Five nights at Freddy’s. I was reluctant to watch it but my kids insisted on it for Friday night film night.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be

Me too. There's almost nothing I can elate to in it but there's something so stirring about it ... the absolutely beautiful music helps too.

Can really recommend a Good Year too also with RC ... his character to begin is a Twat of epic proportions but changes for the better. Brilliant other characters, beautiful scenery, and just a nice story. Perfect to watch on a rainy day.

I think Master and Commander is a lot about friendship, which anyone can relate to. It’s a very good two-hander. Russell C’s best performance, IMO.

Oldandcobwebby · 13/04/2024 18:34

Wonka.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/04/2024 19:05

Marc yes I'd agree .

cloudjumper · 13/04/2024 19:05

The Piano
The Green Mile

Both just floored me

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/04/2024 19:06

JoJo Rabbit

For some reason the guy who plays Hitler really irritates me. No reason just does. So didn't want to enjoy the film

It's bloody excellent though

Mummies (2023) with Joe Thomas and Eleanor Tomlinson. I bought tickets and then read some reviews online and wished I hadn't.

I went anyway and loved it. I don't understand why this film was so disliked.

Ron's Gone Wrong - I didn't know what to expect with this film, I hadn't heard anything about it but I certainly didn't expect to love it as much as I did.

Babe - I watched it as a kid but when I watched it as an adult I fell in love with it.

35andThriving · 17/04/2024 14:33

Also, DH had this with Just Like Heaven. It turned out to be one of his favourite films.

REP22 · 17/04/2024 14:54

Agree with PP about The Joker. Brilliant acting.

Wonka. I loathed and despised the Gene Wilder film (forced to watch it several times at school. I found Wilder creepy and that scene with the boat ride in the tunnel with flashing images was horrible) and was annoyed when my brother got us all tickets to see it without asking, but I really loved it.

Also went in to see Cool Runnings when another film was sold out and thought it was great, especially the ending when they carry the sled over the line.

35andThriving · 17/04/2024 20:05

I really want to see Wonka. I was going to take my ds but then he ended up going with a friend instead.

Sandwichblock · 17/04/2024 20:06

Barbie. I only went because I was away with my sister over a wet half term.

TeamPolin · 17/04/2024 20:29

Another vote for Paddington. Was expecting it to ruin my childhood memories of Paddington but it was an absolute delight...

DiscontentedWoman · 17/04/2024 20:36

Bizarrely, the Mad Max film with Tom Hardy. DP put it on in the cabin on the ferry. I fully intended to read but I got quite swept up in it. Really not my bag at all but I enjoyed it 💁🏻‍♀️

Stoptakingthep · 19/05/2024 14:43

The Color Purple musical. Fully expected it to be a Shute reboot but really enjoyed it.

Lol. I just posted that on a 'worst film you've seen in the cinema thread'.

As a TH fan, I went to see it and was just really bewildered at what I was watching and what it was or what is was supposed to be.

Glad you enjoyed it 😊

PregnantAndStruggling33 · 19/05/2024 15:52

Fight Club

I thought it was just going to be a load of violence but it was actually a really good film.

tearusapart · 19/05/2024 16:14

Legally Blonde

I expected dumb fluffy teen movie, and it sort of is, but so much more and I loved it

HeidiWhole · 19/05/2024 16:18

Rambo!

Playing with Fire. With John Cena.

Eurovision Fire Saga and the first Lego Movie.

@CutPiece Oh Master and Commander I think is fabulous - the cinematography is just gorgeous and I do think the acting is good. Apparently they wanted to make a second one based on the books but just too expensive.

MojoDojoCasaHouse · 19/05/2024 16:30

Mama Mia. I only went to see what the hype was all about, hate hate hate musicals.

I loved everything about it. The cast, the humour, the gorgeous Greek sea and sunshine. It was so full of fun and joy. Watch it my DDs now and Slipping Through My Gingers gets me every time.

BebbanburgIsMine · 19/05/2024 17:10

The Hunger Games.

I really dislike anything Dystopian/Sci-Fi, and things like that, but DD2 wanted to go and see it, so we did, and I loved it!

We've seen all the films in the series now.

eileandubh · 19/05/2024 17:12

The most recent Mission Impossible film. Was the only thing showing at the local cinema where DH and I were on holiday and I was fully prepared to nap through it, but it was fantastic.

Turned that from a lovely little song to…a rather dirty one Grin
