Wanted to be a Musical Theatre Actress, am an Operations director for a popular Restaurant Chain!

Growing up I remember wanting to be a vet, teacher, soldier, translator or work for the Foreign office. I did teach for a couple of years but I hated it, and translation is pretty much a dying profession due to AI.

Wanted to be a vet, am a vet.

Whenever I have this conversation in real life someone ALWAYS says to me ‘I wanted to be a vet, but then I could never put animals to sleep’…😔

Wanted to be a lawyer. I'm a ships navigator.

Was a singer for a bit, then when had kids was a cake maker.

Now am training to be a singing teacher 😍 so happy ⭐️

There were quite a few jobs I wanted as a child. The ones I remember are Social Worker, Midwife and Veterinary Nurse. I wasn’t able to pursue any of those things for various reasons. I am a qualified primary school teacher but it’s really not for me and I doubt I will go back to it if/when I return to work (I’m currently on maternity leave). The main thing I wanted to be as a child was a mother and I am one now so there’s that.

I’m a project manager in an academic setting, although I write the occasional short story.

I wanted to be a doctor. Now I work in intelligence. Didn’t have the attention span for medicine, and thankfully this allows me to go down endless rabbitholes.

Wanted to be a doctor. Wasn't good enough at chemistry for that.

Went to uni to study geography and became a teacher. After 20 years became disabled and am now retraining as a counsellor.

Married a doctor though!

I wanted to be a rugby player and sometime with maths. I was a professional player (too old now!) and I’m an actuary, so that fits too.

I wanted to be a Hotel Manager, had a course lined up for leaving school but was offered a job unexpectedly in the meantime. Currently I'm a Store Advisor (ie shop assistant!) and MDS at school. Have been a Clerical Assistant, Legal and Medical Secretary inbetween.

Wanted to be an airline pilot and got my private license and was almost sorted on sponsorship to train with an airline.

Lost the sight in one eye, so that all ended.

Am an IT Consultant, but still love planes.

I wanted to be a mounted police officer too (I can ride) and I now work in marketing as well! I didn't appreciate that they bring the mounted division out for civil unrest, etc. I just thought I'd be riding and looking after people. Ah the naivety of youth!

I wanted to be a marine biologist , a Vet or a Wren. I became a Veterinary Nurse.
I also wanted to be a grey shire horse called Nigel. My dog was called Nigel but he wasn't Grey.

I did work with horses, had to stop due to a riding accident.

I wanted to be like everything when I was a kid. An actress, an ice skater, a marine biologist, a teacher, an artist. I am currently working in FE in an administrative role and work one day a week for a charity. When I look at this it was clear I needed a portfolio career - and clearly I still do 😆

That's such a shame. I adore planes. My brother is an aeroplane performance engineer. He made me a calendar this year of all the planes he has taken pictures of during the year. February is the Emirates A380 😁😁😁😁✈️✈️✈️
