How to quieten a busy mind at night?

Busy mum of 2 primary aged children in my thirties, work 4 days a week in quite a stressful job at the moment. Usual manic evenings when coming home of reading, spellings, kids hobbies (lots of), baths, bedtimes etc etc. Very supportive and involved DH.

The issue is that when I'm trying to go to sleep, my mind is so active with thoughts, worries, conversations replaying over in my head. My mind is so 'busy' that I'm not truly relaxing and when I get to sleep it means I'm having vivid dreams. I've tried all the usual techniques to relax before bed, no TV or phone, reading a book etc but it's like my mind cannot stop being busy!

Any suggestions?

The Nothing Much Happens podcast is brilliant for this (free on Spotify).

Also, The Braveway meditation package - £40 but such a good investment. Each meditation has a different theme (eg, de exciting the nervous system) and helps with clearing the mind.

Nothing Much Happens is wonderful isn't it. It's changed everything for me, have never managed to get to the end of the story yet. I love that it makes you concentrate enough to not be able to think of anything else, but in a lovely gentle way which sends you straight off.

All the posters who use apps/podcasts/white noise etc, do you wear headphones in bed? The noise would drive my husband mad but I wouldn’t be able to sleep with earbuds in!

I've got some of these-

I'm a really light sleeper and don't feel them on. I've got some of the band ones and an adjustable one, think I paid around £12

I listen to "sleep meditations" on YouTube. I like the Jason Stephenson ones best. No matter how stressed/un-sleepy I feel, I always fall asleep within half an hour.

I listened to podcasts or audiobooks before I found the sleep meditations but I found I got too engaged with them to switch off and fall asleep.
