If your kitchen window faces a garden would you put a blind in it?

My garden is not overlooked. We have not had anything in the large window since we bought the house. The natural light does not bother in any way either.

No, we don’t. Our neighbours can probably look in from one of their upstairs rooms if they want too but don’t suppose they do.

GatherlyGal · 26/02/2024 12:50

We've just taken out a window and put big sliders in but I'm not bothered about blinds.

The window that was there had blinds and we never ever used them.

Radiatorvalves · 26/02/2024 12:50

No. Been here years. No blind in kitchen window or glass doors.

Octavia64 · 26/02/2024 12:51

Just about to take it out.

(Moved a few months ago)

susiedaisy1912 · 26/02/2024 12:51

Yes because on a winters night it will reflect the cold away from the room and also I've watched too many horror films. 😁

Randomsabreur · 26/02/2024 12:52

Nope, unless the sun was in an awkward angle at meal/food prep times which you've said doesn't apply. I'd prefer not to have blinds in the kitchen as they acquire smells from cooking but the sun hits the only place we can put the table and is dazzling at dinner time in summer so blinds it is.

Janehasamane · 26/02/2024 12:52

Yes, and I shut the blinds at night, I don’t like bare windows or the bleakness of an undressed window.

Crunchingleaf · 26/02/2024 12:52

So I do have a blind on kitchen window.Absolutely no one can look in our kitchen window. I use it sometimes when I am being blinded by the sun.

Sunnnybunny72 · 26/02/2024 12:53

Ours faces open fields and yes, we have a blind I just put down at nighttime.
Too spooky staring out into the pitch darkness!

TheDowagerDoughnut · 26/02/2024 12:54

Yeah, I would. The room can feel a bit cold/undressed in the winter with just a blank dark window,

RhubarbGinForTheWin · 26/02/2024 12:55

I have a blind at mine, but only because the sun beams in, blinding me.
We never move it from it's half down position for that reason.

SgtJuneAckland · 26/02/2024 12:55

We have a blind in a kitchen overlooking our garden and it has never been pulled down, getting the kitchen done this year and I won't be putting another up

GoodVibesHere · 26/02/2024 12:56

Yes I find it cosier at night and on the dark winter mornings. It also helps keep the sun off, during our usual one week of hot summer.

Silverbirchtwo · 26/02/2024 12:58

We have curtains in the kitchen and living room, just to dress the windows we hardly ever close them as the garden is not over looked.

VenusClapTrap · 26/02/2024 12:58

No. Blinds in kitchens can get a bit greasy.

Lovingthegrungerevival · 26/02/2024 13:01

No. Badgers and foxes come for their food in the evening and I love seeing them peeking inside.

This 😜
I have blinds and cafe curtains, I shut the blinds at night, I don't like looking out into the dark, too spooky!
I have two 6' wide windows so get plenty of light when the blinds are open

SomersetTart · 26/02/2024 13:11

My mum always had blinds because she was afraid of being shot through the windows. She lived in a peaceful suburb and wasn't involved in any kind of gangland activity or in a witness protection scheme.

She died aged 75 of a stroke, not from being shot through her window.

DSD9472 · 26/02/2024 13:18

We aren't overlooked, day to day. My neighbour and her gardener seem to be constantly up a ladder trimming 'things' and peering over the fence. They also have a window cleaning who can look in. I like the option of the blind for these occasions, but if they aren't applicable to you, then no, I wouldn't bother with one.

Mazuslongtoenail · 26/02/2024 13:23

We don’t have any curtains or blinds in the kitchen or the lounge.

Hoglet70 · 26/02/2024 13:31

Yep we have blinds. There are lots of trees in the garden and it gives me the creeps when it's dark.

Us too, nothing but sheep, yet I still need the blind in case someone is watching me from the garden 😅

Tiddlywinks63 · 26/02/2024 13:51

My back window in the kitchen doesn’t have a blind, the two side windows do because they look along the road whereas the back one overlooks the garden and impenetrable woodland.

NewYearResolutions · 26/02/2024 13:52

No. My kitchen faces the back garden and I have no blinds.

This is the only reason we have one in our kitchen, the sun hit the kitchen when we are cooking dinner in the summer and it is blinding. Otherwise we wouldn't bother.
