Rubbish skips etc costs.

Just looking for ideas for rubbish removal.

Money is not great and I don't have time to wait till its better although I'm kind of ok . But still can't pay extra money because they are branded or something like that.

So skip hire . I think the things I have would full half a 4yrd skip. So a 2 yrd would definitely be ok . But I don't think 2 yrd are very common. On top of the skip hire I would have to pay for a permit which is 70.00.

Also skip if I do wait and load that will cost 190.00.

I have looked at hippo bags and skip bags. It seems to say it would cost me 250-300 to get the bag taken away once full . But it was really confusing me so I could be wrong.

I know there is a van thing where people collect the rubbish and stick it in a van
But in very uncomfortable with then as they will say 100 for example. Get most of it on the van and then bump it to 150. Which I can't do .

I don't drive , don't have a car , I don't have anyone to help or drive so I can't get to a tip.

I'm.not sure if I will get it less than 190 to be honest? I'm in London zone 3

I've used a man with a van removal several times and they have always stuck with the initial quote. I didn't pay cash, I did a bank transfer so no doorstep blagging by then.

Send photos of all the rubbish, ask for a price. Pay after removal.

I work in an environmental company and we use man with a van contractors for small loads all the time. Make sure they show you their waste carriers license and send pics of the rubbish so that you get an accurate cost . We have a nationwide company that we use so if its allowed then DM me for their details.

Have you checked whether your local council offer bulky waste collections? Sometimes they can be very reasonable if you can bag or bundle things up.

Pre can have 5 items collected for free every 2 months, if you need more it's £5 per large item/bag/bundle

That's no good to me. I have looked into it.

Oh and I wish our council did that. They dont seem to do much at all in my council.

Can you gradually put it out with household waste? It doesn't sound like a huge amount, from what you've described, so could you spread it out over the next month or so?

Talipesmum · 24/01/2024 11:59

We used a hippo bag once and it was great, but I can’t remember any useful details - I’m pretty sure they are a lot cheaper than skips though. Good luck!

Goawaytina · 24/01/2024 11:59

Sounds like you've done your research on prices and options so not sure what other info you'll get here 🤷‍♀️

OP was recently caught fly tipping and fined. This would be too risky, especially on a limited budget.

I would check if a Hippo bag or the like would still require a permit as won't need to be on the road for the same amount of time.

I just spoke to my ex . And i sent him the size details. He says it should be ok. There's a voucher code as well and it worked out to 205 . Slightly more than the wait and load skip but it takes the preasure of me and I can get it all done over the weekend

I was only sure about the 190 skip and confused and the hippo bag.

Find a house clearance man, they will take rubbish/junk away usually and sounds like it would be much easier than a skip in your situation

Do you mean you can’t drive or you just don’t have a car?

There's a family run business round my way who advertise junk removal on Facebook and I'm sure someone in your area will too
I usually message him with what's needing picked up and he gives me a quote. I put it all in my garden and the boys come round on the day arranged to collect.
He has set prices on large/bulky items and charges £2.75 per black bag

SushiSheep · 24/01/2024 12:14

Does your ex drive and have a car @Shamefullhouse ?
Can he not help, since you’re putting so much effort into making a better home life for his (? Sorry if I’ve got that wrong) children.
Honestly, if I lived nearer to you, I would take your stuff to the recycling centre for you.

The ex is a whole different/complicated matter. I'm not going there . I can ask him general little things like I just did or ask him what wall plugs I need stuff like that . Nut not this sort of thing .

I paid £140 to a local charity rehabilitating individuals who have had issues let's say who run a bulk waste service. Cheaper than a commercial service and they are doing good work. The two guys who came were both ex addicts but they work with a range of people in several locations. Worth seeing if anyone is doing similar near you

lola8345 · 24/01/2024 12:26

Have you looked at bulk collection from your council? mine does large items, but also bags. You can have 8 items collected, some items are multiple things so 8 rubbish bags is 1 item.

It's £20.

Nolongera · 24/01/2024 12:33

The standard builders skips you see are 8 cubic years, a 2 yard skip will hardly hold anything.

Loads of legitimate small waste companies round here with a decent size van who work out cheaper and less bother than a skip and fully licensed, I would look on Facebook for recommendations.

Alot of people are saying similar. My council does not do that . Reading theses really show how shit my council is

anyway I have sorted a hippo bag and collection. I quickly booked it as I was sending myself in circles.

Which council is this though? Most of them run it as it saves them a fortune in clearing up fly tipping.
