Nice punchy thread title there!

This is intended as a thread for anyone who wants to get into good habits of something (anything!) and wants some support and motivation. I’m hoping it’ll help me for the same reason.

I’ve searched for a thread like this and car put my finger on one (there must be one) hence starting this.

How are you doing with the thing(s) you’re trying to do more (or less) of? Today has been a good day for me so far but I’m not sure I can keep it up all evening. Hoping that connecting with other people will help!

Not brilliant today as have gcs staying and we went to a diner. So food wise not good. I haven't exercised but been running around after them.

Well done everyone who's keeping going.

Work all day tomorrow.

furnaceyay · 27/01/2024 21:21

Every year I do New Year type resolutions- and I often keep them. Though they are more like plans eg. move home. But this year not really. I’m too knackered with it all.

I just want to relax more. Enjoy more. Stay in bed more. Do what I fancy more.

I always seem so busy doing everyday maintenance “stuff” and striving to do this or that.

Like @frozendaisy I haven’t managed it today though!

But from tomorrow onwards …. 💭 😻

Mind you I’m 63. I might feel differently if I was 43 or even 53.

Good for you!

My mil spent 3 hours arguing with us because we don't watch TV every night and prefer actually doing things. She thinks we are sheltered and uncultured because tv is so educational and entertaining lmao

That’s such a funny attitude and thing to argue with someone about 😂 TV is great as a diversion from life, but it’s not a replacement for actual life! Good on you and DP.

Good luck to everyone for today. I’ve started as I mean to go on, so fingers crossed for a better day than I managed yesterday.

Mine is take salad or soup to work for lunch everyday and increase fruit. Using a habit tracker app has helped and I'm doing okay with it.

dudsville · 28/01/2024 09:04

I was surprised i didn't maintain my goals. DJ and weaning myself back of sugary sweets after December as well as getting back to the 16:8 usually isn't such a hardship but I've really struggled. I started exercising in December and this is all I can point to to account for my struggle with these. I have maintained going to the gym - I aimed for a minimum of twice weekly but have been going 4 times a week since i started. I am mainly doing this for my health though of course i hope for weight loss and at the moment that can't happen with the continued sweets. I'm hoping that over the coming months with the gym I'll get used to it and then be able to tackle "DJ", the sweets and 16:8.

Lovemusic82 · 28/01/2024 09:14

To exercise more and to exercise every day. I kind of got a bit lazy before Christmas, I walk a lot, often up to 5 miles a day but recently my walks have got shorter or I decide not to walk at all. Last week I walked every day and walked further, hoping I can stick to it and maybe add swimming in there too (twice a week). Also trying to cut back on sugar but this isn’t going as well 😬.

hottchocolate · 28/01/2024 09:15

I'm finding it really hard to stick at the healthy eating and exercise

How’s everyone gone on today? I am doing well so far but I have the evening to get through yet!

Well done.
Been to the gym again. I'm really enjoying it.
Not eaten too badly. Seafood salad for lunch. Homemade curry and healthy chocolate pudding. Dh made them. But then brought homemade bread and cheese and a glass of wine 😋

Username123343 · 29/01/2024 21:48

@Ulysees - well done, yum and thank you in equal measure! Xx

Dh makes it. Very easy apparently?

Username123343 · 30/01/2024 18:48

Well I haven’t managed to stick to my plans today. Wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Anyone else like to check in?

I have some goals for myself but January has been a complete write off. I’m not sure why but I just get through the whole day and it hasn’t occurred to me to do/work towards any of them?

  1. spend 30 mins a day at least reading
  2. drink 2l water
  3. eat fruit or veg with every meal
  4. do my skincare routine (beyond just washing my face in the shower) every night
  5. side hustle at least £5 a day

I don’t think these should be too tricky to stick to I just need to give myself a kick up the bum.

TheChosenTwo · 30/01/2024 18:55

I set myself target to do one long swim and 2 spin classes a week. Anything else extra is a bonus. There was one week I didn’t make it to the second spin class but never mind.
Also reading more and less scrolling in the evenings. Screen report has been consistently down and I’m making good progress through my pile of unread books - so overall I’m pretty happy with that.

Ikeawarrior · 30/01/2024 19:02

I set myself some ambitious (for me!) goals for this year:
Lost 4 stone
Paint my whole house and get it decorated to a standard I like
Grow out my grey hair
Read 50 books

So far I've lost half a stone
Painted the entire downstairs of my house
Got and built new furniture for downstairs
Avoided colouring my hair (this has been ridiculously hard!)
Read 2 books (too busy with the painting and flat pack!)

I love being single and actually having time to devote to what I want

Username123343 · 30/01/2024 19:29

These are all great! Thanks for sharing ❤️

I wanted to drink less, eat plant based and exercise more. Ive stuck to them all! This is most unlike me so I'm proud 😃

MySonCyrilBaconSniffer · 30/01/2024 19:35

My challenge is my PMDD which drags me back to square one every month. Without my PMDD I'm working out, meditating, getting out in nature, sewing, seeing people, hopeful. With PMDD I find everything hopeless and cba and don't care anymore.

Ulysees · 11/02/2024 12:53

How's everyone getting on? I'm still going to the gym. Been this morning.

Good on you!

I missed a couple of gym sessions for illness but back in this morning. I’m starting to see my arm muscles Grin

Ulysees · 11/02/2024 15:37

@EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel I've started seeing more definition. Bingo wings are tighter 😂

It makes all the torture worth it!

Ulysees · 11/02/2024 15:47

@EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel I'm enjoying going. I was keen to go this morning. It's a down to earth gym full of blokes. Hardly any women go. Dh comes with me but I'd be ok going alone.
One bloke that goes looks like Superman. Hair, physique....everything!
