Having all top teeth take out

I need to make an appointment at the dentist. But im shitting it. I'm going to have my all top teeth removed in one sitting. The thing that's bothering me most is injections in the roof of my mouth

I have had them before I hate them. I will still do it . No choice

So sorry to hear this. Wishing you lots of luck. Could the dentist give you a sedative?

Tetsuo · 18/02/2024 01:08

Dental needles for anaesthesia are so fine these days you can barely feel it, as the dentist says, it is just like a small scratch and some gentle pressure, you will be fine.

I presume you're having the rest removed so you can have dentures?

Dental procedures can be very stressful, but think how great you'll feel when it's done.

ilovemyspace · 18/02/2024 01:39

Dentists don't want to cause you pain, so tell them how nervous you are. They will take that on board and will be extra gentle (at least that's my experience)

And remember that the imagining how bad it's going to be is far worse than it actually is.

Make the appointment - you'll be fine with the injection - honestly! 😊💐

Can you ask your GP if you can get through for a small amount of diazepam before the appointment? I have a phobia of the dentist and my jaw gets locked open, it's horrible. But if I take 4mg or so I'm not spaced out, but just... don't care so much about the anxious thoughts in my head. So you'd be like, 'Ugh, I really don't want the injection in the roof of my mouth,' and your brain would go, 'Meh, it's not that bad really, get it over with' Smile

That seems pretty drastic, is it clinically required

I doubt it's for fun.

DrJump · 18/02/2024 06:00

My mum is scared of dentist but also has it have lots of work done. Her dentist will give her a script for Valium prior to work being done. She takes it 12-24 hours before and isn't worried about the needles or work being done. Maybe it's worth talking to your dentist about.

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 18/02/2024 06:02

It'll hurt, the few days are awful but it will be amazing once it's done.

I had all my tops out due to a genetic disease, I wear top denture now and honestly it was absolutely worth it. (I'm only in my 30s as well don't worry it's more common than what some comments on here have you think!)

Soberthoughts · 18/02/2024 08:07

I'm with you op, I hate the dentist needles and despite what some posters are saying they bloody hurt! I take deep breaths when it's happening (sound like I'm in labour) and providing you don't have a phobia it really is a grit your teeth and get through it moment. It's still shit though, sending you 💐

I did say a low dose doesn't make you spaced out or out of it...

BaroqueInterlude · 18/02/2024 10:15

DH had this done and it really was worth the pain. It took about 10 days to heal.

I have already had all my Bottom ones removed. To be honest I was not in much pain at all after . I mean when the numbing wore of i took 2 paracetamol and that was it

The taking the top out ferns more shit because of the injection in the roof of the mouth. If it was anywhere else I would not care so much but roof of the mouth is shit.

I already have my bottom ones. I don't understand how to eat with them . So im worried once I get my top ones it will be even harder

Yeah I don't have an actual phobia it's just for them few seconds whilst they inject and its because its the roof of the mouth . I have had them before so I know what they are like . But I still hate them.

I think it migjt be partly a childhood thing . I remember having an injection in the roof of my mouth and the biggest pain ever as he done it and he seemed to be pushing it hard and I ended up sliding up the chair by the force . That did not help.

Oh poor you. I’m fine with the dentist apart from the injections which freak me out. And I seem to metabolise the anaesthetic really quickly so need top ups if it’s any more than a quick filling.

Do you have to keep your eyes open? I’ve found that it’s much less painful if I don’t see the needle coming. The numbing gel really helps, don’t be afraid to ask the dentist to give it a little time to work before injecting the anaesthetic.

I hope it all goes well for you 💐

I have to have my eyes open I have to see everything including the needle. 🤣. I know it will be ok and worth it . Just I'm shitting at the thought of it.

@Shamefullhouse

Once you get your tops they'll line up the bite better with the bottom and it'll come more natural to eat. It's a pain in the arse when the bite doesn't match. But it's literally just practice. I'm impressed you only needed paracemtol! You should be fine with the needle just think happy thoughts you got this!

bfsham · 18/02/2024 12:23

I hear you OP.
Take a really big deep breath in when the needle goes into the palate. That helps a bit. They are quicker locals to give though, as you only need a small volume of local up there. Good luck, you've got it 💪

Tumbleweed101 · 18/02/2024 12:32

Another one to say sedation lol. I was sedated for one top tooth being taken out. Was a fairly good
experience overall.

mt9m · 18/02/2024 12:41

I was fully aware with sedation, it just knocked the nerves and anxiety out so I could do the roof of the mouth injections (two at once into the palate).

Nchanged89 · 18/02/2024 13:31

Do you understand what the sedation means?

AnnieBuddyHere · 18/02/2024 13:38

Shamefullhouse · 17/02/2024 21:28

I know I feel like its the worst place to have an injection. I won't be doing hypnosis though

My poor friend recently had to have an injection in her eyeball! 🙈🙈

I'm not doing it either way . I would feel vulnerable I don't like that . As I keep saying I'm getting the treatment done. It's just that I'm shitting it whilst I wait /till tjat injection is done.

Highlighta · 18/02/2024 15:02

OP, what is the reason for your post?

It is just for someone to say ah here's a handhold and you will be 100s?.

People who have had it done are giving you some ideas to help and share how they did it, and you are shooting them down.

I've had top teeth removed. Lots of them. It's not very nice no. But I'd be taking on some tips offered here if I'd posted here beforehand.

I'd offer some too, but I feel none are wanted really.
