Why is my dd11 hiding monkey nuts in her bedroom

She's 11 and apart from slight moodiness we have no real issues.
I was looking for something in her room today and found a big packet half gone stuffed somewhere.

Any ideas?

she has a secret hamster/pet she's hiding and feeding nuts?

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 22/01/2024 17:30

She's hungry and you don't have biscuits
She likes the thrill of eating something without asking for it
She's doing science experiments

Feeding squirrels/birds/other wildlife?

Or just really likes monkey nuts? They're quite satisfying to crush.

TheDandyLion · 22/01/2024 17:30

Feeding squirrels in the park?

Footprintsinthesand · 22/01/2024 17:31

I think "hiding" might be a strong word. What trouble can she get into with monkey nuts?

She's 11. She's entitled to some privacy now.

Scottishdreams1991 · 22/01/2024 17:38

She's isnt in trouble. She gets a small amount of pocket money and spends it in tesco after school. She always tells me everything she buys. Just wondering why she hid them. She does have a hamster

This is the sort of random thing I find in my DD's room all the time. It's normal at this age once they are able to have a bit of freedom. If it was my DD it would be because they're a cheap snack to buy with pocket money, and she wanted to feed squirrels on the school field or something like that. I don't see why it would be an issue.

MamaBearsss · 22/01/2024 17:42

How do we know?! Ask her.

Cas112 · 22/01/2024 17:42

Well it's not like they are an illegal drug OP just ask her😂

Mamette · 22/01/2024 17:44

Did she go trick or treating at Halloween? These were the only things left over because they’re horrible? Then they got forgotten about.

CharlotteMakepeace · 22/01/2024 17:47

I've seen a few Facebook reels/Instagram posts of young women/girls putting a monkey nut in their mouth and opening their bedroom window and a squirrel appears and tentatively gets closer to the hole and then takes the nut from her mouth and eats it.

Could it be some kind of tik tok crap like that?

TeaGinandFags · 22/01/2024 18:00

Feeding the hamster on the sly?

I wouldn't sweat it. I had an 11 yr old who stole tha cat's catnip. She was furious. (The cat, that is.) I phoned the vet and the GP who both laughed at me.

Who knows what goes on in a child's mind?

Why is my dd11 hiding monkey nuts in her bedroom
a222 · 22/01/2024 18:13

she is quite obviously crushing them up and snorting them to get high.

lol, what trouble could she really be getting in with a bag of nuts?? is there a no-nuts policy at her school and this is maybe translating into hiding them at home?

Scottishdreams1991 · 22/01/2024 18:17

I'm being silly. I dont want her to know i was in her room so won't ask her. It's hard to explain but when i saw them it kinda hit me she's getting older and i won't always know everything. As i said im being pretty pathetic and my mum found much worse in my room 😆

Why would it be anything other than a reasonably healthy, albeit messy, snack?

Riapia · 22/01/2024 18:20

Monkey nuts are not nuts.
Neither are Brazil nuts or coconuts.

I've got some news for you about Mars bars.

LizzieBananas · 22/01/2024 18:47

Is it the hiding that stumps you or the choice of snacks?

Scottishdreams1991 · 22/01/2024 19:12

100% the hiding.
