Anyone in Plymouth?

Bit scary, isn't it. I'm outside the 'zone ' on St Levens rd. Does anyone else live close?

I’m the other side of the city. Really feel
for Keyham being in the spotlight again. I hope everyone in the exclusion zone is getting through the disruption and worry. Really feel for any elderly and people with SN or mobility problems.

MagentaRocks · 23/02/2024 13:00

I’m outside the zone but work for emergency services so affected at work. Glad they are transporting it rather than detonating it in situ.

Megapint · 23/02/2024 13:02

I feel the same. Not an easy thing for some to just up and leave their homes. Sounds like the poor maid only just moved into her house. Hopefully, they can get the bomb moved safely.

Thank god they can move it. Look at the state of Exeter after the last big detonation in situ. Hope we can see the finally explosion on camera out past the breakwater!

Unfortunately a lot of bloody idiots around (the Freeman of the Land and no one tells me what to do types) - hope they keep away while the convoy are on the move.

Konfetka · 23/02/2024 13:06

Send the bill to Germany.

SorrelForbes · 23/02/2024 13:07

I used to live in Lorrimore Avenue (off St Levans Rd) so watching with interest. It must be so worrying for the residents inside the zone. I remember the big gas explosion (around 1995?) just across the other side of St L Road and that was scary enough!

Send the bill to Germany.

Then they can send their bills back to us too. Plenty of the Allied bombs are dug up in similar circumstances in Germany.

By that reasoning, Russia deserves to be recompensed by Ukraine for attacks on Russian territory.

Looks like everyone has gone to the Avondale for a pint. Thank goodness the bar maids aren't top less anymore.

Can you imagine driving that lorry?

BrownSauceOnBeans · 23/02/2024 15:17

I did wonder if they’d decided to detonate it at sea given the absolute mess they made of the Exeter detonation.

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 23/02/2024 15:21

I'm on the other side of the city, it must be nerve wracking being involved in the convoy. My son's school is not far from the exclusion zone so I'm hoping the buses back this way won't be badly affected, I'm just getting prepared to pick him up if needs be. I really feel for those who've been evacuated, I hope they can get back home very soon.

RobinHumphries · 23/02/2024 16:15

They didn’t make a mess of the Exeter bomb. The Exeter bomb was bigger for starters and luckily discovered on a building site so a lesser build up area. It’s a huge risk to move the bomb - it’s going to be very unstable and think of all the pot holes…

Lol! they wont be in the pub, that is part of the exclusion zone as the lorry makes its way to Torpoint.

House is 1 door down from original 309m exclusion zone, not sure how they worked out 309m though! probably a hefty margin of safety.

Everyone has been pretty good, can't blame people (very few) for staying put if beyond 200m, either elderly or with pets or still have the bomb shelter in the garden

Rumour is they deactivated the fuse using steam of all things, the risk is supposed to be less now.....

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/02/2024 16:29

I saw the post on ITV west country's Facebook page. I totally misread the post and thought it was happening in Keynsham (near Bristol) where I live!

After a slow start, we dropped a lot more ordnance on them than they dropped on us!
Would be interesting to know the % of UXB's on each side (rather than just the number).

Netball01 · 23/02/2024 17:01

I don’t live in Plymouth but have been following the news & am keeping everything crossed that they transport it safely.

I really wouldn’t want to be part of the convoy - I’m guessing they must feel the risk of it exploding is minimal?

edited to fix a typo

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 23/02/2024 17:03

One of my dc is nearby but not as bothered as I am!

Libre2 · 23/02/2024 17:05

Yes feeling v sorry for poor Keyham again. I am amazed that they gave the entire route out to the whole world - I would have thought that was a terrorist's dream scenario. Also, that there will be a load of dickheads wanting to watch!

Konfetka · 23/02/2024 13:17

By your reasoning Ukraine should get recompense from Russia for invading their country

NCForQuestions · 23/02/2024 17:07

There are several hundred police and military personnel standing in the streets - no terrorist is getting in for many hundreds of metres around the area.

Soberthoughts · 23/02/2024 19:20

The mobile alert came through while I was driving and at first glance all I saw was severe alert and bomb and my heart flipped! All the other drivers must have done the same as the traffic suddenly slowed. Well done to those brave people that got it out safely.

BrownSauceOnBeans · 23/02/2024 15:17

I did wonder if they’d decided to detonate it at sea given the absolute mess they made of the Exeter detonation.

I know someone whose home was very significantly impacted by that (and it had a huge impact on my work, as well) so I'm genuinely pleased as well as wryly amused that the approach for Plymouth was basically 'chuck it in the sea'

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/02/2024 19:29

There was a big one dug up near here (outer SW London) a year or so ago. Quite a few people evacuated. IIRC they did a controlled explosion on site. We’re a couple of miles away but dh heard it.
