Cool/quirky/luxe London restaurants to go with DS age 13

We (me, DH and DS age 13) are coming to London in April and I'm a bit stuck for restaurant ideas. We're staying in Marylebone but we'll be around other areas of London loads too. We went to London the previous two Easters and we/he loved places like Flat Iron, Seven Dials Market, Din Tai Fung in Covent Garden and Inamo in Soho (interactive ordering was a hit).
Any other great ideas for restaurants similar to these? I know my thread title says 'luxe' restaurants and none of these I've listed are particularly luxe but we wouldn't mind pushing the boat out for more swanky places if they are great. Thanks.

My 13 year old DS loved Ivy Asia in Mayfair - it’s lovely food and a great atmosphere

pharmachameleon · 14/02/2024 14:05

Brilliant idea. I love the Ivy anyway and haven't been to any of their Asia themed ones. Thanks

Korean BBQ?

Cook your own at the table.

Amazonico was a huge hit with the teens in my family just for the sheer OTT-nature, it’s basically the rainforest cafe for grown ups, DNiece had some mocktail that came in a monkey head that greatly impressed! Food is a slightly bonkers mix of South American and sushi but throughly decent. Warning though it’s spendy, but you did say lux haha!

Hits with DS (12):

  • Red Farm in Covent Garden with ice cream at Milk Train afterwards
  • Bone Daddies ramen (various locations)
  • Bebe Bob on Golden square for the fanciest chicken & chips
  • Arcade foodhall in Centrepoint
LoveAHamSandwhich · 14/02/2024 14:19

How about somewhere with an amazing view? The Shard, for instance. Or Sky GArden.

Xiaoxiong · 14/02/2024 14:26

The next place I want to take him is one of the Big Mamma restaurants - maybe Jacuzzi in Kensington or Ave Mario in Covent garden.

Xiaoxiong · 14/02/2024 14:28

I've heard that Wonderland in Soho is both bonkers and cool as well.

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 14/02/2024 14:31

I absolutely adored Brasserie Zedel, feels v posh but the set menu is really good value.

pharmachameleon · 14/02/2024 14:33

These are all absolutely brilliant thanks. I haven't heard of most of them so I'll check them out.

Kintan is fun. Japanese diy bbq at your table. I took my 14 year old niece there. There’s one in Holborn and one near Oxford Street

cherrypickles · 14/02/2024 14:39

Ave Mario is fab. Can't wait to try the other Big mamma ones

Amazing interior and design- if you are drinking it recommend a big blue g and t

The food is regular Italians and it's good -
It's famous for a few menu items but I can't remember what there are - they do a dessert served at the table - mini performance- and think it may be a truffle arancini?

Bootoagoose123 · 14/02/2024 14:41

Yep second the Big Mamma recommendations - went to Gloria before Xmas and it was fab!

efeslight · 14/02/2024 14:47

Great recommendations thank you.
We liked seven dials market and Borough Market last time we were there, but Borough Market seemed very busy

pharmachameleon · 14/02/2024 14:49

I'll definitely check out Big Mamma 😂
Sketch-I did look at this earlier on today but OMG it's a fortune! Afternoon tea would be £270 for three of us. Plus I couldn't see any photos of the interior. I went years ago but I was spectacularly drunk so can't remember anything apart from the cool toilets!

Another vote for Brasserie zedel

pharmachameleon · 14/02/2024 14:50

@efeslight yes we loved Borough market too and DS got paella there. Agree probably too busy for dinner-good fun though.

Duck and Waffle, Benhihana, Sushisamba, Lemonia.
Agree about korean barbecue suggestion above. Also chinese/korean hot pot.
Love Spitalfields market, can combine with Jack the Ripper tour and popping to Brick Lane.
Lots of nice restaurants in St Katherines docks if you want to be by the river.

MrsHaroldRobbins · 14/02/2024 15:20

Another vote for Gloria in Shoreditch.

pharmachameleon · 14/02/2024 15:50

Thanks @saltysquid. The Jack the Ripper tour would def appeal to the teen so I'll look into that.

Sexy Fish?

CurlewKate · 14/02/2024 16:23

My kids loved Le Garrick bear Covent Garden. Like a step back in time to Paris- all beautiful French waiters and classic French cooking.

mitogoshi · 14/02/2024 16:26

My kids always want to go to comtoir libanese.

Also I recommend teppanaki grills, they cook in front of you

Sexy Fish?

FYI that they kick under 18s out at 9pm. So you can’t book a table later than 7pm.
