Vinted buyer trying it on ?

my spidey senses told me it was a dodgy buyer from the beginning . Endless haggling over a week or so They’ve received the item today and said it was fake . It isn’t . The receipt from the outlet is in the listing. I made sure to package it well and photograph on dispatch . The communication was patchy and the buyer had poor English ( fair enough ) no please or thanks etc .

When pressed for specifics on the reasons they thought it was fake they sent a cut and paste type answer off the internet which made no sense and then asked me what I buy it for ? ( paid for it I think they meant ) I’ve told them to return it to cut out fuss . The auto reply Vinted says to wait for tracking etc . Any experienced vinted sellers out there? Thoughts ? I think they won’t make the five day return deadline and were trying it on in the hope of a refund.

That’s good news ! Yup I think “ it’s fake “ is just a way for buyers to chance a return when they don’t fit , change their mind and get buyers remorse and decide they want money back that they didn’t have to spend in the first place.

Interesting. I've read enough here to know Vinted is the Wild West and a significant number of buyers treat you like a shop - to be fair, I'm quite suspicious some accounts are actually pretending to be private sellers, particularly those with huge amounts of unworn clothes from one brand in numerous sizes.

Anyway, I had a potential buyer for a wedding dress I never wore. Their messages were borderline rude, lots of questions that were answered in the listing already. A real sense they were 'kicking the tyres' or retail negging. She offered a low figure which I refused then she paid for it at asking price but I just didn't get a good feeling at all and looked at her reviews which were leaning towards negative and automated. I cancelled the sale. It was too large an amount of money to risk.

Yes that’s a good point, I’m new to Vinted so still learning the ropes! They probably didn’t fit or they changed their mind….. and thought there is more chance of me panicking and accepting a return/refund if they say they are fake, rather than they didn’t fit! Will definitely be more cautious selling stuff going forwards.

I had this recently sold a leather handbag of my mums - it was in good secondhand used condition - I described it as ‘good’ just to be safe and ‘vintage’ - photographed it (there were no marks on it but I didnt say this in the listing) put on sale at £3 so barely worth listing - buyer receives it and says it is ‘clearly more marked and scratched than in the pictures.’ The series of photographs were taken when I listed it and reflected the very good used condition with no marks or scratches - I think the buyer expected new goods - she messaged saying she wasn’t happy - I offered a refund (just because I am kind) but then she didnt press the ‘not as described’ button to say there was an issue (maybe because it clearly was as described) - she then contacted me asking how she should return it! Errrrrrr ….she obv wanted me to pay which I wouldn’t do as accurately described. so Vinted released the money to me - buyer then gave me a bad review. Wish I’d just passed it onto a charity shop. Also at the same time sold another two handbags of my mums for £10 with pen marks on the lining (all pictured and described) both buyers v happy. It can be tricky!

I advertised some DM's as my first sell on Vinted. They were absolutely genuine- I photographed everything, soles etc. Vinted came back and advised they thought they were fake and not only refused to list them but have kept them 'on hold' for 6 months! What's that all about? I sold them the next week on Ebay.
