If your kitchen window faces a garden would you put a blind in it?

My garden is not overlooked. We have not had anything in the large window since we bought the house. The natural light does not bother in any way either.

I have curtains in my living room to keep the heat in, and blinds mounted on all my windows from the previous owner, most of which have never been used (eg. I use my bedroom ones in summer to keep it dark a bit longer, and my sons uses theirs so their bedrooms can be a deep dark pit all the time, but the only thing stopping me taking them down is I don't have the paint to patch up after!

Our kitchen window over the sink is south facing, and the sun can be blinding - especially in winter when its low. So we have a blind

We have no blinds in our kitchen. The garden isn’t really overlooked so I’m happy not to have them- one less thing to clean!

Redglitter · 26/02/2024 14:03

Absolutely. Looking out into the dark gives me the heeby jeebies

Ours is like this and not overlooked in any way, I don’t use the blind in fact we have fairy lights round the window. MIL whenever she comes is appalled by this however and shuts it. She lives alone and once had a peeping tom in her street though so I understand.

Yes I hate bare windows.

Revelatio · 26/02/2024 14:09

Yes, we have a south facing garden so it’s essential as I sometimes work from the kitchen if I can’t be arsed to go up to the office. Also it feels cosier at night.

Took mine down not long after moving in but
... the garden is relatively secure (yous have to climb through 3 other gardens to get in) so other than the hedgehog I'm not worried about something out there at night
... it has tall tress so not overlooked, but the window doesn't get alot of sun so the old blinds were blocking some like even when fully opened)
...And it's just a kitchen (not kitchen/diner) and doesn't have a sofa so we don't really hang out in there much in the evening other than to cook

CandyCaneLane0 · 26/02/2024 16:12

Yes I have a day and night blind on mine

I’m not overlooked but I have blinds

Yes I’m not over looked either, and look out over a field. I also went a few years without as I couldn’t decide what I wished elsewhere in the house. I then went for shutter blinds in the kitchen. It just makes the kitchen look much more finished, and I do always shut them at night, it just feels cosier.

we also removed all our curtains and blinds when we moved in, the day we moved in, as they were decades old. Dusty and sun faded. And they smelled fusty.

I replaced the bedrooms immediately, so we could sleep, but I then couldn’t work out what I wanted everywhere else, as I don’t like curtains, and ended up putting silk or velvet Roman blinds throughout. Honestly I love them and am glad I waited to be sure.

Different colours in different rooms, bronze, teal, green, pale pink etc, annd then the heavy shutter blinds in the kitchen, and what a difference it makes from the cold bare window at night.

id recommend doing it. But in the kitchen you need something you can wipe down.

Only to block the blinding sun but as that isn't an issue for you I wouldn't bother
