Live Aid 1985 - were you there?

Anybody else around who went to Wembley to Live Aid? I've just been watching something about Queen and their performance. I remember they were unbelievable - nobody else came close. I've not met anybody else who was there.

I was a steward at LiveAid - and I was in the overhead lighting gantry, so I had the best view of everything. I was able to watch them set up the stages for the next act during each performance.

I even saw Elton John kissing his wife!

The only reason they even put us in the lighting gantry was because someone had tried to climb up it during the Springsteen concert.

I absolutely loved Bryan ferry's set at live aid. In particular Sensation even though it had technical difficulties with mikes and the drummer apparently tore his snare drum head with the first hit. Still brilliant

I still think that a rockier greatest hits set would have been a better fit on the day. Roger Taylor said in an interview when they were rehearsing that you have to play stuff that people know...if they're watching in Turkey or wherever.
My favourite bit of the US part was Hall and Oates and The Temptations doing a Temptations medley including all the dance routines.

This is a bit of Queen's rehearsal at The Shaw Theatre and an interview at the end.

Absolutely amazing Queen rehearsal. No wonder they stole the show, their set is so tight. Genius the way they merge into Radio GaGa from BoRhap

Never went but I’m unreasonably obsessed with Live Aid, Queen’s performance and this mid 80’s period ! in my memory the Philadelphia show was rubbished compared to ours

Having said that I’m looking forward to watching the doc on Netflix about the American equivalent of their single written by Lionel R and Michael J

It was! The video footage of the London Concert was much more impressive than being at the Philadelphia one. Funny thing is too, not many people can even remember where the American one was. I had a conversation recently with someone who was at the London one and no one can really remember Philadelphia

Sun City didn't make Queen any friends but it had little adverse effect on them. Radio Ga Ga was one of the biggest hits of 1984 and was number one in 19 countries. They were absolutely not seen as has-beens in 1985.

I Want To Break Free was huge that year as well.

I was 27 and married. Our friends from uni came to visit for the weekend. The weather (Scotland) was glorious all weekend and we drank Bacardi and rum and wine, ate crusty bread and cheese and pate and watched Live Aid. It was a fabulous weekend with good friends and the music was sublime. I remember being disappointed with Paul McCartney but hadn't realised that his mike had stopped working. Queen were amazing

Yes I was there.
Up until the age of 40 it was the only concert I’d ever been to. Seen some Bob Dylan and Wolfe Tones ones since

It was truly amazing and extremely sad all rolled into one.
(It’s also the only record I’ve ever bought too. )

Yes, I was there, such an amazing day. I was right down the front, couldn't cope with being that squashed now 😆 and yes Queen definitely stole the show, best concert I've ever been to and I've been to a lot.

I was just too young at the time. I watched it in the audio-visual room at the posh private school where my dad worked - it was their school fete day.

I did go to the Mandela concert a few years later; that was brilliant. I still have the t-shirt.
