I'm letting the house cleaning slip again . It's not as bad as it used to be. But it's still a bit shit and grubby.

My neighbour locked herself out the other day I couldn't even let her in because the house was a mess.

I have been so drained and tired again recently. My eyes fill heavy all the time and I can't shake that just woken up feeling of all day. I'm breathless again as well . And it's actually all my own fault I'm meant to be taking folic acid for low iron . I was meant to take it for 3 months then get rechecked bloods done. Did I do it nope took some. Then started forgetting here and there then the gap gew and then I stopped . Such a simple thing and I fuck it up. I was in chemist a couple of days ago . I asked for 5mg folic acid. They only do that on prescription. So what do I do . Leave it instead of getting the 4mg wtf.

So basically my house is a mess because I didn't stick to taking 1 pill a day . Could even stick to that even though the knock on effect is shit .

Hey hey! It's OK! You've identified the problem. Now, let's think of a solution. Would setting a daily alarm help?

midgetastic · 25/02/2024 09:40

Step 1 - where is the nearest open chemist ? Go there today

Get some orange juice to go with the tablets

Step 2 put a reminder on your phone to take your iron

I think I might even have some stuffed in a drawer. I will look in a min. I even had a strip of them in my coat pocket . And my dressing gown. Both wear every day and I still fucked it up

Create a routine , take pill and walk from one room to another tidying up anything out of place and out in a basket take back upstairs. You don't need to clean every day other than wipe kitchen and bathroom sinks. Run a hoover downstairs if needs be, Put bins out regularly and used mugs in kitchen. It really can't have got so messy a neighbour could not come in in that short a time. Are you overthinking it? Kids' toys is fine,

Can your doctor do another prescription for you ?

Do you take any other tablets ? I'm on a lot of tablets and I use one of those tablet organisers with the days of the week and morn, afternoon, evening, night printed on them, it's really handy to fill it up and leave in the kitchen beside the kettle so I don't forget. If it's just one tablet you're on you can get an organiser with just one slot per day for the week.

You've done so much over the last few weeks, feel proud of that. You've tackled huge jobs and achieved a lot. You've had a bilp with other things going on in your life so don't be hard on yourself for slipping back a little .

LIZS · 25/02/2024 10:28

I guess you cannot leave them out due to the dc being able to access.

I literally just take the one tablet . It is me just being a prick. It doesn't matter if they are in a box you mentioned or in the blister pack. I still forget. I could even see the pack and think oh I take that in a min then I don't. There's no real reason for me not to. I just found a strip of them so I have some still and yeah I can probably phone gp.

I just saw this : might explain a few things. I never realised it can effect moods and psychological stuff . It might be why I think how I do and why I'm.not always logic 🤔

Vitamin B12 and folate perform several important functions in the body, including keeping the nervous system healthy.
A deficiency in either of these vitamins can cause a wide range of problems, including:

  • extreme tiredness
  • a lack of energy
  • pins and needles
  • a sore and red tongue
  • mouth ulcers
  • muscle weakness
  • problems with your vision
  • psychological problems, which can range from mild depression or anxiety to confusion and dementia
  • problems with memory, understanding and judgement

Pins and needles

Read about pins and needles (paraesthesia), a pricking, burning, tingling or numbing sensation that's usually felt in the arms, legs, hands or feet.

You need to go to the GP and get mental health help.

I really mean that nicely.

I won't dismiss what you said completely. But I would like to try the folic acid thing first ( properly) . It says lack of folic acid can effect mental heath side of things . Which I had not realised.

Well take them everyday then.

There comes a point in your adult life where you have to take responsibility and stop blaming everything else and deal with something properly.
If you can't do that by yourself, you need some sort of carer or support worker to remind you to take a tablet everyday.
Or a cleaner.

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 25/02/2024 11:21

I was just about to say that low iron levels can affect your memory which will make it harder for you to remember to take a tablet.

Some things that might help:

Set an alarm on your phone to go off after you wake up but before you leave the house.

Post it note by the front door or next to the sink in the bathroom.

Make it part of your routine so for example when you get up you go for a wee, then you put the kettle on, then you let the dog out, then you take your tablet as the tea brews (although rubbish example really as tea can reduce the effectiveness of the iron but for me my day doesn’t start until after that first cup!).

maslinpan · 25/02/2024 11:21

What is the first thing you do, every single day? If it's make a cup of tea, keep the folic acid next to the tea bags. If you clean your teeth before anything else, they should go next to the toothbrush so it becomes an automatic habit you don't have to think about.

PeggySooo · 25/02/2024 11:26

I had very low folic acid last year and I was so bad with it that I thought I had MS. I had an mri etc because it was giving me one sided weakness, pins and needles, etc.

I know it's easier said than done, but just try your best. Don't beat yourself up if it's not every day you take it. Every other day or few days is better than nothing. I kept forgetting it too (I also have adhd and autism) but I just persisted when I remembered until they were all gone. It took me longer to get better but I did. I keep my tablets next to the kitchen sink which I go to every morning, so I see them. I don't always remember them but I put lots of alarms on my phone to help me too.

I still feel tired all day every day and I still let my house get on top of me, but antidepressants have helped with that. I've gone from doing pretty much nothing but sleep to keeping a fairly reasonable house.

Has the op given more information on their mental health elsewhere?

I'm very tunnle vision in the morning. I wake up. Go up stairs wake dd. Go to bottom floor let the dogs out. Make dd lunch whilst kind of staring into space. The boys then come down and then im helping then get ready and sorted. We then leave at 7.30 am. There is no reason I can't find 10 seconds to take a tablet. I mean I have also done things like put a strip in my coat pocket and My dressing gown which I put my hand in the pocket several times a day.

It's just my pure prickness. There's no excuse for it . I mean I did not fully realise the knock on effect . Which I have caused myself by not taking a poxy tablet ffs

OP posts:
dsan · 25/02/2024 11:39

@Shamefullhouse does your DD have a lunch box? Can you put the tablets on or inside that? I found that I would only take my daily tablet if it was physically in my way and I had to move it, so rather than it being beside the kettle I had to put it on top of the coffee jar - I realise that sounds crazy but it worked for me.

Sort off. I have never agreed that I have mental health issues. But I think I do show some symptoms. But I also had not realised that the lack of iron /folic acid can be a reason for mental Health side of things. Which is why I Need to stop being stupid and just sort it.

I'm definitely going to try harder. It's silly because it's such a simple thing that can be a big help. And obviously it's only me that can do it.

I'm glad your feeling better. 💐

The plumber has to check the upstairs radiators the other day, I was utterly utterly mortified. We have folded clothes piles everywhere, rubbish built up, bin bags of clothes waiting to go to the charity shop, oh God I shudder in horror just to remember it. I had to explain we have no storage at the moment (true), but a lot of it is also down to how hard I find it some days (I also have folic acid deficiency health issues)

RandomMess · 25/02/2024 11:46

You can set medication alerts on your phone, you could set it for 2 different times of day that would usually coincide with a good time to take them.

Another useful tip is to use market pen and put the 1st letter of the day of the week on the silver but at the back it means you can see at a glance if you have actually taken todays.

Dance54 · 25/02/2024 11:48

Don’t be hard on yourself OP. Next time you get into a spiral tell yourself you will do something - five minutes clearing a shelf or similar and it will get better.

Have you had your vitamin D checked?

I've spent around 8 months feeling exhausted. Days out have left me needing at least 24 hours to recover.

My house got so bad I couldnt have visitors. I'd been out with my sister for the day, she needed a wee after dropping me home and I couldnt let her in my house I was so ashamed.

In the end, my mum and my sister forced me to accept their help to sort the house out and I'm so glad they did because I've been keeping on top of it for the last few weeks, it's not show home but it's just lived in now instead of horrifically messy. After that I went to the GP, they offered blood tests and turns out I have really low vitamin d which apparently can make you feel exhausted

Also - I was diagnosed with ADHD last year and some of the things you've said

  • Not being able to take medicine every day - it was 10 days ago they put the prescription in the pharmacy, it's a 3 minute walk from my house and I still havnt been able to bring myself to go and get it

I know what I need to do it's the doing it part

I know what I need to do. And my brain will shout and scream at me constantly to get it done. Will I be able to get up and do it though? Unlikely and not often.

My memory is terrible to and if I dont do somthing instantly then it probably wont get done for a while

I have such good intentions with everything but unless I'm on top form and feeling great I just cannot bring myself to do half of it

I'd have a read up of adult women ADHD because just from your comments I think you have it
