Cool/quirky/luxe London restaurants to go with DS age 13

We (me, DH and DS age 13) are coming to London in April and I'm a bit stuck for restaurant ideas. We're staying in Marylebone but we'll be around other areas of London loads too. We went to London the previous two Easters and we/he loved places like Flat Iron, Seven Dials Market, Din Tai Fung in Covent Garden and Inamo in Soho (interactive ordering was a hit).
Any other great ideas for restaurants similar to these? I know my thread title says 'luxe' restaurants and none of these I've listed are particularly luxe but we wouldn't mind pushing the boat out for more swanky places if they are great. Thanks.

@Xiaoxiong carful with Ave Mario. We went last summer and the front is great by the door the rest feels very crammed in unless you go downstairs.. We were able to move downstairs which my dc loved but usually you get sat where you get.

@saltysquid been to Beninhana and really enjoyed it but what's so special about duck and waddle?

InTheRainOnATrain · 14/02/2024 16:44

Duck and Waffle is London’s highest restaurant (I think!) so great views. Brunch is great there, the kids in my family love it, and it’s less expensive than going for dinner. So I’d second that recommendation too!

We love Momo on Hendon street

Carlotta (new) in Marylebone High St is Italian and very gold and wow inside

@Odingodof the views are a big plus as mentioned above. Bit of a novelty and teens seem to like it, definitely worth going at least once!

Oooh I loved the front bit with the red velvet booths!

Our son really liked Sunday in Brooklyn in Notting Hill if you fancy an American brunch kind of thing!

Odingodof · 14/02/2024 17:12

@cherrypickles indeed but you may end up on the smallest round cafe table with no room for their huge plates!

I looked at duck when choosing where to go for a walk birthday and decided on beni

Wise0wl · 14/02/2024 18:42

If you liked Flat Iron you’d like Blacklock, which is great (and multiple locations)

pharmachameleon · 14/02/2024 19:06

@Wise0wl oh great. I loved Flat Iron so will def check this out. Thanks

On our list to visit with son of a similar age is Hakkasan and Chutney Mary. Both restaurants I have enjoyed myself thoroughly and my son is a foodie so I know he would love both places. They are pricey but for me well worth the money.

pharmachameleon · 16/03/2024 13:40

@Filamumof9 thanks! I've always fancied Hakkasan so I'll check these out. My DS is a foodie too! He's far more adventurous than me.

I see you mentioned afternoon tea at sketch - if you wanted a cheaper one, ive had friends say the science themed one at the Ampersand is really good. Just not sure if your DS might be a bit old (i think their kids were around 10 when they went)?

That looks lovely @CrispAppleStrudels. I think I've been in that hotel years ago and it was really nice. Thanks

If your son is a foodie too, he might enjoy ming jian at the Royal Garden hotel as well. They have a great peking duck there.

Really loved Hakkasan, their service is meticulous and incredible. Went there around Chinese New Year. Enjoyed every bite of the food, it is a bit of a splurge but based on that experience I am planning a trip to London with my family as we live overseas.
