Red bedroom

My son wants a red bedroom. Would you let a child choose a red bedroom? I worry that it wouldn't be a restful space and red would either be too bright or too dark.

I always wanted a red bedroom myself as a child as it was my favourite colour (still is) and I thought it would be cosy. My mother always said no to full red walls, though she did allow me dark red stripes with a lighter colour. I understand why now! But maybe you should just let children make their own decoration choices even if it's against your better judgment..

Does anyone have a red bedroom that they're happy with? I've googled pictures of red bedrooms and I find most of the images rather overwhelming. Could it look OK to have one red wall, maybe? It's a medium-sized north-facing bedroom.

you could paint it white and get red light bulbs. It will look red but you could always change the light bulbs if he changes his mind :)

I had a yellow bedroom with brown carpet and brown curtains when I was a teenager. I'm sure my mom didn't want me to have this hideous colour scheme but not only did she allow it, she made me the curtains out of brown bedsheets as she couldn't find any brown curtains anywhere. I was also allowed to colour in the walls of my 'den' however I liked. I'll be forever appreciative of her allowing me to have an artistic streak.

I had a deep red bedroom throughout my teens, absolutely loved it and had no sleep problems.

What about something like this? https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=407110249951642 It would give him elements of what he wants, but only one wall would need painting over deep red if he changes his mind.

(Personally I'd go for a pale blue rather than grey on the non red walls as I think that grey is a bit cold and heavy and blue would be easier to live with).

Make all the accessories red and then have a white room that feels red. Red curtains and bed linen are a start but then you could put up a pin board (large?) covered in red fabric and have a red rug or even red fabric wall hangings (thin rod at mounted at ceiling level with material hanging down). That way it can be scaled back if it is too much or if he starts supporting Aston Villa next year!

My son wanted red too, and we ended up going for a marvel style room with dark grey and red, and marvel characters. Colours are bit like these photos. We went with one wall in the red and the others in the dark(ish) grey, but could probably have got away with two walls.
