Anyone else hate wind?

I don't mean of the gastric variety!

I find strong wind really unsettling when I'm inside my perfectly solid brick house, I don't know why. It's blowing a hooley outside again and my stomach is in bloody knots, even though I could go out for a walk in the wind and it wouldn't bother me 🤷🏼‍♀️

I go through phases of being anxious about the trees close to the house. But more than anything I am anxious about the sheer amount of storms and gusty days that we have had within the last year. I can count on my fingers the number of days where the air has been still. I hate the constant wind and want our old weather back.

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 04/02/2024 23:36

Me! I hate the wind. In my last house I could hear the corner of the roof creaking above my head in the wind and I would always have to sleep down stairs on the sofa where I couldn’t hear it, otherwise I couldn’t sleep.
My present house is slightly raised and in a wind tunnel where the wind rushes down the valley and hits my house directly. It’s totally irrational. I have in my mind that the roof will tear off any minute! The wind is howling around the house now, but if I go outside, yes it is windy but not half as bad as it sounds.
Even if a tile or two came off I know it’s not the end of the world and can be easily fixed but I cant stop worrying.
My Gran was the same. Maybe te worrying is hereditary 😂

IHeartKingThistle · 05/02/2024 00:03

Teacher here. We ALL hate wind. It makes them loopy!

Seasaltsquall · 05/02/2024 00:05

I hate, hate, hate the wind. With a passion. It makes my mood change even when I'm in the house, and it ruins my dog walks.

LightDrizzle · 05/02/2024 00:07

I’m the same. It’s very unsettling.

Agree about wanting our old weather back.

I have always slept with my bedroom window open a crack for fresh air but in the past couple of years I am having to close it fully more and more frequently due to wind howling outside.

It unnerves me and worries me for our planet.

MrsKwazi · 05/02/2024 00:16

Me too. I hate it. I find it very unsettling.

MYSTERIOUSGIRL2024 · 05/02/2024 00:21

I absolutely love the sound of the wind & storms also but only when I'm at home looking out at it, otherwise out in the open not so much! I tend to freak out & my anxiety worsens with thoughts of falling trees, debris & the likes esp if it was to hit me on my journey so safe to say I'm a home bird when it's a windy day. With the rain added in I actually find that very therapeutic as water is a love of mine & is very calming hitting off the windows. I do understand though the fear it can cause in people though, it's not for everyone whether indoors or outdoors it can be a frightening time!

Touty · 05/02/2024 00:33

Yes, it makes my anxiety worse.

misssunshine4040 · 05/02/2024 01:26

Part of my fence blew down In the recent storm and the remaining fence now makes a horrible noise in the wind as if it's ready to blow down too.
I hate listening to it and the wind seems to be so strong lately

dullandgrey · 05/02/2024 01:47

I was thinking this earlier! It definitely makes me feel anxious even if I was feeling ok before it.

GodspeedJune · 05/02/2024 01:50

Yes, me too. I’m very stoic and not usually spooked but windy weather really unsettles me. We clearly aren’t alone, so I wonder what causes it to have this effect on us.

coxesorangepippin · 05/02/2024 01:52

I find it very cosy

TheWonderSpot · 05/02/2024 05:32

Yes, even as a child. At certain times the wind would induce what I now recognise as mild panic attacks: irrational, churning, anxious feelings ...

Ineedanewjobsoon · 05/02/2024 06:10

And I thought it was just me!!!! My DH now knows how it affects me and expects me to be quiet and snappy.

I have to be out in the wind every day too, handling horses who are often wound up by the wind, so there is no getting away from it.

If I know it’s to be windy over night, I wear earplugs with a pillow over my head or I have no chance of any sleep.

LatteFlatte · 05/02/2024 06:14

Same, makes me very anxious. I also think it's perfectly rational, wind causes plenty of destruction.

hattie43 · 05/02/2024 06:19

Yes me every time a storm is announced . It's because I am surrounded by trees .

Loubelle70 · 05/02/2024 06:22

I hate wind...it rattles top of my house at night (sounds worse than it is tbh because its upstairs)...i struggle to sleep. Mine is more anxiety, more about my grandson walking to school. I need to sort it out tbh.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 05/02/2024 06:22

It has been exceptionally windy here in Scotland last night. Woke me up a few times. I always said I can handle any weather - rain, hot, cold etc - but not wind.

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 05/02/2024 06:23

I’m not a fan of wind either.

Just makes me feel very unsettled. Can’t put my finger on it.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 05/02/2024 06:30

I do today as I'm getting on an aeroplane!

But in general - I don't mind it but it sends the dog mad !

Els1e · 05/02/2024 07:23

Yes, me too. As another pp said, just feel unsettled but not sure exactly why. I get bad headaches just before a big storm too.

Komencanto · 05/02/2024 07:26

Me too..makes me on edge and slightly anxious!

Tiny2018 · 05/02/2024 07:30

Wind is my least favourite weather condition because it has the ability to cause so much damage and it's completely uncontrollable.

Every other weather condition within reason we can protect ourselves against, ie umbrella for rain, parasol for sun. But there's been times I've laid in bed watching the huge tree out the back of my house and wondered what direction it would fall during strong winds, whether it was likely to hit what would be either of my kids bedrooms first.

Being out in strong winds isn't great either as you can be hit by flying debris that comes from seemingly nowhere.

On a minor level it annoys me too, like when it blows my hair in front of my face so I can't see, or blows my hair into my face when I've Vaseline or lip gloss on my lips and my hair gets stuck in it. This gives me the rage 😂

Tremblingmadness · 05/02/2024 07:43

Strong wind triggers my migraine, with incredible nausea.

My Grandmother was the same.

I read somewhere that this effect is caused by the changes in air pressure.

Whatever causes it I wish my neighbours would use some common sense and stop putting their recycling bins out at night when the wind is this bad. Me running up the road at 2am, half dressed, trying to stop their bins hitting my house and flipping into the road to be hit by the next passing car, is not a pretty site. It also makes my migraine much, much, worse !!
