Can I get my job back?

This weekend (I'm not meant to work weekends) I ended up managing a small crisis for the company.

Throughout I tried to contact my boss and sent messages he didn't reply.

I did not have the authority to take the action needed. The company ended up losing several thousand pounds. On Monday I offered my resignation saying I felt it honourable.

To my surprise it was accepted.

Its a small business with no HR.

Looking for tips to leave things as positive as possible. Was immediately asked to leave having resigned.

Good luck with the new job, I hope you get it. You did a good thing and they're obviously shit bags.

Glad it's working out for you OP but when you get your new job please rethink your approach to work. Make sure you work within your job description and aren't going above and beyond where it isn't required/wanted.

Your loyalty and dedication to your role is good but looking/working beyond your remit can be seen as treading on other people's toes.

What happened is that I regularly check our systems out of hours for any anomalies. These are frequent. Everyone knows I do this even though its not a requirement.

If these are computer systems, anomaly detection is something that your IT team should have automated and have an on-call rota for dealing with. If they aren't computer systems, this still applies but it won't be the IT team's responsibility.

Don't work for somewhere that's so institutionally incompetent again. It's not worth the stress of working for cowboy outfits and, as you are finding now in your job search, they don't pay that well.

Wonderful news OP. Good things usually do come out of these situations. So I’m pleased to hear bigger and better things are on their way.

You remind me of me, you go above and beyond, do far beyond whatever is asked or expected but then almost offer yourself up as being at fault in the hope either they will admire your conscientiousness or respect your hard work.

Unfortunately not everyone appreciates people like us and actually we can slightly irritate people with our perceived over the top hard work. I found this hard to believe for years but after comments from
colleagues I’ve come to realise it.

My advice would be to use this opportunity to reevaluate your career. Still be you and work hard but keep a bit of yourself back. You said why not check over the weekend if I can help? Colleagues will feel bad because they don’t do this and bosses won’t value you enough because you give your time away so freely. Keeping a bit of yourself back, want them to want more of you and protecting your free time could actually get you more respect and stop anyone from
taking you for granted in future.
