SNORING HUSBAND

Help...I'm so tired 😪

My husband snores so badly, it's so loud and if I get to sleep before him it wakes me up. We both work full time and I'm exhausted as I'm not getting to sleep in my bed I end up having to sleep on the sofa for any chance of sleep.

If your bed partner snores what is your solution to sleep but not have to sleep elsewhere? I mean proper tried and tested industrial noise cancelling ear plugs ANYTHING!! I will spend money (his) to get me a good sleep I'm so tired 😭

Spare room? If not, he can sleep on the sofa. He should be the one sorting this out.

Bananalanacake · 04/02/2024 17:38

The only way to deal with this is smother them with a pillow or live in a separate house. I had a DP who snored and I lived in a studio flat, thank god he didn't live with me and I could make him go home the next day.

wishthiswasreallife · 04/02/2024 18:09

We don't have a spare room or I would definitely make that my room. It's so bad I LOOK forward to sleepovers at work where I can get a decent sleep 😂

Murders caused by snoring should get a heavily reduced sentence I feel like 😂

In all seriousness OP your husband should visit the GP to check this out. My SIL was a loud snorer & my brother couldn’t stand it so in the end she got checked out & was found to have sleep apnea. Now wears one of those air-flow masks at night and they sleep in separate rooms.
Does he realise how much of a problem this is for you? You can’t continue on next to no sleep. 💐

StoorieHoose · 04/02/2024 18:28

I have loop quiet ear plugs and a Bluetooth sleep headset playing brown noise and I can still hear the snoring warthog next to me at night

Menopause is buggering up my sleep patterns anyway and once I'm awake I'm awake for a couple of hours. I swear even if I'm downstairs I can hear phantom snores

Devonchills · 04/02/2024 18:32

My husband is a terrible snorer. I discovered earplugs and they are amazing! I have a small ear canal and had to get small ones from Amazon, takes a while to get used to them, but they block out all the noise!
Life changing!

mrsbyers · 04/02/2024 18:33

Mine had surgery to remove tonsils and flappy back of nose skin and still snores so we have separate bedrooms and I still need to wear earplugs especially if he’s had a few drinks

TeenLifeMum · 04/02/2024 18:35

My dh snores badly when he’s got a cold or a few other situations like being over tired. I need my sleep!

we have 4 bedrooms but 3 dc so I ask dd to sleep in her top bunk so I can get in the bottom or other dd will pull her day bed out so I can share with her. It’s not ideal but needs must. Sofa is also very comfy. I really wish I could have my own bedroom for sleeping.

Awrite · 04/02/2024 18:38

There is no cure. It only gets worse with age.

Separate rooms. If HE needs to sleep on the sofa then so be it.

Lack of sleep is horrendous for health.

LillyBugg · 04/02/2024 18:41

Are all these snoring husbands over weight?

This is becoming an increasing issue in my house and we are only in our thirties. I worry I've got decades of this to come.

Is it a weight thing? A male thing? An age thing?

My husband gets sensitive when I bring it up sometimes but I often lay there absolutely raging because he's asleep and I'm not.

No spare room here either. And I hate earplugs because then I worry I can't hear my children.

DRS1970 · 04/02/2024 18:43

You could suggest he visits the doctors. Sometimes snoring is caused by physical abnormalities in the air way, or by other health problems, or even obesity.

amylou8 · 04/02/2024 18:45

I have a pair of Bose sleep buds that I play full volume white noise on, then a thick wool blanket folded up over the ear not on the pillow. I'd say this cuts out about 80% of the snoring. He does still wake me up most nights, and if a jab in the ribs doesn't sort it I decamp to the sofa.

Lizzieregina · 04/02/2024 18:48

Separate bedrooms for us although he sleeps on the couch 95% of the time.

DH also fidgets and that was worse than the snoring.

Zoraflora · 04/02/2024 18:51

I wear earplugs and my husband wears a snoring strip on his nose. He still wakes me up sometimes but not as frequently as before.

Its very frustrating and has caused many arguments in our house. I feel your pain.

CombatBarbie · 04/02/2024 18:52

My DH orders a "snuff" thingy from Morocco, it was originally a "yeah OK haha" buy at a herbal medical stall in a souk..... But it works! Couple of deep sniffs before bed, works wonders.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 04/02/2024 18:52

DH is a horrendous snorer! He was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, had polyps in his throat and ended up have a septoplasty. He has a Cpap machine but hates wearing it, so I'm stuck with the snoring!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 04/02/2024 18:56

Murders caused by snoring should get a heavily reduced sentence I feel like 😂

No - no sentence at all!!!

Smartiepants79 · 04/02/2024 19:00

Get him to the doctors to start finding out why it happens and how he can improve it. He has to show willing or he’s a selfish twat. The snoring is not his fault but it is his responsibility to do everything her can to improve the situation.
My DH has some success with nose strips and nasal sprays. He’s tried many things but nothing has really worked long term.
For me I use silicone ear plugs and sleep headband that I play pretty loud white noise through. It sort of helps.
We no longer sleep in the same room at home. I would have left long ago.
I would seriously be working out where else in your house could be set up as a bed for you, at least in the short term.

Globetrote · 04/02/2024 19:01

He needs to see the GP for a referral to be assessed for sleep apnea. My DH was like this and after years of nagging he finally did something about it and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. He now has a CPAP machine which he uses at night (a mask over nose forces air in regularly).

Apnea is not a joke - it can cause heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and strokes, to name but a few conditions.

Don't just buy earplugs - get him to the GP.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 04/02/2024 19:04

We sleep in separate bedrooms- he’s with his DS’s they can sleep through it , it grinds my teeth from the next room

Get your DH to see a GP and/or he sleeps on the sofa - can you turn another room into a bedroom?

Meredusoleil · 04/02/2024 19:09

Get a sofabed in the living room for him to sleep on.

Thunderstruckbysnoring · 04/02/2024 19:18

I started a thread on this (see my username )
I went to stay over at a friend's looking forward to a respite and SHE snored too. I'm cursed. He's snoring on the sofa right now and had a rare old whinge about the sofa being too small but I sent him away from oir bed this morning. I'm done

Barone245 · 04/02/2024 19:26

Every time my partner woke me up snoring, I eventually started waking him up too so he knew how it felt. He soon got the message and now sleeps on his side with a mouth guard to stop the snoring.

winniethepooped · 04/02/2024 19:34

OP I can relate so so much. The ONLY thing that worked for me were these ear plugs (or similar) And I disregard all the instructions

What I do...

  • I pull them apart so a smaller size (I don't have them positioned in the outer ear)
  • make into a cone shape
  • shove right into my ear canal
  • I re-use them and use them every single night. Only replace when looking a little worse for wear. Last months.

All of the above is against manufacturers instructions! But it's the only thing that works and doesn't slide out/hurt!!

Bear in mind my father is an ear doctor so if I get it stuck in there, I don't panic. Hasn't happened anyway but my husband got one stuck in once (he says I'm a "heavy breather" 🙄 lol so we both wear them)

Silicone, mailable Ear plugs

Thank me later!!
