Five nights at Freddy’s. I was reluctant to watch it but my kids insisted on it for Friday night film night.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be

The Joker with Joaquin Phoenix. I was expecting some kind of Marvel superhero thing which I can't stand. But it was mesmerising.

Felt exactly the same about this film. It was absolutely cracking though, I’ve watched it a few times now.

Matilda (1996 version). Wanted to see Sleepers but it had sold out. Thought it would just be a kid's film and I'd hate it but absolutely loved it and still do

Asteroid city......i was thinking it was a weird film but ended up watching the whole thing just to find out what happened lol

SabreIsMyFave · 13/04/2024 10:04

Waterworld. Saw it on TV last week. I had never watched it as I have only ever seen reviews saying it's shit. One of the biggest (and most expensive) flops of all time la la la... But I was bored, and had a couple of hours to kill, so I watched. I actually quite enjoyed it, and would watch it again.

Master and Commander. I only went to see it as a friend had had a job tutoring on the set, and I wasn’t enthused by the idea of something I thought was going to be a macho Age of Sail action flick, full of men shooting cannon at one another, but I think it’s an excellent film — brilliant ensemble acting, it looks beautiful, and it’s really engaging. One to have seen on a big screen.

Pride and Prejudice with Zombies. DH bought it as a joke because I like costume dramas and he likes horror, and we each dislike the other. It was actually really enjoyable!

Billy Elliott. I can't dance so wasn't interested but ended up crying and I watch it again if it comes on TV. More recently, Finding O'Hana.

Me too. There's almost nothing I can elate to in it but there's something so stirring about it ... the absolutely beautiful music helps too.

Can really recommend a Good Year too also with RC ... his character to begin is a Twat of epic proportions but changes for the better. Brilliant other characters, beautiful scenery, and just a nice story. Perfect to watch on a rainy day.

The Power Rangers film that came out a few years back. One of my children begged me to go to the cinema with them and I thought I was in for a boring time, but Elizabeth Banks was really good in it!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 13/04/2024 16:38

I remember my dd wanting to watch Beverly Hills chihuahua when she was little and rolling my eyes but actually really enjoyed it 🙈😂

One of my guilty pleasures is Battleships. One of those so cheesy, it's brilliant kind of films!

Love it when the old Destroyer comes out. Old chap says to Rihanna "You ready to play with the big boys?" to an AC/DC soundtrack. Dreadfully epic Grin

CarrotPotatoRooster · 13/04/2024 17:39

Ready Player One. Weirdly great!

MyDentistIsCalledCrentist · 13/04/2024 17:42

The Big Lebowski.

I wasn't keen on watching it but put up with it because a friend recommended it. I enjoyed it the first time, then enjoyed it more and more with every time I watched it again.

It's now one of my most favourite films ever and I can quote large amounts of it. You've only got to say the words biennale or leads to put a smile on my face.

I saw that with DS3 when it came out, by accident , as the film he wanted to see was full.
It was surprisingly funny, we both really enjoyed it!

The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Which someone mentioned as their worst film on another thread. 😂

Renamed · 13/04/2024 18:10

Fight Club.

Justcallmebebes · 13/04/2024 18:13

Godzilla v Kong Empire thingy in 3D. Took grandsons. Was fucking brilliant

TheaBrandt · 13/04/2024 18:14

The new Annie. The Guardian slammed it so low expectations when we took our two young dds they loved it and we quite enjoyed it too. Guardian often get it wrong.

La La Land absolutely loved it and cried at the end wasn’t sure about the singing initially.

The latest Ghostbusters, the frozen one. Took the kids but really enjoyed it.

I absolutely love Godzilla.

I did enjoy the film but it was unapologetically silly in places (the big metal transformer arm they just happened to have for Kong had me eye rolling) but the mister fights are awesome and I will watch anything with Godzilla in once.

GodZilah · 13/04/2024 18:17

Oh Godzilla Minus one was amazing.

Went to see it 3 times at cinema 😂

vincettenoir · 13/04/2024 18:17

The Karate Kid with Will Smith's kid.

augustusglupe · 13/04/2024 18:18

Air

It was Easter last year and DD & her boyfriend wanted to see it, so we all went.
I just thought oh god a film about trainers.
But I loved it. Have seen it again since.
