Nice punchy thread title there!

This is intended as a thread for anyone who wants to get into good habits of something (anything!) and wants some support and motivation. I’m hoping it’ll help me for the same reason.

I’ve searched for a thread like this and car put my finger on one (there must be one) hence starting this.

How are you doing with the thing(s) you’re trying to do more (or less) of? Today has been a good day for me so far but I’m not sure I can keep it up all evening. Hoping that connecting with other people will help!

My new year's resolution was one exercise class a week and at least one session with my yoga app. I've managed the classes but not the app. Win some, lose some.

LeGinge · 26/01/2024 14:27

My new years resolution was to do more living; less sitting around the house, watching telly.

I've got something booked for every single month of the year except October so far (October is our anniversary month, so I left that month for DP to arrange).

I've got sports tickets, gigs, B&B weekends, spa weekend, theatre trips and a planetarium show in November that I'm particularly looking forward to.

So yes, I've doing what I said I'd do and I can't remember the last time I had so much to look forward to.

Pickingmyselfup · 26/01/2024 14:43

I've lost half a kg and I've been in the gym 3 days a week, running 3 and upping it to 4.

I haven't stuck to dry January but I have cut down.

My organisational skills every morning have been a bit shoddy recently but I've clocked into work before my starting time every day in January.

Could be better but could be worse.

frozendaisy · 26/01/2024 14:44

Big push for another declutter which is happening including garden and the sentimental members of the family. It's a marathon not a sprint

More movement.

Slowly removing all UP foods we can.

Fruit salad at all times in fridge.

frozendaisy · 26/01/2024 14:45

Bizarrely I really want a lazy day.
A day I can lie in late and drink coffee and read in bed. With no guilt I should be doing something else

But it's not happening.

ColdButSunny · 26/01/2024 14:49

I've stuck to my diet and lost 9lb since the beginning of Jan Smile

ChristmasTreeMagic · 26/01/2024 14:51

I've stuck to my diet & lost 12lbs since Christmas! Lots more to go but feeling optimistic. I'm looking forward to a slimmer spring / summer ☀️

Ulysees · 26/01/2024 14:54

What is it you're aiming to do OP?
Mine is toning up and losing weight. I've kept up with the gym and love walking.
Also eating healthier.

Decluttering too as well as pp.

Good luck everyone 🤞

LittleGreenFroggie · 26/01/2024 14:59

I decided to do 'dry January' and have stuck to it! Also decided to spend less in general, so far so good! I've less than 2 weeks to payday and I've still got enough to see me through. I'm normally struggling by now!

Just cutting out the alcohol has helped massively with the finances. Between a couple of bottles of wine (shared with DP) and a couple of pints in the pub a week, I'm probably saving £30pw!

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 26/01/2024 15:23

I wanted to change one thing a month which was supposed to be stop drinking, I didn’t drink much anyway so it’s not been hard so I decided to increase my gym visits from 3 to 4 times a week which is going well.

February is stop vaping.
March is stopping sugar.

I can’t remember the rest but one change at a time works for me.

BurbageBrook · 26/01/2024 15:29

I'm trying to eat less processed food. Had chia pudding earlier instead of white bread toast and raisins and nuts rather than a chocolate bar! Pretty proud! However, I have been drinking red wine a little more regularly than I planned to this month!

KalamazooZoo · 26/01/2024 15:39

I have retired.

Mine was to do more voluntary work and to start weight training , so far I have done two sessions cooking at a lunch club and have just signed up to help at a charity who arrange baby supplies for people in need. The lunch club only runs over winter months as it’s a warm spaces project, I am looking to become a trustee in a few months so am looking round charities and organisations. I have done this before when working. My DS has lent me his smallest weights but I honestly think I need some even smaller starter weights.

Username123343 · 26/01/2024 15:45

Well done everyone!

@Ulysees - I have made changes to my diet to improve my health and these slipped over the Xmas period so I’m wanting to find some motivation to get back to the better habits.

I had an idea about starting a thread as I thought I would probably be more motivated if I were connected to others with similar aims.

Ulysees · 26/01/2024 15:54

@Username123343 well done. Yes a thread is a good help. I used to start them to motivate each other to do housework when dcs were little. We'd go off for 15 minutes and come back and say what we'd achieved 😄

@BurbageBrook what's chia pudding? Sounds very healthy.

@KalamazooZoo sounds like a very fulfilling life. Dh is semi retired and I only work pt.

Username123343 · 26/01/2024 16:49

@Ulysees - great idea for powering through housework! I’ve recently downloaded the TOMM app and that’s been a game changer for me.

Ulysees · 26/01/2024 17:06

@Username123343 it's more decluttering now. Too much stuff.

OhSmitty · 26/01/2024 17:29

Since the clocks changed at the end of Oct, I vowed to clean up my unhealthy habits and be a new me by the the time the clocks changed again.

I had a gym membership but only went to intermittent classes lots of excuses why I couldnt go, I vowed to go at least 3 times a week for a full workout. I've been hitting it 4-5 times without fail and LOVE it.

I quit habitually drinking. I've had a drink at Xmas and on holiday at Twixmas and that's it. Feel much better for it.

I've increased my steps, getting out for a long walk and fresh air. A big change from being glued to the sofa.

I'm eating better, whole foods and not snacking. Won't buy chocolate and biscuits anymore, far too tempting. Eating when hungry, not when the clock tells me to.

I've revamped my skincare routine and enjoy the 5 mins of pampering before bed. I also have a bottle of water with me wherever I go.

2 months to go, I'm waking up fresher, my skin is looking good, I've lost 1.5st. All the aches and pains have gone.

Honestly I'm really glad I started before NY, every other year I've failed my resolutions by now but starting in Nov gave me a first goal of feeling great for Xmas, now I'm in full swing of good routines for 2024.

OhSmitty · 26/01/2024 17:31

Although now I look like a scruffy bag lady with old baggy clothes, I need to buy a new wardrobe but hesitant as I plan to lose more weight. Thankfully it's winter and I can hide under big coats.

GreySantaRabbit · 26/01/2024 17:34

Dry January, plus continuing my diet and gym 3 times a week so my target weight is in spitting distance! I'm probably not going to go back to drinking as my sleep is so much improved, my skin is clear and I have no bags or black circles under my eyes, and absolutely no bloating or puffiness. I feel tons better and have bags of energy! 😁

Username123343 · 26/01/2024 21:16

This is all very positive, thank you everyone for contributing.

I’ve managed to get through almost a whole day eating the things I know are ok for me. I have a rash that’s been keeping me awake at night so I’m hoping if I can keep this up, that’ll die back down and I can get an undisturbed night.

Keep going everyone!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/01/2024 21:47

I’ve done dry January. I’ve stuck to my diet and been running and walking a fair bit, but annoyingly I have only lost 3lbs in Jan so far.

I’ve been clearing one bag a week to charity- I go into the loft and quickly go through bags and boxes and fill a bag. I then take it to work on my office day (I work at the head office of a charity). It’s really working well- no time to get overwhelmed,

Username123343 · 27/01/2024 16:40

Well I’ve screwed mine today, but tomorrow is another day. We go again, as the footballing types say!

How’s everyone else got on today?

OP posts:
EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 27/01/2024 16:57

I’ve kept up going to the gym 3 times a week, but one extra incentive is that I’ve booked fortnightly sessions with a personal trainer and it would be pretty obvious if I’d been slacking!

My mil spent 3 hours arguing with us because we don't watch TV every night and prefer actually doing things. She thinks we are sheltered and uncultured because tv is so educational and entertaining lmao
