Vinted buyer trying it on ?

ditismooi · 24/02/2024 16:47

my spidey senses told me it was a dodgy buyer from the beginning . Endless haggling over a week or so They’ve received the item today and said it was fake . It isn’t . The receipt from the outlet is in the listing. I made sure to package it well and photograph on dispatch . The communication was patchy and the buyer had poor English ( fair enough ) no please or thanks etc .

When pressed for specifics on the reasons they thought it was fake they sent a cut and paste type answer off the internet which made no sense and then asked me what I buy it for ? ( paid for it I think they meant ) I’ve told them to return it to cut out fuss . The auto reply Vinted says to wait for tracking etc . Any experienced vinted sellers out there? Thoughts ? I think they won’t make the five day return deadline and were trying it on in the hope of a refund.

My only run in with Vinted was as a buyer and they were absolutely hopeless. My impression was that they generally side with the seller, so you stand more hope of keeping your money as a seller than eBay for sure.

£30 - handful of reviews which were good spanning over a year . A more recent one this week since the sale from a seller saying to avoid . Suspect they are a student or similar as I have the address .

It was genuinely something from a couple of years ago that didn’t fit and I didn’t return ( boxed up in a house move shortly after and forgotten about . ) I’m just clearing out and using Vinted that way

Trust your instincts op. I cancelled a sale as they wanted it alot cheaper then purchased the item for the asking price then started to ask about measurements and more pictures despite it all been fully listed on the post, I had to double check they actually wanted the item I the end I cancelled the sell. It was clear they were a 100percent.

No I understand fiddlemeg what you meant . No offence taken . It was in original packaging box with qr codes and an unusual size so unlikely to be a fake from a sellers point of view but wondered if the buyer was hoping for a refund and to keep it too and if this is a common tactic ?

Has the buyer requested a return?
Have you accepted the return?

If you have accepted the return then Vinted rules state that you have to complete the return and issue a refund.

But if you are sure you sold the item legitimately and the buyer is trying it on, then I would refuse the return on the grounds they bought it as stated in the advert.

If you accept a return, and you think they are dodgy, there's a chance they will return a fake version of your item. I would try and avoid a return if I were you.

I sold a lovely coat for £50. The buyer claimed there was a fault with the zip so I accepted the return at my own cost. When it arrived it was obvious they had broken the zip. It definitely was not broken when I sold it. I sent before and after pictures to Vinted but they said because I had accepted the return there was nothing they could do. If it were to happen again and I was sure I was in the right, I wouldn't accept the return.

Thanks all - yes I’ve accepted a return at their cost. the money just sits in Vinted atm . But no tracking yet . They might have a bit of a job finding an exact fake version to swap in this particular size ( trainers )so I’m not too concerned that they will do that. It’s like a low end price point trainer style of a popular sports brand in an unusual size .

Problem is they may return fames to you and then you've lost out anyway.

ditismooi · 24/02/2024 17:43

Interesting I’ll update on the outcome or if they return anything . It’s irritating more than thing else . It was oh charity shop this or stick it on Vinted and see if it makes a few bob type decision .

Yes it is a funny one if they return at their cost . The listing had heaps of detailed pics ,close ups and because of the brand Vinted had to verify it first before publication ( however they do that ?! ) I wondered if it was a case of changing their mind and trying it on . As it was first thing this am and no tracking has appeared yet they don’t seem in a hurry to get their money back . I would be sealing it back up pronto myself if in their position and heading back down the shop . Hey ho . The shots of what they thought was fake about the item in The return request were just the same kind of shots I’d taken of the item for the listing for example no logo on the sole was one complaint … but they don’t have a logo on the bottom sole and my pictures show that ..

Hi I sold my first item on vinted and got a notification to click on link to viintedsold - am assuming that's a scam?

Causewerethespecialtwo · 23/03/2024 15:36

Hi @ditismooi what happened in the end, did they return the item?

I’m new to selling on Vinted - I sold a pair of designer shoes this week. They are 100% authentic (I bought them new in the store) but the buyer has just messaged today to say they are fakes! They absolutely are not and I’ve paid for return postage so that I can get them back. I’m now panicking that this could be some kind of scam and they are going to switch the shoes, keep mine and send me back fakes.

ditismooi · 25/03/2024 13:12

Hi - they did return them at their cost but not in the original excellent packaging grr but very shabbily ! I filmed opening the return . However, they did survive and had not been damaged - I relisted , took a lot more detailed pics and resold the item making it clear that there were lots of pics because it was genuine and no returns if they didn’t fit . I never got into a long convo with the buyer, kept it totally business like - my Vinted ID pic is anonymous and gender neutral so I don’t get “ hunned” or endless sob stories . Not sure if it was a scam in the end or the fact I had the receipt , the buyer realised they weren’t going to get anywhere with the “ they are fake “ excuse and cut their losses . I realised they don’t realise how Vinted works and a lot people don’t realise it’s not a shop and you just have to take a punt if you buy something . As a seller I have learnt quickly now you are dealing with the general public so plenty out there are pretty flakey , unreliable or weird !

Thanks for replying, I’m glad you got them back in the end. That’s a really good idea to film opening the packaging - if they have switched my genuine shoes for fakes then it might help to prove it. They are in transit back to me, so we shall see soon! 🤞🏼
Lesson learnt - I won’t sell anything high value on Vinted again.

ditismooi · 25/03/2024 19:23

I hope you get them back . On a lighter note The man in the corner shop was most amused as I juggled my phone filming and the parcel literally in the shop ! For the most expensive stuff I have photographed the packing and sent a photo of the item with the label on as a courtesy message of it’s on it way. I’ve read some “vinties” even film the packing ! Good luck !

They arrived back today phewwww. Although the Yodel delivery person threw them over the back fence and left them out in the rain (shoes that cost me $800 new!) And thankfully there has been no switch, it’s the original shoes I’ve got back.
No idea what happened if I’m honest - I posted so many close up photos showing every detail of the shoes, the person bought them for the bargain price of £99 and then when they received them suddenly decided that they were absolutely fakes and I got a long email of reasons why they thought they were fakes 🤷🏼‍♀️ but they clearly have no idea what they are talking about! Just glad to get them back.
