Anyone else hate wind?

I don't mean of the gastric variety!

I find strong wind really unsettling when I'm inside my perfectly solid brick house, I don't know why. It's blowing a hooley outside again and my stomach is in bloody knots, even though I could go out for a walk in the wind and it wouldn't bother me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Great thread, OP. I'm enjoying all of the comments of people's different experiences of wind, though most seem to find it unsettling/ scary.

I get that as well, it's definitely a powerful and scary force. But I think it can also be beautiful and if I am in a cosy and safe place, I enjoy the sound of the wind howling outside.

I think the wind also conjures up fantastic imagery for dramatic movies, adventure stories, etc. and can be anything from a soft gentle breeze to an all out storm. There is a kind of romanticism to it.

When I'm out in very strong winds I do worry that things will blow towards me and feel a bit unsettled, especially when driving.

Windy days also seem to make children absolutely bonkers! Have you been at a school on a windy day? Playtime is mad!

IloveAslan · 05/02/2024 07:51

No, I love a good strong wind (which is lucky, as we get plenty of them here). I especially like a cold wind, but don't mind a warm wind either.

Beaverbridge · 05/02/2024 07:53

I'm another one with trees too close to house. It's been blowing a gale all night. When drier weather is here, I'm going to get branches taken off the ones closest.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 05/02/2024 08:23

It really unsettles me due to childhood trauma. I spend a lot or time every time it's windy working on my CBT rationalising nothing bad is going to happen.

Legoninjago1 · 05/02/2024 08:24

Yes!! Totally agree with you OP.

Alchemistress · 05/02/2024 08:35

I thought this was just me. Windy weather gives me the absolute rage. I can bear any other type of weather but windy is just... absolutely not.

whatthefrippery · 05/02/2024 08:39

Agree! I hate it more than other weather because it can blow heavy things down onto you like signs and tree branches. I also can't deal with it straight in the face which stops you breathing and then icy wind that makes your nose numb and lungs hurt. Worst weather!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/02/2024 08:50

Unless it’s very violent, I don’t mind it. Often it blows the clouds away, so after a few of those depressing days of just thick cloud and no wind, it’s a refreshing change. Also, if you live anywhere urban, where you get a build up of traffic fumes etc., it blows those away, too.

My DM always hated it, though.

spicedlemonpie · 05/02/2024 09:24

I love it the worse the wind and rain at night the better i sleep.
I really dont mind it.

Hedjwitch · 05/02/2024 09:30

Dont like it either. Upstairs flat under the roof which rattles and creaks. Sounds like the whole place is about to collapse

Me too! I hate it but like it when I'm inside. I keep thinking at least it's good for the wind turbines

EveryKneeShallBow · 05/02/2024 09:35

I always loved being cosy inside while the wind whirled and whistled outside. But enough is enough now! There hasn’t been a quiet calm night for weeks here in the east of Scotland and I am sick of it!

e.t.a. And it’s not good for wind turbines, as they often have to be turned off to protect them from spinning to destruction.

PrawnDumplings · 05/02/2024 09:48

Eat less beans?

Sahara123 · 05/02/2024 09:56

I love it ! All cosy inside with the wind and rain howling outside just now . Rain beating on the velum roof windows. Watching the birds clinging on to the bird table poor things. I’m surrounded by trees but really not much ever comes down. I’ll be out for a blustery walk later

Aquarelles · 05/02/2024 10:25

It's getting right on my nerves just now. The temperature is ambient but the wind makes it feel bloody freezing.

Can't have my windows open to air the house because the wind keeps slamming them shut.

Dog walks are a pain in the arse because the poo bags keep blowing about when I try to pick up my dogs business.

Trying to get stuff done in the garden before spring but the flowers get ripped out of the pots and the neighbours tree at the bottom of the garden is creaking menacingly.

Another wind lover here. 💨🍃
