Do all teenage boys dress the same in your area

Firstly this is not a personal dig at any child. I only have dds. Also there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the clothes I describe as in they are neither offensive nor inappropriate.

I live in the south west in a city. All the teenage boys I see out and about dress the same. They wear matching tracksuits mainly in only black, navy, dark grey or v occasionally sort of beige. They wear black puffa coats usually north face. They wear air force ones mostly or v similar looking trainers.

I haven't seen a teenage boy deviate from this in a few years now. No jeans, no colours unless it's a football strip, no dms or even converse.

They all have v similar haircuts too shirt on the sides and longer on the top with a kind of side floppy fringe.

There are some themes with the girls - baggy 90's clothes but it's nothing like as uniform as the boys.

I know fitting in with trends is a teen thing - I was one but can't help feeling the 2020's is more conformist than ever.

A friends ds who is about 17 told us he occasionally wears a t shirt to school with anime stuff he likes on it. He is told by his peers this is really 'out there' for style. He feels weird about it.

My nephews came down from the midlands at half term. They are also dressed like this. They are year 6,8 and 12.

Is this a down here thing or is rest of uk like this?

Not sure why you've quoted me @PeridotSparkle as I completely agree! Nothing wrong with tracksuits - I live in my gym wear 🤷‍♀️

I was responding to this....

"You choose how your kid dresses and set good examples"

It's in the post I quoted 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nope not here. DS14 loves jeans, new balance trainers or timberland boots, Hollister t shirts and hoodies but we are from Manchester and we tend to set trends up here, not follow them Grin

Agreed!
Then they stink of Lynx Africa - for the love of God WHY are they still allowed to make that foul smelling product?!! 🤢🤢🤢

Do they? I used to wear it!

Same for DS15: skinny Levi's, Timberland boots, Tommy Hilfiger tops, and a pale blue Arc'teryx coat (makes him easy to spot in a crowd of black coats)

His rules are: no text/designs/large logos, no puffas, no black

His only tracksuit is for PE

HavanaCigar · 18/02/2024 16:53

Yes!
Hair perms, balaclavas, "Hood Rich" clothing, Nike. One hand down the trousers.

Not here, my 13yr old likes proper fragrances Paco Rabanne and Dior Savage, as do most of his friends

L'Oréal/michum etc for his pits though.

Clothes its all black stone island, CP company & Nike. On his feet are Nike 95s. He asked for a Burberry scarf recently, which were popular when I was his age so that trend is coming back round!

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 18/02/2024 17:28

Stone Island? 😬

pastypirate · 18/02/2024 17:31

All the cringe brands are back, it's very discombobulating at times.

Nitesaredrawinin · 18/02/2024 18:51

Yep all the same, black Nike tracksuits navy and black Mercier tracksuits, Nike trainers or socks and sliders ( basically sandals and socks) I think this was a Grealish trend. Oh and the mid skin fade with floppy fringe. Shame they all act like sheep, you darent be the odd one out these days.

Once they get to sixth form it changes. Although mine has always been a no logo kinda chap

That's what parents say about every generation though. There will be kids who are individual out there. When I was a teen parents would have been saying these things about Adidas popper bottoms, Sweater Shop jumpers and curtains!

Stone Island? 😬

Why the face? Stone island is very popular here, from 10yr old boys through to grown men. It's not cheap either! Around £300 for a jumper or £160 a t-shirt.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 18/02/2024 20:10

Sorry, in Leeds (and the North?) Stone Island is the brand of football hooligans. You see Stone Island and you avoid.

ConsuelaHammock · 18/02/2024 20:31

My son won’t wear tracksuit bottoms anymore. They are purely for the townies apparently. He wears blue jeans and dealer boots. He would LIKE to wear Ralph Lauren. He can wait until he’s buying it himself!

mummyof2boys30 · 18/02/2024 20:46

Yip this is my DS14 uniform too 🙈 apart from the hair. Tho he wouldnt be seen out of the house without his cap

ConsuelaHammock · 18/02/2024 20:56

Do people really spend £130 on a t shirt with a tiny logo from stone island? Just had a look as not familiar with the brand and it’s literally a plain t shirt with a little circle. How much money do parents spend on their teenagers’ clothes? Are there 12,13,14 year olds with a wardrobe worth thousands? I’m quite shocked that we are all complaining about the price of food (which we need ) while wasting money on ridiculously overpriced clothes for growing children. It seems like madness!

Northernsouloldies · 18/02/2024 20:57

The black, grey Nike North face uniform prevelant Ne Scotland. Yip Stone Island was a popular label among the football thug fraternity.

seascape124 · 18/02/2024 21:39

At my dd's school children have "lost" north face coats that have never been found again. I said no when she asked for one. I think it's very difficult to know the right thing. I didn't get her one because I see how they treat clothes at school and at £200 I didn't think it would last long. It is difficult when they feel a lot of pressure to fit in. Not sure what the answer is really.

sciencemama · 18/02/2024 21:46

Here in Kent, all teen boys wear tracksuits or brightly coloured shorts and no top (don't know why) with expensive looking trainers.

Invisimamma · 18/02/2024 21:47

I think it's quite a sad world we live in when young boys are assumed to be hooligans and to be avoided because of what brand of clothes they wear.

Northernsouloldies · 18/02/2024 21:53

It goes back a long way, certain teen fashions through the decades have been equated as having an association with trouble making, anti social behaviour.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 18/02/2024 21:53

DS is 14 and he wears a variation of this look but he prefers cargo pants with a cuffed bottom to tracksuit bottoms and hoodies instead of tracksuit tops. He has the curly hair do though but his hair is actually curly so he’s lucky. He also wears the standard Air Force 1s or Jordans though and the black puffy jacket 😂. Have you actually tried shopping for colourful clothes for boys though, especially those in men’s sizes? Everything is black, grey, sludge or navy at a push.

Yes, my ds likes these things and that's what he asks for for Christmas and birthdays. He has only a few key pieces though, a couple of jumpers a tshirt, a jacket and the rest of his wardrobe is Nike. He will save his own money and or go halves with him.

It is expensive but that's what he likes, to begin with I wasn't convinced when he said 'but all my friends have got' and then I look around and they do!
