I know I'm a idiot
When I moved into my house I had nothing
I got my appliances /sofa from littlewoods
I put them on buy now pay later but now I'm struggling.
I get £1,000 a month
£460 is rent £100 is gas /electric £90 council tax and I pay them £240
I'm left with £110 for food
It's killing me
I've asked if I can set up a payment plan they said no
I honestly don't know what to do
If I don't pay the full amount will they pass me to a debt collection agency ?

I'd suggest maybe a visit to Citizen's Advice.

SpringtimeAtLast · 06/03/2024 11:53

How much is the minimum payment that you need to make?

Bournetilly · 06/03/2024 11:55

How much do you ow them?

MississippiAF · 06/03/2024 11:55

Can you pick up any more hours at work?

Mintytea11 · 06/03/2024 11:57

I have found Littlewoods very helpful when I struggled they let me lower my monthly payment and pay it off over a longer time.

FunLurker · 06/03/2024 12:00

How many of you live their?
How long have you left on debit
Can you get any help from anywhere, food bank?
I have no personal knowledge of debit agency but surely if your paying evening its £200, they can't do much, obviously don't do that until you find out

daysmustgetbetter · 06/03/2024 12:01

Well I owed them £2,000
But because I don't pay the buy now pay later back in time it's £4500
£2500 is just interest
My min payment is £240

It's just me who lives here and 2 kids

daysmustgetbetter · 06/03/2024 12:02

Without this £240 I would be fine

Why have you only got £1k income? Do you claim UC or any other benefits? What's your situation (kids, work, partner etc)?

Have you checked for entitlement to housing benefit, council tax benefit etc?

daysmustgetbetter · 06/03/2024 12:03

That's my income from my job
I don't claim UC as I'm not entitled
My children are over 18

daysmustgetbetter · 06/03/2024 12:05

I asked if I could pay £100 a month until I find myself a job with more hours-flat out refused me on live chat

Can you increase your hours? Or get a higher paid job?

Moier · 06/03/2024 12:06

If it goes to a CCJ it will be reduced to about £10 a month.. but you won't beable to get more credit.
Talk to Step change. They will speak to them on your behalf.. or go on Martin Lewis website.. loads of help on there.

MarchHatty · 06/03/2024 12:06

If your income is only £1k a month and no savings and you have two children you will definitely be entitled to UC. Definitely. Definitely. Apply again and get an advance payment.

Peekaboobo · 06/03/2024 12:06

OP, You can get help I think from citizens advice bureau who can write to them and ask them to suspend future interest being added on. They will then suggest a payment plan for you, one that you can afford.

Or you could speak to one of the debt charity companies, I've heard they are very good and will advocate for you.

You're not alone, get some help from a company.

TinyYellow · 06/03/2024 12:07

This is how people end up in poverty and then blame benefits and the government when the real problem is their own debt. I appreciate that you are owning your own mistake OP. I would go to citizens advice or national debt helpline and see what they advise.

If you don’t pay, then yes, your debt probably will be passed to a collection agency.

Limer · 06/03/2024 12:07

I'd worry that even if Littlewoods allowed you to reduce your repayments, they'd just add more interest and you'd be paying even more over a longer time period.

If your children live there and are over 18, what do they contribute to the household budget?

Can you or your children get a second job, e.g. evening or weekend?

MarchHatty · 06/03/2024 12:07

Just seen the children are adults - they need to help with £ while they are living with you.

SpringtimeAtLast · 06/03/2024 12:08

The interest is really high. I think it’s completely immoral for companies to do buy now pay later, when they know so many people can’t afford it

Beamur · 06/03/2024 12:08

Are your kids working? Surely they should be contributing to food and bills?

daysmustgetbetter · 06/03/2024 12:09

I am looking for a job with more hours
I'm currently working 25 hours
The only reason I'm not full time is because till last year I was looking after my late mum.
Obviously now I'm back to looking for full time work but not finding it easy
I'm using indeed and everything I apply for there's so many candidates

You are going to have to talk to stepchange asap.
When I was a single mum with no money I used to buy everything from junk shops (except mattresses) and then just save up for whatever I wanted because I knew I would never be able to pay back a credit card or loan.
If you are going to make purchases like this you need to get a 0 percent credit card.
I used to buy refurbished white goods too, never new.

Are your children contributing to the household?
