Thread 12 - TalkLair: “I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.”

(Previous thread 11).

The days are gradually growing longer, but the worst of the winter weather is not yet behind us. In the TalkLair, we remain hunkered down keeping cosy and warm. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

My age is not prime and won’t be for a few years.

Gonners · 09/02/2024 20:11

@Britinme - My age is currently a prime number, but after the end of this month it will not be.

And I immediately know you're a prime number of months older than me. Sorry all, I know this is really rather tragic.

artant · 09/02/2024 20:27

Have just looked at the breakfast redistribution thread. Bizarre!

I don’t think I’d generally fancy curry for breakfast (although it would depend on the curry and I’d definitely be happy with a dosa for breakfast) but then I'm not much of a breakfast eater (my typical breakfast these days is a flat white with oat milk and a banana).

VictorianBigot · 09/02/2024 21:59

Mog on the Tyne is the most purrrrrfect name for a cat cafe ever 😻 in fact, it’s the cat’s Wearskers!

VictorianBigot · 09/02/2024 22:01

Such lucky kitTees 🥰

MouseMinge · 10/02/2024 01:26

I rarely eat official breakfast because I'm not one for early eating and as I don't have to get to work I can wait to eat. That said as breakfast is just breaking your fast, whatever meal I eat first is my breakfast no matter the time. Today it was strawberry jelly and custard and if that mad woman had tried to give it to her son I'd have brought my spoon down on her knuckles!

I had Yorkshire pudding with gravy this evening. It was part of a ready meal, filled with chicken, little cubes of roast potatoes and a pig in blanket. I had a bit of sausage, most of the potatoes and nearly all the biggish Yorkshire pudding. I felt almost normal. Francis got to feast on meat which was my plan when I bought it. I craved Yorkshire pudding and my little fat boy fat got a big ol' treat!

artant · 10/02/2024 02:25

Now I really want Yorkshire pudding!

It sounds like you’re managing to eat so much better now, Mouse; it must be such a relief.

Britinme · 10/02/2024 02:33

I am the world's worst Yorkshire pudding cook, which is a bit disgraceful for a Yorkshirewoman to admit. My late MIL made beautiful ones in a big roasting tin and we used to eat them with gravy as a starter while the roast beef was resting, waiting to be carved. If there was any left over we ate it for dessert with golden syrup.

Gonners · 10/02/2024 06:16

One of my aunts used to do that - Nottinghamshire, but only about 5km from the Yorkshire border. None of the others did, so it must have come from her husband's family. I used to pass on the starter and save mine for pudding (never "dessert!"), also with golden syrup.

MouseMinge · 10/02/2024 10:04

I haven't made my own Yorkshire pudding for years but as a teenager I was the maker of choice because I had it spot on with making the perfect batter. I don't think I'd remember how I got it so right but I think part of it was letting the batter rest.

Breakfast news. This morning I have had flying saucers. None of the vital food groups!

artant · 10/02/2024 10:42

I am also bad at making Yorkshire puddings and thankful that shop bought ones are an option.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 10/02/2024 11:49

That's good Mouse. I hope you recuperate well, and get strong for the next phase. I love the GIF of the mouse in the bed!

Another Yorkshire woman who can't make Yorkshire Puddings here. My mum's were perfect, and best of all eaten with onion gravy, before the meat, naturally. We never had them for pudding.

artant · 10/02/2024 13:47

I have the excuse of being a Londoner for my poor Yorkshire pudding skills but my mum made good ones despite also lacking a Yorkshire heritage. They were always served with the rest of the meal though not before and/or after.

MouseMinge · 10/02/2024 18:17

Today I went mad and decided I would have some McDonald's fries (small, I'm not a complete idiot) because I love their skinny saltiness. Anyway, I decided to eat in while listening to a podcast (You Must Remember This) but I was v, v stupid and forgot that even when eating much softer food I need a drink so things went a bit wrong ... details withheld. Anyway, I left McDonald's taking the fries with me, stopped in at Tesco to get a drink and then ate the rest of them sitting on the steps of a church. It was so good. I'm going to buy some mini microwave Waitrose fries and go to the restaurant at the end of the pier who do the best fries known to man.

I can't tell you how good it's feeling to be eating in a somewhat/nearly normal way. I have to be careful but it makes me feel less cancer freak. I'm making the most of it now because radiotherapy will make this impossible while it's going on as my oesophagus will get inflammed. Still, that's to come and I'll deal with it then with lots of delicious soup and jelly and ice-cream and all that sort of thing. For now I feast on fries and Yorkshire puddings!

MouseMinge · 10/02/2024 18:20

I forgot to add to the prime number chat yesterday. In April I will reach a prime number birthday.

SinnerBoy · 10/02/2024 18:29

Britinme · Yesterday 18:57

My age is currently a prime number, but after the end of this month it will not be.

You were born in 1950. I had to change that from knots to mph.

duc748 · 10/02/2024 18:41

It's my prime birthday today! 😀

SinnerBoy · 10/02/2024 18:53

I shall call thee "Amazon."

MouseMinge · 10/02/2024 20:29

Happy birthday, @duc748 !

Gonners · 10/02/2024 21:32

I wish you a Happy Prime Birthday, @duc748 ... and somewhere between several and many more of them.

Britinme · 10/02/2024 22:47

@SinnerBoy -absolutely right! Well done that man.

artant · 11/02/2024 01:13

Happy birthday (a bit late) @duc748 - hope you had a great day!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 11/02/2024 01:34

Drat - missed it. Happy yesterbirthday, Duc!

Kucinghitam · 11/02/2024 05:46

Oh! Happy belated birthday @duc748!

(And happy belated Year of the Dragon).

Thanks, guys! My DS is here from London, and we've had a lovely weekend, and I've been encouraging him to take his gf to see Hamilton!
