I know I'm a idiot
When I moved into my house I had nothing
I got my appliances /sofa from littlewoods
I put them on buy now pay later but now I'm struggling.
I get £1,000 a month
£460 is rent £100 is gas /electric £90 council tax and I pay them £240
I'm left with £110 for food
It's killing me
I've asked if I can set up a payment plan they said no
I honestly don't know what to do
If I don't pay the full amount will they pass me to a debt collection agency ?

Sorry for anyone who responded
With stepchange -if littlewoods said no to me twice now ,my info will be the same
Why would they accept stepchange offer of payment ?
When it's the same?

Let me guess, you're still refusing to look for anything but a full time admin job despite the fact you could have some immediate start hours in hospitality by the weekend, and you're still letting your DC sit on their bums, barely work, and not contribute.

I'm not sure what anyone can say to you at this point.

daysmustgetbetter · 12/03/2024 12:31

@MooseOnTour I'm not explaining myself again
As stated I'm looking for a new full time job
It's not a overnight thing
This month I can't pay my full payment
I won't have a new job and get back by 12 days time
Your unhelpful reply really isn't needed
Thanks

You could afford it if you asked your adult children to contribute in a sensible manner.

daysmustgetbetter · 12/03/2024 12:44

@DreadPirateRobots full time hospitality jobs ? Really because the max here are 20 hour contracts to under 21s to pay the bare minimum

OP posts:
daysmustgetbetter · 12/03/2024 12:45

Also I said McDonald's wasn't for me and it isn't
I've applied for retail jobs including Tesco /asda over the weekend
Not just admin
I've also completed a online test for Ocado which is a call centre
So no I'm not just sticking to admin

The amount Stepchange recommend you pay (if anything) won't necessary be the same you've already offered. Stepchange will go through a process with you where they look at your income, outgoings and all debts, and then make a recommendation on the best way forward. They don't just ask how much you want to pay.
You can go to their website and complete the process online right now if you want to - Stepchange.org

DreadPirateRobots · 12/03/2024 12:47

You don't need a full time hospitality job. You just need some extra hours. And it doesn't have to be McDonalds. Although you could do a lot worse!

You aren't willing to help yourself, so no one else can either.

daysmustgetbetter · 12/03/2024 12:50

@MooseOnTour who is refusing to work ?
Why are you making your own narrative ?
I work ,I have a job
I am looking for full time role now after looking after my mum
What part of that isn't me wanting to work
Also McDonald's my area ,where are all the full time roles being handed up like smarties ?

With an attitude like yours, you will have the debt collectors on your doorstep one day.

daysmustgetbetter · 12/03/2024 12:51

@Melonportal Thankyou I'm going to go on their website now and complete it
Thankyou

... when you’re on a low income, the only way to pay for big purchases like a fridge or washing machine is to do it through a catalogue/loan/credit card which charges interest

Never heard of secondhand Trulyme?

Many of us managed perfectly well with it when we couldn't afford anything else, but then many of us didn't expect everything NOW

I needed a new gas cooker - desperately, it was 40ish years old and condemned. So to start off with we needed to find something asap. Our kitchen is very small, so cooker needed to be a certain size. Looked second hand, trying to find something the right size, at a sensible price (ie not only £50 less than new for a crappy cooker with all terrible reviews) when adding in the cost of getting it serviced to ensure safety ended up being more trouble than it was worth for next to no saving.

We were lucky in that we had some savings so didn't have to buy on credit. But when the cost of second hand is hardly any different to new, but you can get new on credit (plus have a warranty, you could buy second hand and it stops working in a month...) so you don't need the cash upfront and you need the appliance now, what choice do people have?

@MooseOnTour the website states part time because they have part time roles available -unless you moonlight as mystic Meg and know something that the website isn't stating
Thanks for your "advice "

Surely you can get a full time admin job? Even at NMW it would pay about £1750 pm, which would be far more than you're on now.

Plus your DC have to contribute towards their housing costs. If you weren't paying heating, water, electricity etc for a family sized house, you wouldn't struggling quite so much.

I'm full-time admin and I only take home £1500.

I do agree, though, that the kids should be contributing more.

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 12/03/2024 13:04

Why would part time be a problem anyway? You could do it alongside the admin work you enjoy until a full time admin role comes your way.

Seaside3 · 12/03/2024 13:08

Have you had a chat with your children? It seems they could help you? I've suggested it previously, it seems.important to be honest with them and teach them to pay bills etc

TheNeverEndingTale · 12/03/2024 13:08

You need to be looking at retail, hospitality and bar roles to work around your current job. Supermarkets, cinemas, coffee shops, warehouses etc. Do you drive? You could do delivery jobs.

You’re going to end up with a CCJ and debt collectors at your door and your credit history completely fucked if you don’t pull your finger out soon. I say this as someone who has just managed to claw themselves out of thousands of pounds worth of debt. You’re not in a position to say I don’t want that job. If this ends up in court you’re not going to be looked upon too kindly if you have the health to work full time hours and you’re choosing not to.

It’s great you’re looking for a full time job but that’s not currently landing on your lap. The above jobs are usually very flexible and you can work your shifts around your current office role until you find full time hours. I’d also be sitting my children down and asking them to contribute even £10 a week each to bills. You’re earning hardly anything, nowhere enough to support three adults. That £80 could go a long way.

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 12/03/2024 13:09

I have some sympathy for OP - it's three months since her mother died, it sounds like caring for her DM was difficult, possibly traumatic. Taking a customer facing job may not be possible right now - I struggled working in retail after DH was seriously ill and nearly died, there was no sympathy from my manager and I still had to smile and give a shit about complaints from customers of, for example, a button coming off a shirt, I just wanted to scream at them. It certainly didn't help my mental health.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 12/03/2024 13:11

Again Have you asked your DC?
This is the obvious solution and what stepchange will expect as they are not dependants
You'll end up with a CCJ if you don't sort this asap

CockSpadget · 12/03/2024 13:25

Littlewoods will listen to Stepchange as they have “clout”. There is a very high chance they would get the account and interest frozen, and negotiate affordable payments for you.
HOWEVER, they first will need full household income and expenditures, and will also question why your adult children aren’t contributing more.
it really is unacceptable that two household members are saving (and have savings) for luxuries, while another is not paying their debts.
