In for reduced movements and worried sick, anybody here to talk?

38 weeks and in for reduced movement. I usually feel the baby move a lot in the evening but tonight it's been much less, I know everything is probably fine but I'm worried sick and on my own 😭

Is anybody here to handhold and talk?

You have to advocate for you both. Don’t worry about them thinking you’re fussing.

Go now and say you’re not feeling movement and you are worried because this is unusual and you’ve done things to try and get the baby moving. Say exactly what you’re worried about.

You won’t regret making a fuss.

I honestly think it's crazy that they can't just quickly check for his heartbeat to make sure he's ok just for now 😭

Ask them to do this, I used to work as a midwife and reduced movements at full term (37+ weeks) should be taken seriously and assessed quickly. Big hugs xxx

@lingo1234 Listen, if Ur in any way worried or just tell them. Trust urself.xx

With #2 I was in for the same thing. She was barely moving so they gave me really sickly sweet juice a couple of times and monitored me until she moved a bit. Had a healthy girl a week or so later. I know it’s worrisome, but it’s not uncommon for babies to be quieter near full term. There’s not much room to move!

justasking111 · 16/02/2024 23:08

Absolutely go and talk to someone now. My DIL did this a few times in A&E last week because my son was in such a state. Thank goodness she did because it was serious.

Be polite but firm

indecisivewoman81 · 16/02/2024 23:09

Please go and speak to someone now. Tell them you are very worried at the lack of movements. Do not be fobbed off.

lingo1234 · 16/02/2024 23:09

I'm being seen now. Thanks everyone I will update soon xx

Good luck OP! I hope you and baba are all okay! Let us know. Sending you lots of hugs xxx

Sleepysleepasap · 16/02/2024 23:11

Go and find someone now and insist that someone listens with a Doppler asap.
Mydaughter had this numerous times and it so worrying. Sending you my support.X

SunshineRoo27 · 16/02/2024 23:11

To reassure you, my baby decided to turn pretty late on so where I was used to her kicking in a certain place it stopped and I felt lighter kicks in a different spot which was worrying as I didn't realise she turned

However, make a fuss and get them to check things, you are 100% right to be in and get seen as a priority

Best of luck

Another coming along to handhold. I had a few episodes of reduced movements when I was pregnant with DD. Invariably as soon as the ctg went on she’d have a party. Hopefully it’ll be the same for you x

It is not true you should expect babies to move less. They should continue to move up to and even during labour. https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/your-babys-movements/

https://www.nct.org.uk/pregnancy/tests-scans-and-antenatal-checks/baby-movement-womb
‘Later in pregnancy, your baby will take up all the space in your womb. They should still move as often as before and their movements should still be strong though the movement will feel different because of the increasingly restricted space. Importantly, you should continue to feel your baby move right up to the time you go into labour. Your baby should move during labour too.’

Whiskeypowers · 16/02/2024 23:17

I had reduced movement with all three of my children and was induced for it with my first.
you have absolutely done the right thing and I hope everything is ok with you and your baby x

lingo1234 · 16/02/2024 23:35

As predicted as soon as I got on the monitor he starts to have a party in there 🫣 I hate feeling like I'm wasting their time but that is literally the most he has moved all night!!

Sausage77 · 16/02/2024 23:38

Oh YAY, OP that’s wonderful!! So relieved for you. You did the right thing - checking a baby’s safety is never a waste of anyone’s time. Wishing you all the best with the rest of your pregnancy and beyond!

Mummapenguin20 · 16/02/2024 23:38

That’s amazing. You are not and never will be wasting their time. Always follow your feelings that’s your baby in there mum knows best every time. These babies like to keep us mummas on our toes xx

Lizzieregina · 16/02/2024 23:39

@lingo1234 its not a waste of time at all! It’s always better to err on the side of caution with matters of health.

I’m glad the party started! You’ll sleep better now.

Nori10 · 16/02/2024 23:39

That's great news! It's also really normal for them to perk up on the monitor btw. The midwife told me that it always got them moving! Hopefully after being monitored for a bit you can finally get some rest!!

toomanyleggings · 16/02/2024 23:40

I went in loads of times with both mine. For increased and decreased movements. It’s stressful. I always found chocolate worked and dd1 was very partial to a Mr Kipling French fancy ( my thighs are still evidence of this 🤣).

lingo1234 · 16/02/2024 23:44

I am being referred for a scan, which apparently they will treat as "urgent" but not sure when that will be. I haven't had a scan since 20 weeks so that will put my mind a little bit at more ease 🙏🏻

OP posts:
littlemousebigcheese · 16/02/2024 23:45

It's never a waste of time, it's so much better to be safe than sorry xx
