Guess the eye issue?

Paw2024 · 07/02/2024 20:17

Disclaimer I have been to the opticians Grin
They said they can't find anything wrong but it's obviously swollen and painful, photos of back of eye were fine and I'm waiting for a referral to an ophthalmologist

Some attractive pics, it's painful to blink, and my cheek is now joining the swelling tonight
I basically woke up with it yesterday and the swelling is just increasing very slowly
Anyone had similar?

Guess the eye issue?

Have you taken antihistamines to see if they have any effect?
I'm thinking maybe a blocked tear duct too. Try massaging it?

Paw2024 · 07/02/2024 20:25

I take 4 a day anyway or I would have taken some
Did try heat yesterday and the swelling kept getting worse so stopped that. Optician said up to me if I try it again.. swelling and pain is mostly is bottom lid and cheek

My first thought was also take an antihistamine.

Aparecium · 07/02/2024 20:27

Could it be whatever you are allergic to (or a new additional allergy) has overwhelmed your 4 a day?

Graceandfury · 07/02/2024 20:27

Just the one eye? Any sinus pain?

VincentVanGoth · 07/02/2024 20:29

My eye swelled up with a wisdom tooth infection- do you still have yours?

I'm also on a biologic so hopefully not - I'm allergic to exercise Grin with hives etc but nothing else

Just one eye and no, pain in the eye when I blink but nowhere else

Weirdly my filling fell out my bottom wisdom tooth the day before, but I had it filled at the dentist who looked and said "not related and that eye needs looking at"
It is the same side and it's being refilled and drilled properly on Monday as I keep losing the tiny filling

If your eyelid is sore when you blink ir suggests a style or chalazion or blepharitis flare up. I occasionally get a chalazion on my eyelid and it swells up. Last time I needed antibiotics to clear it but it was much more red than yours especially on the eyelid.

Take antihistamines and use a cold compress to reduce the swelling. If it gets warm, red or larger contact your GP.

Graceandfury · 07/02/2024 20:34

Any fever? Raised heart rate? Any indication of infection?

HavfrueDenizKisi · 07/02/2024 20:34

Stye! Autocorrect 😩

LIZS · 07/02/2024 20:36

Blepharitis or cyst on eyelid

No and no, I'm severely neutropenic so have a thermometer here and temp is normal. I basically feel fine apart from the eye

It's like a deep pain when I blink

Hmmm maybe get it checked elsewhere. Orbital cellulitis is pretty nasty and is only one eye.

fridaynight1 · 07/02/2024 20:42

I’d get the GP to have a look

Paw2024 · 07/02/2024 20:43

Should add the optician got another optician in to look at it, I did also check with my doctors who said all eye issues are opticians now

As a note I didn't realise specsavers you can just be seen even if not registered with them and they were really nice

They won't unfortunately
Said all eye issues are directed to opticians

I’d want that looking at in the next 24 hours if it were me. Most areas have either a walk- in eye casualty or scheme where opticians can refer you in to local eye clinic emergency clinics.

Graceandfury · 07/02/2024 20:48

I'd be inclined to go to A and E at this stage. If your GP won't diagnose and the optician can't either. You may need antibiotics. And eyes are something you can't muck about with

motherofkevinnotperry · 07/02/2024 20:48

Well it's definitely allergy, infection or drainage/blockage related.

Is it dry, watery, itchy? Worse or better in the morning? Eyes are redirected from GP to optical people now but not sure it's high street opticians.

Princesspollyyy · 07/02/2024 20:48

Have you got an eye casualty near you? I live near Bristol Eye Hospital and I swear by them for any eye problems. Maybe google for your nearest eye hospital with an a&e?

KingOlive · 07/02/2024 20:49

I think this looks like pre-septal cellulitis I am afraid OP. Depends a bit on where you are in the UK but the vast majority of areas offer an eye casualty service. Call the GP first thing tomorrow and they should get you a same day appointment. You need to be seen urgently to prevent spread.

I've been referred but am waiting
Optician (after examining my eye) has referred me to the community health eye care place, as an urgent referral but said it could be up to a week
I've had dye in it today and pics of the back of my eye, the air puff test and they looked at it with different lights

Our local hospital has an Eye A&E - if you have access to one of those I'd suggest going. (It's much quieter than a normal A&E!) At ours you are triaged by a nurse who will refer to the Dr for treatment. I was very impressed with how quickly we were seen and the follow up care.
