again no idea it was there until by chance, I happened to open the door

Royal Mail left my HRT in my recycling bin. They didn’t leave a card and it was emptied but the pharmacy replaced it for me.

PuttingDownRoots · 07/03/2024 06:20

Amaxon left our parcel in our neighbours bin. Not even the next door neighbour... it was down the road. Thankfully sent a photo so we walked down the road comparing photos of bins to fin the right one...

Complain.

GentleGentileschi · 07/03/2024 06:25

I had a fiasco with next with a lamp I wanted sold out everywhere else except next. Evri kept dumping it on our front lawn visible to the street. There is a methadone clinic round the corner. They sent 4 lamps via evri, all of which were dumped outside (even with instructions to only give to me and I was home), all were stolen. I gave up in the end and got a refund.

Next are used to having to pay refunds for evri. I guess overall their dirt cheap prices make up for the (not so) occasional loss.

HollyKnight · 07/03/2024 06:26

I hate them. I've had so many Vinted parcels go missing. "Herpes" used to be the worst, so I'm not surprised Evri are like this. They're shit no matter what name they go by.

crew2022 · 07/03/2024 06:30

I complained so much at our last address when Evri was called Hermes (and had cctv of the Hermes delivery driver hanging a parcel from our railings on a main road and driving off without knocking). They also used to leave an update saying due to an incident in the area they couldn't deliver. There never was an incident. Next changed our deliveries to DPD for about 6 months. No more complaints from me.

TerfTalking · 07/03/2024 06:36

Don’t Hermes take photos for POD? Our Hermes lady is a dream, our best delivery person. She won’t leave it if the garage door is locked, if it’s open she will. We’ve had her for years, her and her husband share the round AM/PM to manage school wraparound care.

Apparently Amazon handed my most recent parcel to me, according to an email they sent me. They didn't. I contacted Amazon via their very automated website and read that 'we can't do anything until a full 24 hours have passed as most people find their items that they have told have been delivered, either with a neighbour or nearby.'

I got a refund in the end.

They told me they couldn't deliver my exercise bike as the access was blocked. There is no way the access would have been blocked. I complained and as it was being sold by amazon marketplace, the seller got in touch with Everi and they admitted that they couldn't find the address so hadn't attempted to deliver it.

Because I wasn't going to be in when they actually attempted to deliver it, I asked for it to be left with a neighbour. They ignored that and left it in full view of any passer-by and the contents were shown on the box.

Tilllly · 07/03/2024 06:57

@GingersOwner26

Which Easter tho...?😂

Tilllly · 07/03/2024 07:01

Evri left a dress, I ordered by the gate. It was out of sight down the side of the house, but it was just in a brown paper bag, and it was pouring with rain.

It was clearly something fabric inside they must've known it would get soaked through

Thankfully, a neighbour spotted it and brought it in, knowing that it was a dress I was wearing to my son's wedding. ....

moonjump · 07/03/2024 07:16

It hasn't been successfully delivered to you, so next should replace it.

I've had something delivered to the front step on a main road that got stolen, and the company I bought from replaced it. Daughter had something put in her bin with no card to alert her, and that was refunded.

An amazon driver out a parcel of mine in the bin that got emptied too. Most my parcels end up just being left on the door step by then too.

its the amount they have to deliver so no care and attention is given.

I hate the bin as an option! Royal Mail delivered my new shoes and clothes into the garden and food bin last week 🤢
