This “humanisation” of dogs has got ridiculous

Had lunch in a chain restaurant yesterday. Two couples came in with smallish dogs. No problem with that as the restaurant is dog friendly however, they insisted on having high chairs for the dogs when their meal came as they had been holding the dogs on their laps until then. The waitress refused but they went and got them anyway so we had these shoved next to our table with a restless dog breathing and being uncomfortable in the high chair very close to us.
Today I get on an intercity train and a woman boards with a medium size dog and puts it on the seat next to her across from me at a table. The person who had booked that seat then turned up and the woman said what was she supposed to do with the dog as it couldn’t go on the floor! It did but was clearly distressed and couldn’t settle, poor thing.
I think putting animals in these situations is so unfair on them and also on others but it seems to be very common these days for people to treat their animal as if it is a human.

I’m fed up of dogs jumping up at my 4 year old in the park and then the owner shouting ‘don’t worry they’re friendly!’ and looking put out when I don’t look delighted by their dog. If my son ran up to random people and kicked his muddy legs all over them I’d be apologising and telling him that’s not ok, but for some reason people think their badly trained dogs are so charming we all must love it. My wider family have dogs and I grew up with animals so I’m not adverse to them, but my son is really starting to dislike/be afraid of dogs as he’s so often bounced on by dogs off the lead in the woods/park. Drives me nuts

So, you think it is OK to put dogs in high chairs in eating establishments?

I dont believe this is happening.

@TyreTracks

This particular story about dogs in a high chair isn’t believable at all. It’s so out there, that if it had happened, I think the OP would have taken a photo, especially as their posting history shows an ‘interest’ in dog threads. 🤔 OP hasn’t been back at all yet.

Yes - it's a wind-em-up-and-watch-em-go isn't it !

Of course it is. I think lots of people must be quite vulnerable in real life if they can’t recognise even obvious bullshit like this, or maybe they just hate dogs so much that they pretend to believe it. 😂

OP, well played I guess. You got them frothing from your made up story where you well and truly jumped the 🦈

I have my dogs on leads and get children approaching asking if they can pet them. One of ours is a Beagle and children are drawn to them. I just ask the parents if it is OK.

I honestly don't know where people are putting dogs in highchairs because it doesn't happen in the places I go to. Dogs aren't even allowed in our local restaurants. Weird.

It's bullshit. I'm laughing at the people who think it's real. Dog haters getting angry over something that doesn't happen.

Ghosttofu99 · 13/02/2024 22:24

I took my DD to build a bear for the first time the other week, (As we had a voucher, it’s very expensive there!) while I was taking my toddler round trying to help her decide between bears the couple ahead of us were taking their dog around trying to get it to decide between bears and even getting the ‘birth certificate’ etc I was amazed just based on the expense alone as the dog won’t know the difference between that and a charity shop bear. (my toddler won’t either tbf but we mainly wanted to watch the bear get stuffed) I mentioned this to DH and he said that kind of thing is just all for Instagram. Who knows and each to their own. It sounds just as far fetched as ops scenario but it happened.

I used to think people on here going on about seeing parents wip out a potty for their kid in a cafe or shop had to be bullshit until I saw it irl. Now nothing would surprises me

OhNoWhatIf · 13/02/2024 22:27

Dogs in highchairs is not a thing.

I’ve never seen that, but that’s believable. OPs high chair story however, isn’t. I mean, how many people on the thread have said they would do it or find it acceptable? Any? I haven’t seen any.

I think I did see one poster earlier saying it was ok but I’m not sure they were being entirely serious

Dogs in highchairs is not a thing.

Seems it is, try Google. Apparently you can even buy doggy high chairs 🤷

Not in the places I go to and to be fair you can buy a lot of shit things if you Google that is not acceptable day to day.

OhNoWhatIf · 13/02/2024 22:37

The OP is full of shit but if you want to believe it then go for it.

Exactly. So we have poster who seemed to be taking the piss. OPs lying. People believing it are either incredibly stupid or it suits their agenda.

Name a restaurant that has dog highchairs.

Couldn't give a toss if it's true or not , it's MN most of the stuff on here is bollocks

OhNoWhatIf · 13/02/2024 22:41

Or even allow dogs to sit on highchairs. It's rubbish and a lie from OP.

My local Costa seems to attract mums who feel the need to change a nappy in full view and smelling range of the other customers.
Also, toddlers in pull up pant things also being changed in the cafe area.
The "best" was when I was in a branch of The Range, and someone used a display table as a changing table, and left the nappy there.

It's a statistical fact that there is a huge epidemic of loneliness in Britain, which has received a some media attention recently. Unfortunately not everyone has a loving partner or close family to give them company. Therefore dogs (and of course cats) give these people vital companionship. Some of the PP's who dislike dogs may find themselves in that position one day.

Even if someone does have a partner or family it doesn’t mean they are loved unconditionally by them, with a dog or cat it is someone who loves you, to come home to. Not everyone should have a dog just as not everyone should have children.

herewegoagainy · 13/02/2024 23:43

When your kids are teenagers, its nice to have a dog that loves you in an uncomplicated way.
