Help settle an argument re: who is bendy/ non-bendy

So DS and I can both turn our legs/ feet in so that the toes of each foot are pointing at each other. (Hopefully photo will attach to show what I mean.)

DH can't, he can't even turn his feet halfway in.

According to DH DS and I are both weirdly bendy and it's not normal and we look like broken dolls when we do it.

But DS and I think DH is the unusual one not being able to turn his feet in.

So attempting a poll to see who's right.

I can't do that but I am hypermobile so my fingers, elbows and knees all bend backwards. It isn't a pretty sight 😂. Chances are you and your DS and yourself are hypermobile too. It is surprisingly common but people often don't realise they are or are called "double-jointed" (not a thing).

JaneIves · 11/02/2024 20:31

I have to admit that it took me a while to 'get' your photo.
The socks blend with the carpet, it's a bit of a head fuck!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 11/02/2024 20:34

Nope, I can get them about 2/3 of the way round, and I am hyper mobile too

RandomMess · 11/02/2024 20:35

That's to do with inward hip rotation rather than being bendy.

How far outwards do they go?

OneWillBurn · 11/02/2024 20:41

@DelilahBucket Just been trying to bend my elbows backwards and wondering how that's even possible!

OneWillBurn · 11/02/2024 20:41

@JaneIves Sorry. I thought it was clear but then I knew what I was looking at!

Cocacolacarrie · 11/02/2024 20:42

You are weird. Sorry I am with your DH on this one!

OneWillBurn · 11/02/2024 20:44

@RandomMess Ah, yes that's a more accurate description.
I can't quite get my feet to turn all the way out.

I can't make out what I'm looking at on that photo 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Scampuss · 11/02/2024 20:45

My family are all bendy, that's my normal, and thought ds's dad was unnaturally stiff jointed... until ds got diagnosed with joint hypermobility syndrome and a family history was taken.

sexyandy · 11/02/2024 20:46

How far out can you twist your legs/feet? You may just have hips that are angled slightly inwardly

aitchteeaitch · 11/02/2024 20:49

I know you can do it, but it isn't great for your knees and hip joints, so it is probaby better to stop doing it.

Windydaysandwetnights · 11/02/2024 20:51

My ds was born with club feet.. They went together like' hands together '.. Instead of straight ahead (obviously!). When the consultant manipulated them (painlessly) he straightened them.. Then let go and they went back to original (wrong) position. Was quite odd!

Thighdentitycrisis · 11/02/2024 20:51

I can do that too but have never tried before.

I have also been told my hip flexors are incredibly tight?? I have tight hamstrings

This!! You’re creating future problems. I’m hyper mobile and have no end of hip pain and irritation now.

Papillon23 · 11/02/2024 20:54

I can get a decent chunk of the way inwards (but am a no on your poll because I can't get them all the way onwards).

Super stretchy ligaments! Was a real party trick in my younger years, now I have to be extra careful as it hurts.

Same!!

I can do it but it does stretch my muscles a bit.

Took me ages. She's wearing pale spotty socks.

Hypermobile here and mine go both in and out

@aitchteeaitch @Lamelie we don't do it all the time. Just today I was contorting myself a bit trying to reach something and turned my feet inwards without really realising it. DH said what's wrong with your legs? I said nothing, and DS said yeah, nothing and showed that he could do it too.

OP posts:
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/02/2024 21:12

I can’t turn them in fully but can turn them out fully. Some hyper mobility as my knees will bend slightly backwards and some other joints are v flexible.
My hip flexors are tight due to too much sitting. 😁 So it feels more like muscles stopping me than joints.

Do you have any other bendy joints?

Jagley · 11/02/2024 21:17

I can turn them in and out all the way, but then I have hypermobile ehlers-danlos.

pickledandpuzzled · 11/02/2024 21:18

Mine go all the way out but only halfway in. I’ve attempted to add photos but don’t know if they’ll post.

CJ4713 · 11/02/2024 21:21

OP- I'm not sure what the purpose of the post is or why you seem to boast about your bendiness? Have you considered that you might have a genetic disorder such as Ehlers-Danos, hypermobility or other mobility issue you have passed on? Some of these issues can have serious medical consequences and side issues! I really hope this isn't the case and you and your DS do not have any long term issues, but it isn't just as simple as 'I'm bendy!'
