Which foods make you feel better after eating them?

I find bananas are a good mood food for me. Also maybe obvious but I like a healthy light meal such as salmon with baked potato and fresh veg. I also enjoy a roast dinner with mash, roast potatoes, veg and gravy.

I find I’ve become more sensitive towards certain foods as I’ve got older and I don’t like anything too spicy any more and I can’t eat a huge meal. I just ate four chocolate biscuits and enjoyed them but nutritionally I know they are not doing anything for me.

What foods seem to agree with you and do you feel better after eating them?

Shakshuka. Instantly restorative, and I know it's doing me good.

@blackpanth i’m going to get the stuff to make some this week now I'm thinking about it! Ds has been really poorly and totally off his food, these will definitely win him round 😋

I make an apple crumble and it feels like Prozac in a bowl. It literally calms and soothes mind, body and soul. 😌

Eggs
Fish
Chocolate

Allywill · 04/02/2024 16:49

Absolutely agree!

Genuinely a good salad, with lots of leaves, tomatoes, onions, peppers, cucumber, avocado (and whatever dressing or protein) or lots of veg with a protein,

generally if it’s to make me feel good, then it’s something healthy.

i don’t Really feel “better” by eating chocolate or steak, chips or wine. I might enjoy it more, want it more, but I don’t feel better after having it. Just sluggish.

Soup, spicy food like Thai curry with lots of birds eye chilli, chocolate melt in the middle pudding with single cream 😛

Goodness. You must really love crumble.

Bread and butter pudding.
Risotto.
Lentil soup with loads of carrots.
Raw carrots with houmous.
Fresh homemade bread, preferably soda bread, eaten hot and dripping with salted butter.
Roast chicken with roast spuds, purple sprouting and real homemade gravy. Happiness on a plate. And tonight's dinner. Mmmmm mmmmm

I do a sweet potato cut in half roasted and topped with cheese and baked beans, with sliced tomatoes and salad on the side. Comforting and filling without the overly full feeling of a large jacket potato.

Also green smoothies with spinach, banana, coconut water and pineapple.

Avocados. Eggs. Greek yoghurt. Fresh berries.

TerriPie · 04/02/2024 17:02

Cheese on toast with marmite.

I spend a lot of evenings alone and can't be arsed to cook for myself and tend to graze on cereal/fruit/cherry tomatoes - basically toddler type snacks 😳. Occasionally I branch out and have cheese on toast which feels like a proper cooked meal.

Crikeyalmighty · 04/02/2024 17:04

Chicken casserole and dumplings

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/02/2024 17:11

Roast Chicken. The savoury aroma as it comes out of the oven is a mood booster in itself!

I only ever eat anything when I am sure that I will feel better after eating it. Why else would you eat it?

TotalAbsenceOfImperialRaiment · 04/02/2024 18:02

Smoked salmon, especially if there's champagne with it.

Omg I wish I had that attitude!
I agree with the hot buttered toast and the roast dinners.

Mini eggs 😂😂

These make me emotionally happier but my body doesn't like them.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/02/2024 18:42

Soup and salad. Homemade bread. Jacket potatoes. Not fruit actually. I like it, but I don't do well with acidic foods. Definitely not dairy, especially cream. I suspect I am mildly intolerant.

Food when I'm hungry.
No food when I'm not hungry.

SmallestInTheClass · 04/02/2024 19:01

Homemade soup or tinned tomato soup
Fresh homemade scones with butter and jam
Chai tea made with hot milk

merryhouse · 04/02/2024 19:28

cheese
potatoes in almost any form
chocolate
bread, especially sweet bread buns
cream

don't get me wrong, I like salad. I like undressed salad. But it doesn't make me feel better.

Hepherlous · 04/02/2024 19:31

Sweet potatoes. If I have them for tea I have noticeably more energy the next morning
