In for reduced movements and worried sick, anybody here to talk?

38 weeks and in for reduced movement. I usually feel the baby move a lot in the evening but tonight it's been much less, I know everything is probably fine but I'm worried sick and on my own 😭

Is anybody here to handhold and talk?

Hurrah for baby's party 🥳 Best of luck with scan results and a safe delivery x

toomanyleggings · 16/02/2024 23:51

@lingo1234 that’s standard now when you go in with reduced movement. Once I went in they had me go in every two weeks for a scan and twice a week for monitoring

RJnomore1 · 16/02/2024 23:51

Aw love it’s so stressfully. I never ever made 38 weeks!

is this your first? Not they the worry gets better if it isn’t.

You were right to go in op babies movements do not slow down or decrease in late pregnancy but you tend to get more rolls and punches than big kicks ! Better to be safe than sorry and get checked out , midwives would much rather you did , than left it to chance ……. It’s typical that they start the womb gymnastics as soon as the monitor goes on 🙈 glad all is ok though

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 16/02/2024 23:57

Good he started moving and hope the scan is OK. You are basically at term anyway, so if they have any reason for real concern they will induce or do an emergency csection.

Jesusmaryjosephandtheweedon · 17/02/2024 00:02

Good for you for getting checked out. If movements change, it should always be investigated. Thats why they are there.

Please do not listen to people who say, ah he's so big, he's running out of room in there. Utter bullshit. Check out the kicks count charity and always advocate for you and your baby.

Always get checked if you are concerned. Midwives would rather see 1,000 wiggly babies jumping around on a monitor, rather than 1 that wasn't.

Glad baba seems fine and scan is for reassurance. I'm sure you can't wait to meet them x

lingo1234 · 17/02/2024 00:08

Anybody know what they typically check at these scans after reduced movements?

So happy to hear everything ok. I went in with reduced movements about 12 times (had an anterior placenta) and it was always fine, but you are always doing the right thing going in. I had a million of these follow up scans too. They checked babies major organs, size and the blood flow through the umbilical cord.

Nori10 · 17/02/2024 00:58

I had a couple of scans in the last couple of weeks due to reduced movement, they check for growth and also blood flow through the cord. Just checking to see if everything is still growing and working as expected. All was ok at my scans but I was still worried as the reduced movement continued so they induced me early. Good luck with everything!

Mammma91 · 17/02/2024 03:13

So sorry OP, how are you feeling now have you been checked? How is baby? I’m just coming up 33 weeks with baby 2. I remember going in a lot for reduced movements near the end with DS. I hope all is well!

sarahc336 · 17/02/2024 06:46

It'll be to check the placenta I assume 😊

Rosiiee · 17/02/2024 07:03

They’ll check placenta blood flow, cord insertion and fluid levels. I went in for reduced movement at 33 weeks- the ctg was fine but the scan didn’t look good so I had an emergency c-section.

What did they find on your scan?

Feeling ok this morning, baby seems to be following his usual pattern thankfully.

@lingo1234 there was no amniotic fluid left! Which is so weird because I hadn’t been leaking or anything but apparently it can be reabsorbed by your body or something? Glad you’re getting plenty of kicks today!

saturnspinkhoop · 17/02/2024 07:54

Really glad you went in and everything’s fine. I went in at the end of one pregnancy due to reduced movement. If I hadn’t, the outcome could easily have been very different. Do keep going in every time you’re not happy with movement.

SunshineRoo27 · 17/02/2024 09:01

I'm so pleased everything is okay!

I had a scan after I went in for mine, they checked all the normal stuff and everything was fine.

I saw it as a little bonus scan as I wouldn't have had a chance to see her again before birth. She was born 3 weeks after

lingo1234 · 17/02/2024 14:42

Hi all, just a quick update. I have been for my scan today and according to the sonographer he is measuring way off the growth chart. She has mentioned that it could be diabetes (I did have this with my first but was told I didn't this time), so I am waiting for a review with the doctor.

Not sure what is going to happen now! Anybody else gone through similar?

My friend had this. Baby was delivered early.

lingo1234 · 17/02/2024 14:53

@justasking111 Oh dear! How early?

OP posts:
lingo1234 · 17/02/2024 14:54

My first I was induced at just over 38 weeks but this time I've opted for an elective so I'm not sure how that works now as it was meant to be at 39 week mark.

OP you're at term now, so your baby is not going to be premature.

lingo1234 · 17/02/2024 14:57

@TheShellBeach Just wondering though what the plan will be! As I said my elective is meant to be in a week or so time 😬

OP posts:
Cowboybuilderwoes · 17/02/2024 14:58

The growth scans at this stage are wildly inaccurate so don’t worry. Baby is ready to come out, maybe they’ll choose to induce and get them here. Baby is fine though, try not to worry!! Not long!!

saturnspinkhoop · 17/02/2024 15:04

It’s the uncertainty over what going to happen that’s difficult. I hope you know what the plan is soon, OP.
