Would you lend your friend your wedding dress?

Just that really. I've been looking for a wedding dress. I don't want to spend loads as I'm having a small intimate wedding. I've seen people that rent their own dresses out and I think it is great. It then got me thinking of all my friends who have been married and their dresses sat away.

So would you lend out your dress or do you feel too attached to it? If it got a bit of damage would it ruin the friendship etc?

Yup! Got married just over a year ago and have already agreed to lend out my wedding dress to a friend getting married in 2025 - its a mad money munching world and she will look great in it, so why wouldn't I?

Just celebrated our 19th anniversary. Way back then asked a friend to shop with me at our local Monsoon Outlet as didn’t have budget for much more. She very delicately suggested she would be honoured if I borrowed hers!!! A £3k dress in its day 😬 I actually had some beading professionally repaired before wearing, and obviously paid for the clean before returning. She said she loved being able to see the dress from another perspective, was honoured that I liked hers enough to wear, and I obviously felt like a princess!!! This was offered though so not sure if I would have thought to ask. And make sure you see and like your friends dresses before you do ;) And have to be identical sizes!!

Not a chance. My wedding dress was bespoke, designer, and very distinctive.

I would love it if one of my daughters chose to wear it but no problem if they don't want to.

Definitely not lending it to any friend, no matter how dear!

Cost me £1000 in 1990 (yes I know it was mad!)

Well that’s a bit mean.

Charming! My daughters love my dress and have said they would consider wearing it if they were getting married.

Something tells me that in spite of all your laughing emojis, you are not one bit funny!

It was a joke!!

I always associate the word distinctive with questionable taste. I think it’s a regional thing maybe? When someone comments that she looked distinctive, here it means dreadful/overdtessed/ gaudy. So it made me think of that connection. The bride looked ‘distinctive’ is not a compliment here at all… but I am sure your dress is beautiful!!! Just your description means something else here 🤷🏼‍♀️

I donated mine to Oxfam after my wedding and I don’t regret it; it felt like a nice thing to do.
